¹Abram meninggalkan Mesir dan pergi ke arah utara, menuju ke bagian selatan Kanaan dengan istrinya serta segala miliknya, dan Lot ikut juga.

¹And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.

²Abram kaya raya; ia memiliki domba, kambing, sapi, juga perak dan emas.

²And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

³Maka pergilah ia dari satu tempat ke tempat yang lain, menuju ke Betel. Ia sampai ke daerah di antara Betel dan Ai, di tempat keramat di mana ia dahulu berkemah

³And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai,

⁴dan mendirikan mezbah. Di situ ia menyembah TUHAN.

⁴unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of Jehovah.

⁵Lot juga mempunyai keluarga dan hamba-hamba serta domba, kambing dan sapi.

⁵And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

⁶Karena itu tanah di situ tidak cukup padang rumputnya untuk didiami mereka berdua, sebab ternak mereka terlalu banyak.

⁶And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

⁷Lalu terjadilah pertengkaran antara para gembala Abram dan para gembala Lot. (Pada masa itu orang Kanaan dan orang Feris masih mendiami tanah itu).

⁷And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land.

⁸Abram berkata kepada Lot, "Kita ini bersaudara, tidak baik jika orang-orangmu dan orang-orangku saling bertengkar.

⁸And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen; for we are brethren.

⁹Sebab itu sebaiknya kita berpisah. Pilihlah bagian mana dari tanah ini yang kausukai. Jika engkau pergi ke arah ini, saya akan pergi ke arah yang lain."

⁹Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If [thou wilt take] the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if [thou take] the right hand, then I will go to the left.

¹⁰Lot memandang ke sekitarnya dan dilihatnya bahwa seluruh Lembah Yordan, sampai ke kota Zoar banyak airnya, seperti Taman TUHAN atau seperti tanah Mesir. (Begitulah keadaannya sebelum TUHAN memusnahkan kota-kota Sodom dan Gomora.)

¹⁰And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar.

¹¹Akhirnya Lot memilih seluruh Lembah Yordan itu, lalu berangkat ke timur. Demikianlah kedua orang itu berpisah.

¹¹So Lot chose him all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

¹²Abram tetap tinggal di tanah Kanaan, sedangkan Lot berkemah di kota-kota di lembah sampai dekat Sodom.

¹²Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

¹³Kota Sodom itu didiami oleh orang-orang yang sangat jahat dan berdosa terhadap TUHAN.

¹³Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly.

¹⁴Setelah Lot pergi, TUHAN berkata kepada Abram, "Dari tempat engkau berdiri itu, pandanglah baik-baik ke segala arah;

¹⁴And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward:

¹⁵Aku akan memberikan kepadamu dan kepada keturunanmu seluruh tanah yang engkau lihat itu supaya menjadi milikmu selama-lamanya.

¹⁵for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

¹⁶Aku akan memberikan kepadamu keturunan yang sangat banyak, sehingga tak seorang pun sanggup menghitung mereka. Sebagaimana orang tak dapat menghitung debu di tanah, demikian juga keturunanmu tidak akan dapat dihitung.

¹⁶And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: So that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.

¹⁷Sekarang, jelajahilah seluruh tanah ini, sebab Aku akan memberikannya kepadamu."

¹⁷Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it.

¹⁸Setelah itu Abram memindahkan perkemahannya lalu menetap di dekat pohon-pohon keramat tempat ibadat di Mamre dekat Hebron, dan di situ ia mendirikan mezbah bagi TUHAN.

¹⁸And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto Jehovah.
