¹Þetta ár _ í upphafi ríkisstjórnar Sedekía konungs í Júda, fjórða árið, í fimmta mánuðinum _ sagði Hananja spámaður Assúrsson frá Gíbeon við mig í musteri Drottins í viðurvist prestanna og alls lýðsins:

¹It happened the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of Yahweh, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

²,,Svo segir Drottinn allsherjar, Ísraels Guð: Ég brýt sundur ok Babelkonungs!

²Thus speaks Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

³Áður en tvö ár eru liðin, flyt ég aftur á þennan stað öll áhöldin úr musteri Drottins, þau er Nebúkadnesar Babelkonungur tók á þessum stað og flutti til Babýlon.

³Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of Yahweh’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried to Babylon:

⁴Jekonja Jójakímsson, Júdakonung, og alla hina herleiddu úr Júda, þá er komnir eru til Babýlon, flyt ég og aftur á þennan stað _ segir Drottinn _ því að ég brýt sundur ok Babelkonungs!``

⁴and I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon, says Yahweh; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

⁵Þá talaði Jeremía spámaður til Hananja spámanns í viðurvist prestanna og alls lýðsins, sem stóð í musteri Drottins,

⁵Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of Yahweh,

⁶og Jeremía spámaður mælti: ,,Verði svo! Drottinn gjöri það! Drottinn láti orð þín, er þú hefir spáð, rætast, svo að hann flytji aftur frá Babýlon á þennan stað áhöldin úr musteri Drottins og alla hina herleiddu!

⁶even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: Yahweh do so; Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahweh’s house, and all them of the captivity, from Babylon to this place.

⁷En heyr þessi orð, sem ég kunngjöri þér og öllum lýðnum:

⁷Nevertheless hear you now this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people:

⁸Þeir spámenn, sem komið hafa fram á undan mér og á undan þér frá alda öðli, þeir spáðu voldugum löndum og stórum konungsríkjum ófriði, óhamingju og drepsótt.

⁸The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.

⁹En sá spámaður, sem spáir heill, _ ef orð hans rætast, þá þekkist á því sá spámaður, er Drottinn hefir sannarlega sent.``

⁹The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet shall happen, then shall the prophet be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.

¹⁰Þá tók Hananja spámaður okið af hálsi Jeremía spámanns og braut það sundur.

¹⁰Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and broke it.

¹¹Síðan mælti Hananja í viðurvist alls lýðsins á þessa leið: ,,Svo segir Drottinn: Eins skal ég sundurbrjóta ok Nebúkadnesars Babelkonungs áður tvö ár eru liðin af hálsi allra þjóða!`` En Jeremía spámaður fór leiðar sinnar.

¹¹Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus says Yahweh: Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within two full years from off the neck of all the nations. The prophet Jeremiah went his way.

¹²En orð Drottins kom til Jeremía, eftir að Hananja spámaður hafði sundurbrotið okið af hálsi Jeremía spámanns:

¹²Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

¹³Far og seg við Hananja: Svo segir Drottinn: Tré-ok hefir þú sundurbrotið, en ég vil í þess stað gjöra járn-ok!

¹³Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus says Yahweh: You have broken the bars of wood; but you have made in their place bars of iron.

¹⁴Því að svo segir Drottinn allsherjar, Ísraels Guð: Járnok legg ég á háls allra þessara þjóða, til þess að þær verði þegnskyldar Nebúkadnesar Babelkonungi og þjóni honum, já, jafnvel dýr merkurinnar gef ég honum.

¹⁴For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the animals of the field also.

¹⁵Þá sagði Jeremía spámaður við Hananja spámann: ,,Heyr þú, Hananja! Drottinn hefir ekki sent þig, og þó hefir þú ginnt lýð þennan til að reiða sig á lygar!

¹⁵Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah: Yahweh has not sent you; but you make this people to trust in a lie.

¹⁶Fyrir því segir Drottinn svo: Sjá, ég kippi þér burt af jörðinni. Á þessu ári skalt þú deyja, því að þú hefir prédikað fráhvarf frá Drottni.``Og Hananja spámaður dó þetta ár, í sjöunda mánuðinum.

¹⁶Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth: this year you shall die, because you have spoken rebellion against Yahweh.

¹⁷Og Hananja spámaður dó þetta ár, í sjöunda mánuðinum.

¹⁷So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.
