¹Jótam var tuttugu og fimm ára gamall, þá er hann varð konungur, og sextán ár ríkti hann í Jerúsalem. Móðir hans hét Jerúsa Sadóksdóttir.

¹Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.

²Hann gjörði það, sem rétt var í augum Drottins, með öllu svo sem gjört hafði Ússía faðir hans. Þó fór hann eigi inn í musteri Drottins. En lýðurinn aðhafðist enn óhæfu.

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his father Uzziah had done: however he didn’t enter into Yahweh’s temple. The people still did corruptly.

³Hann reisti efra hliðið á musteri Drottins, og af Ófelmúr byggði hann mikið.

³He built the upper gate of the house of Yahweh, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.

⁴Þá reisti hann og borgir í Júdafjöllum, og í skógunum reisti hann hallir og turna.

⁴Moreover he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

⁵Hann átti og í ófriði við konunga Ammóníta og vann sigur á þeim. Guldu Ammónítar honum það ár hundrað talentur silfurs, tíu þúsund kór hveitis og tíu þúsund kór byggs. Færðu Ammónítar honum þetta einnig annað og þriðja árið.

⁵He fought also with the king of the children of Ammon, and prevailed against them. ⁶Varð Jótam þannig æ voldugri, því að hann gekk veg sinn fyrir augliti Drottins, Guðs síns.

⁶So Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before Yahweh his God.
