¹Yusuf merebahkan dirinya pada ayahnya sambil menangis dan mencium wajahnya.

¹And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

²Lalu Yusuf memerintahkan tukang pengawet mayat untuk merempah-rempahi jenazah Yakub.

²And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

³Pekerjaan itu memakan waktu empat puluh hari, yaitu waktu yang biasanya diperlukan untuk merempah-rempahi mayat. Orang Mesir berkabung bagi Yakub, tujuh puluh hari lamanya.

³And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of embalming: and the Egyptians wept for him three-score and ten days.

⁴Setelah habis masa berkabung, berkatalah Yusuf kepada pegawai-pegawai raja, "Sampaikanlah pesan ini kepada raja,

⁴And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found favor in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

⁵'Waktu ayah hamba sudah dekat ajalnya, disuruhnya hamba berjanji kepadanya, bahwa hamba akan menguburkan dia di dalam kuburan yang telah disiapkannya di tanah Kanaan. Sebab itu, izinkanlah hamba pergi untuk menguburkan ayah hamba. Setelah itu hamba akan kembali.'"

⁵My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

⁶Lalu berkatalah raja, "Pergilah menguburkan ayahmu seperti yang telah kaujanjikan kepadanya."

⁶And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

⁷Lalu pergilah Yusuf untuk menguburkan ayahnya. Semua pegawai raja, para tua-tua istana dan semua pembesar Mesir, pergi bersama-sama dengan Yusuf.

⁷And Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

⁸Keluarganya, saudara-saudaranya, dan sanak saudaranya yang lain pergi juga. Hanya anak-anak kecil dan ternak mereka ditinggalkan di daerah Gosyen.

⁸and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

⁹Pasukan yang berkereta dan berkuda juga ikut, sehingga iring-iringan itu panjang sekali.

⁹And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

¹⁰Ketika mereka sampai di tempat orang memukul gandum di Goren-Haatad, di sebelah timur Sungai Yordan, mereka meratap dengan sedih dan suara nyaring. Yusuf mengadakan upacara berkabung, tujuh hari lamanya.

¹⁰And they came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

¹¹Ketika penduduk Kanaan melihat perkabungan di Goren-Haatad itu, berkatalah mereka, "Alangkah pilunya upacara perkabungan orang Mesir itu!" Itulah sebabnya tempat itu dinamakan Abel-Mizraim.

¹¹And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.

¹²Demikianlah anak-anak Yakub melakukan apa yang dipesankan Yakub kepada mereka.

¹²And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

¹³Mereka mengangkut jenazahnya ke Kanaan dan menguburkannya dalam gua Makhpela, di sebelah timur Mamre, di ladang yang telah dibeli oleh Abraham dari Efron orang Het itu, untuk dijadikan pekuburan.

¹³for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, for a possession of a burying-place, of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

¹⁴Setelah Yusuf menguburkan ayahnya, ia kembali ke Mesir bersama-sama dengan saudara-saudaranya dan semua orang yang mengikuti dia untuk penguburan ayahnya itu.

¹⁴And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

¹⁵Setelah ayah mereka meninggal, abang-abang Yusuf berkata, "Bagaimana seandainya Yusuf dendam dan mau membalas kejahatan kita dahulu?"

¹⁵And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will fully requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

¹⁶Sebab itu mereka mengirim pesan ini kepada Yusuf, "Sebelum ayah kita meninggal,

¹⁶And they sent a message unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

¹⁷ia menyuruh kami mengatakan kepadamu begini, 'Ampunilah kesalahan yang dahulu dilakukan abang-abangmu terhadapmu.' Jadi, sebagai hamba-hamba Allah yang dipuja ayah kita, kami mohon, ampunilah kesalahan yang telah kami lakukan." Yusuf menangis pada waktu menerima pesan itu.

¹⁷So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the transgression of thy brethren, and their sin, for that they did unto thee evil. And now, we pray thee, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

¹⁸Lalu saudara-saudaranya itu sendiri datang dan sujud di hadapannya serta berkata, "Kami ini hambamu."

¹⁸And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we are thy servants.

¹⁹Tetapi Yusuf berkata kepada mereka, "Jangan takut; sebab saya tidak bisa bertindak sebagai Allah.

¹⁹And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

²⁰Kalian telah bermupakat untuk berbuat jahat kepada saya, tetapi Allah mengubah kejahatan itu menjadi kebaikan, supaya dengan yang terjadi dahulu itu banyak orang yang hidup sekarang dapat diselamatkan.

²⁰And as for you, ye meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

²¹Jangan khawatir. Saya akan mencukupi kebutuhan kalian dan anak-anak kalian." Demikianlah ia menentramkan hati mereka dengan kata-kata yang ramah, sehingga mereka terharu.

²¹Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

²²Yusuf tetap tinggal di Mesir dengan sanak saudaranya; ia hidup sampai berumur seratus sepuluh tahun.

²²And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.

²³Ia masih sempat melihat anak cucu Efraim. Ia sempat juga mengasuh anak-anak Makhir, yaitu cucu Manasye, sebagai anaknya sendiri.

²³And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were born upon Joseph's knees.

²⁴Katanya kepada saudara-saudaranya, "Ajal saya sudah dekat, tetapi Allah pasti akan memelihara kalian dan memimpin kalian keluar dari negeri ini, ke negeri yang telah dijanjikan-Nya dengan sumpah kepada Abraham, Ishak dan Yakub."

²⁴And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die; but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

²⁵Lalu Yusuf menyuruh semua sanak saudaranya bersumpah, katanya, "Berjanjilah kepada saya, bahwa apabila Allah memimpin kalian ke negeri itu, kalian akan membawa juga jenazah saya."

²⁵And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

²⁶Kemudian meninggallah Yusuf di Mesir pada usia seratus sepuluh tahun. Mereka merempah-rempahi jenazahnya dan menaruhnya dalam peti mati.

²⁶So Joseph died, being a hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
