¹ユダの王ヨシャパテは、つつがなくエルサレムの自分の家に帰った。

¹Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

²そのとき、先見者ハナニの子エヒウが出てヨシャパテを迎えて言った、「あなたは悪人を助け、主を憎む者を愛してよいのですか。それゆえ怒りが主の前から出て、あなたの上に臨みます。

²Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate Yahweh? Because of this, wrath is on you from before Yahweh.

³しかしあなたには、なお良い事もあります。あなたはアシラ像を国の中から除き、心を傾けて神を求められました」。

³Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asheroth out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God.”

⁴ヨシャパテはエルサレムに住んでいたが、また出て、ベエルシバからエフライムの山地まで民の中を巡り、先祖たちの神、主に彼らを導き返した。

⁴Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem: and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

⁵彼はまたユダの国中、すべての堅固な町ごとに裁判人を置いた。

⁵He set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,

⁶そして裁判人たちに言った、「あなたがたは自分のする事に気をつけなさい。あなたがたは人のために裁判するのではなく、主のためにするのです。あなたがたが裁判する時には、主はあなたがたと共におられます。

⁶and said to the judges, “Consider what you do: for you don’t judge for man, but for Yahweh; and he is with you in the judgment.

⁷だからあなたがたは主を恐れ、慎んで行いなさい。われわれの神、主には不義がなく、人をかたより見ることなく、まいないを取ることもないからです」。

⁷Now therefore let the fear of Yahweh be on you. Take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Yahweh our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”

⁸ヨシャパテはまたレビびと、祭司、およびイスラエルの氏族の長たちを選んでエルサレムに置き、主のために裁判を行い、争議の解決に当らせた。彼らはエルサレムに居住した。

⁸Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed Levites and priests, and of the heads of the fathers’ households of Israel, for the judgment of Yahweh, and for controversies. They returned to Jerusalem.

⁹ヨシャパテは彼らに命じて言った、「あなたがたは主を恐れ、真実と真心とをもって行わなければならない。

⁹He commanded them, saying, “Thus you shall do in the fear of Yahweh, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

¹⁰すべてその町々に住んでいるあなたがたの兄弟たちから、血を流した事または律法と戒め、定めとおきてなどの事について訴えてきたならば、彼らをさとして、主の前に罪を犯させず、怒りがあなたがたと、あなたがたの兄弟たちに臨まないようにしなさい。そのようにすれば、あなたがたは罪を犯すことがないでしょう。見よ、祭司長アマリヤは、あなたがたの上にいて、主の事をすべてつかさどり、イシマエルの子、ユダの家のつかさゼバデヤは王の事をすべてつかさどり、またレビびとはあなたがたの前にあって役人となります。雄々しく行動しなさい。主は正直な人と共におられます」。

¹⁰Whenever any controversy shall come to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, you shall warn them, that they not be guilty towards Yahweh, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers. Do this, and you shall not be guilty.

¹¹見よ、祭司長アマリヤは、あなたがたの上にいて、主の事をすべてつかさどり、イシマエルの子、ユダの家のつかさゼバデヤは王の事をすべてつかさどり、またレビびとはあなたがたの前にあって役人となります。雄々しく行動しなさい。主は正直な人と共におられます」。

¹¹Behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Yahweh; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and may Yahweh be with the good.”
