¹Celakalah kota ini yang penuh dusta dan pembunuhan; penuh barang rampasan atau jarahan.

¹Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.

²Dengarlah lecutan cambuk dan derak-derik roda, derap lari kuda dan guncangan kereta.

²The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of wheels, and prancing horses, and bounding chariots,

³Pasukan berkuda menyerang penuh semangat, pedang bercahaya dan tombak berkilat. Orang yang mati tidak terhitung, mayat mereka bertimbun-timbun, membuat orang-orang tersandung.

³the horseman mounting, and the flashing sword, and the glittering spear, and a multitude of slain, and a great heap of corpses, and there is no end of the bodies; they stumble upon their bodies;-

⁴Niniwe pelacur itu sedang diberi hukuman. Kecantikannya sungguh mempesonakan. Banyak bangsa telah disihirnya, dan dibujuk dengan rayuannya.

⁴because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well-favored harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

⁵TUHAN Yang Mahakuasa berkata, "Hai Niniwe, engkau akan Kusiksa! Kainmu Kubuka di hadapan bangsa-bangsa, sehingga aibmu dilihat oleh mereka.

⁵Behold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will uncover thy skirts upon thy face; and I will show the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

⁶Kuperlakukan engkau sebagai barang menjijikkan, Kulempari engkau dengan kotoran; Kujadikan engkau bahan tontonan.

⁶And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazing-stock.

⁷Yang melihatmu akan menjauhkan diri dan berkata, 'Niniwe tinggal reruntuhan belaka! Siapa turut berduka dengan dia? Tak ada yang mau memberi hiburan kepadanya.'"

⁷And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

⁸Hai Niniwe, masakan engkau lebih baik daripada Tebe, ibukota Mesir? Tebe juga letaknya di pinggir sungai yang melindunginya sebagai tembok. Ya, Sungai Nil itulah benteng pertahanannya.

⁸Art thou better than No-amon, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about her; whose rampart was the sea, [and] her wall was of the sea?

⁹Tebe memerintah atas Sudan dan Mesir, dan kuasanya tak ada batasnya; Libia dan Put adalah sekutunya.

⁹Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

¹⁰Meskipun begitu, penduduk Tebe ditawan dan diangkut ke pembuangan. Di semua persimpangan, anak-anaknya dipukuli sampai mati. Para pembesarnya dibelenggu dengan rantai dan dibagi-bagi di antara para penawannya.

¹⁰Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity; her young children also were dashed in pieces at the head of all the streets; and they cast lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

¹¹Hai Niniwe, engkau pun akan pingsan karena mabuk. Engkau pun akan berusaha supaya luput dari musuh-musuhmu.

¹¹Thou also shalt be drunken; thou shalt be hid; thou also shalt seek a stronghold because of the enemy.

¹²Segala bentengmu akan seperti pohon ara yang penuh buah-buah yang masak. Jika pohon itu digoyang, buah-buahnya akan jatuh ke dalam mulut orang yang ingin memakannya.

¹²All thy fortresses shall be [like] fig-trees with the first-ripe figs: if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.

¹³Prajurit-prajuritmu lemah seperti perempuan dan negerimu sama sekali tak berdaya menghadapi musuh. Api akan menghanguskan palang-palang pintu gerbangmu.

¹³Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women; the gates of thy land are set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire hath devoured thy bars.

¹⁴Timbalah saja air untuk persediaan selama engkau dikepung, dan perkuatlah benteng-bentengmu! Injak-injaklah lumpur untuk membuat batu-batu bata, dan siapkanlah cetakan-cetakannya!

¹⁴Draw thee water for the siege; strengthen thy fortresses; go into the clay, and tread the mortar; make strong the brickkiln.

¹⁵Apapun yang kauperbuat, akan sia-sia saja, sebab engkau pasti akan habis terbakar atau tewas dalam pertempuran. Engkau akan lenyap seperti hasil ladang dilahap belalang. Engkau telah berkembang biak seperti belalang!

¹⁵There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off; it shall devour thee like the canker-worm: make thyself many as the canker-worm; make thyself many as the locust.

¹⁶Pedagang-pedagangmu melebihi jumlah bintang-bintang di langit! Tetapi sekarang mereka lenyap, seperti belalang yang mengembangkan sayapnya lalu terbang menghilang.

¹⁶Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the canker-worm ravageth, and fleeth away.

¹⁷Para pembesar dan pejabatmu seperti kawanan belalang yang berlindung di tembok-tembok pada waktu dingin. Tetapi setelah matahari terbit, mereka segera terbang menghilang; tak seorang pun tahu ke mana mereka pergi.

¹⁷Thy princes are as the locusts, and thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which encamp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.

¹⁸Hai raja negeri Asyur! Para gubernurmu sudah mati, dan para bupatimu tertidur untuk selama-lamanya. Rakyatmu tercerai-berai di pegunungan, dan tak seorang pun dapat membawa mereka pulang kembali.

¹⁸Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria; thy nobles are at rest; thy people are scattered upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.

¹⁹Cederamu tak dapat diobati, dan luka-lukamu tak dapat disembuhkan. Semua orang yang mendengar berita kehancuranmu bertepuk tangan kegirangan. Sebab semua orang telah menderita karena kejahatanmu yang tak berakhir itu.

¹⁹There is no assuaging of thy hurt: thy wound is grievous: all that hear the report of thee clap their hands over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
