¹Þér eruð börn Drottins, Guðs yðar. Þér skuluð eigi rista skinnsprettur á yður né raka yður krúnu eftir framliðinn mann.

¹You are the children of Yahweh your God: you shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

²Því að þú ert Drottni Guði þínum helgaður lýður, og þig hefir Drottinn kjörið til að vera eignarlýður hans umfram allar þjóðir, sem á jörðinni eru.

²For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God, and Yahweh has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

³Þú skalt ekki eta neitt viðbjóðslegt.

³You shall not eat any abominable thing.

⁴Þessi eru þau ferfætt dýr, sem þér megið eta: naut, sauðfé og geitfé,

⁴These are the animals which you may eat: the ox, the sheep, and the goat,

⁵hirtir, skógargeitur, dáhirtir, steingeitur, fjallageitur, antílópur og gemsur.

⁵the hart, and the gazelle, and the roebuck, and the wild goat, and the ibex, and the antelope, and the chamois.

⁶Öll ferfætt dýr, sem hafa klaufir, og þær alklofnar, og jórtra, megið þér eta.

⁶Every animal that parts the hoof, and has the hoof cloven in two and chews the cud, among the animals, that may you eat.

⁷Af þeim sem jórtra, og af þeim sem alklofnar klaufir hafa, megið þér þó ekki þessi eta: Úlfaldann, hérann og stökkhérann, því að þeir jórtra að sönnu, en hafa eigi klaufir; þeir séu yður óhreinir, _

⁷Nevertheless these you shall not eat of them that chew the cud, or of those who have the hoof cloven: the camel, and the hare, and the rabbit; because they chew the cud but don’t part the hoof, they are unclean to you.

⁸og svínið, því að það hefir að sönnu klaufir, en jórtrar ekki; það sé yður óhreint. Kjöt þeirra skuluð þér ekki eta, og hræ þeirra skuluð þér ekki snerta.

⁸The pig, because it has a split hoof but doesn’t chew the cud, is unclean to you: of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.

⁹Af lagardýrunum megið þér eta þessi: Öll þau, sem hafa sundugga og hreistur, megið þér eta,

⁹These you may eat of all that are in the waters: whatever has fins and scales may you eat;

¹⁰en öll þau, sem ekki hafa sundugga og hreistur, megið þér ekki eta; þau séu yður óhrein.

¹⁰and whatever doesn’t have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean to you.

¹¹Alla hreina fugla megið þér eta,

¹¹Of all clean birds you may eat.

¹²en þessa megið þér ekki eta: örninn, skegggamminn og gamminn,

¹²But these are they of which you shall not eat: the eagle, and the vulture, and the osprey,

¹³gleðuna og fálkakynið, _

¹³and the red kite, and the falcon, and the kite after its kind,

¹⁴allt hrafnakynið, _

¹⁴and every raven after its kind,

¹⁵strútinn, svöluna, mávinn og haukakynið, _

¹⁵and the ostrich, and the owl, and the seagull, and the hawk after its kind,

¹⁶ugluna, náttugluna og hornugluna,

¹⁶the little owl, and the great owl, and the horned owl,

¹⁷pelíkanann, hrægamminn og súluna,

¹⁷and the pelican, and the vulture, and the cormorant,

¹⁸storkinn og lóukynið, herfuglinn og leðurblökuna.

¹⁸and the stork, and the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat.

¹⁹Öll fleyg skriðkvikindi séu yður óhrein; þau má eigi eta.

¹⁹All winged creeping things are unclean to you: they shall not be eaten.

²⁰Öll hrein flugdýr megið þér eta.

²⁰Of all clean birds you may eat.

²¹Þér skuluð ekki eta neitt sjálfdautt. Útlendum manni, sem er innan borgarhliða þinna, mátt þú gefa það til að eta, eða selja það aðkomnum manni, því að þú ert Drottni Guði þínum helgaður lýður. Þú skalt ekki sjóða kið í mjólk móður sinnar.

²¹You shall not eat of anything that dies of itself: you may give it to the foreigner living among you who is within your gates, that he may eat it; or you may sell it to a foreigner: for you are a holy people to Yahweh your God. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.

²²Þú skalt tíunda vandlega allan ávöxt af útsæði þínu, allt það er vex á mörkinni, á ári hverju,

²²You shall surely tithe all the increase of your seed, that which comes forth from the field year by year.

²³og þú skalt eta frammi fyrir Drottni Guði þínum á þeim stað, sem hann velur til þess að láta nafn sitt búa þar, tíundina af korni þínu, aldinlegi þínum og olíu þinni og frumburði nautgripa þinna og sauðfénaðar, svo að þú lærir að óttast Drottin Guð þinn alla daga.

²³You shall eat before Yahweh your God, in the place which he shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock; that you may learn to fear Yahweh your God always.

²⁴Og sé vegurinn of langur fyrir þig og getir þú eigi borið það, af því að staðurinn, sem Drottinn Guð þinn velur til þess að láta nafn sitt búa þar, er langt í burtu frá þér, þegar Drottinn Guð þinn hefir blessað þig,

²⁴If the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry it, because the place is too far from you, which Yahweh your God shall choose, to set his name there, when Yahweh your God shall bless you;

²⁵þá skalt þú koma því í peninga, taka silfrið með þér og geyma þess vel og fara til þess staðar, er Drottinn Guð þinn velur.

²⁵then you shall turn it into money, and bind up the money in your hand, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose:

²⁶Og fyrir silfrið skalt þú kaupa hvað sem þig lystir, nautgripi, sauðfé, vín, áfengan drykk eða hvað annað, sem þig langar í, og þú skalt neyta þess þar frammi fyrir Drottni Guði þínum og gleðja þig ásamt fjölskyldu þinni.

²⁶and you shall bestow the money for whatever your soul desires, for cattle, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household.

²⁷Og levítana, sem eru innan borgarhliða þinna, skalt þú ekki setja hjá, því að þeir hafa ekki hlut né óðal með þér.

²⁷The Levite who is within your gates, you shall not forsake him; for he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

²⁸Þriðja hvert ár skalt þú færa út alla tíund af ávexti þínum það árið og leggja hana niður innan borgarhliða þinna,svo að levítar, því að þeir hafa ekki hlut né óðal með þér, útlendingar, munaðarleysingjar og ekkjur þær, sem eru innan borgarhliða þinna, megi koma og eta sig mett, til þess að Drottinn Guð þinn blessi þig í öllu því, er þú tekur þér fyrir hendur að gjöra.

²⁸At the end of every three years you shall bring forth all the tithe of your increase in the same year, and shall lay it up within your gates:

²⁹svo að levítar, því að þeir hafa ekki hlut né óðal með þér, útlendingar, munaðarleysingjar og ekkjur þær, sem eru innan borgarhliða þinna, megi koma og eta sig mett, til þess að Drottinn Guð þinn blessi þig í öllu því, er þú tekur þér fyrir hendur að gjöra.

²⁹and the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the foreigner living among you, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that Yahweh your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
