1Hefði það ekki verið Drottinn sem var með oss, _ skal Ísrael segja _
1If it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, let Israel now say,
2hefði það ekki verið Drottinn sem var með oss, þegar menn risu í móti oss,
2if it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, when men rose up against us;
3þá hefðu þeir gleypt oss lifandi, þegar reiði þeirra bálaðist upp í móti oss.
3then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;
4Þá hefðu vötnin streymt yfir oss, elfur gengið yfir oss,
4then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul;
5þá hefðu gengið yfir oss hin beljandi vötn.
5then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.
6Lofaður sé Drottinn, er ekki gaf oss tönnum þeirra að bráð.
6Blessed be Yahweh, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7Sál vor slapp burt eins og fugl úr snöru fuglarans. Brast snaran, burt sluppum vér.Hjálp vor er í nafni Drottins, skapara himins og jarðar.
7Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
