¹こういうわけで、わたしたちは、このような多くの証人に雲のように囲まれているのであるから、いっさいの重荷と、からみつく罪とをかなぐり捨てて、わたしたちの参加すべき競走を、耐え忍んで走りぬこうではないか。

¹Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

²信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを仰ぎ見つつ、走ろうではないか。彼は、自分の前におかれている喜びのゆえに、恥をもいとわないで十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に座するに至ったのである。

²looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

³あなたがたは、弱り果てて意気そそうしないために、罪人らのこのような反抗を耐え忍んだかたのことを、思いみるべきである。

³For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.

⁴あなたがたは、罪と取り組んで戦う時、まだ血を流すほどの抵抗をしたことがない。

⁴You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin;

⁵また子たちに対するように、あなたがたに語られたこの勧めの言葉を忘れている、「わたしの子よ、主の訓練を軽んじてはいけない。主に責められるとき、弱り果ててはならない。

⁵and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;

⁶主は愛する者を訓練し、受けいれるすべての子を、むち打たれるのである」。

⁶For whom the Lord loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.” Proverbs 3:11-12

⁷あなたがたは訓練として耐え忍びなさい。神はあなたがたを、子として取り扱っておられるのである。いったい、父に訓練されない子があるだろうか。

⁷It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?

⁸だれでも受ける訓練が、あなたがたに与えられないとすれば、それこそ、あなたがたは私生子であって、ほんとうの子ではない。

⁸But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not children.

⁹その上、肉親の父はわたしたちを訓練するのに、なお彼をうやまうとすれば、なおさら、わたしたちは、たましいの父に服従して、真に生きるべきではないか。

⁹Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?

¹⁰肉親の父は、しばらくの間、自分の考えに従って訓練を与えるが、たましいの父は、わたしたちの益のため、そのきよさにあずからせるために、そうされるのである。

¹⁰For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

¹¹すべての訓練は、当座は、喜ばしいものとは思われず、むしろ悲しいものと思われる。しかし後になれば、それによって鍛えられる者に、平安な義の実を結ばせるようになる。

¹¹All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby.

¹²それだから、あなたがたのなえた手と、弱くなっているひざとを、まっすぐにしなさい。

¹²Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, Isaiah 35:3

¹³また、足のなえている者が踏みはずすことなく、むしろいやされるように、あなたがたの足のために、まっすぐな道をつくりなさい。

¹³and make straight paths for your feet, Proverbs 4:26 so that which is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

¹⁴すべての人と相和し、また、自らきよくなるように努めなさい。きよくならなければ、だれも主を見ることはできない。

¹⁴Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,

¹⁵気をつけて、神の恵みからもれることがないように、また、苦い根がはえ出て、あなたがたを悩まし、それによって多くの人が汚されることのないようにしなさい。

¹⁵looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it;

¹⁶また、一杯の食のために長子の権利を売ったエサウのように、不品行な俗悪な者にならないようにしなさい。

¹⁶lest there be any sexually immoral person, or profane person, like Esau, who sold his birthright for one meal.

¹⁷あなたがたの知っているように、彼はその後、祝福を受け継ごうと願ったけれども、捨てられてしまい、涙を流してそれを求めたが、悔改めの機会を得なかったのである。

¹⁷For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.

¹⁸あなたがたが近づいているのは、手で触れることができ、火が燃え、黒雲や暗やみやあらしにつつまれ、

¹⁸For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,

¹⁹また、ラッパの響や、聞いた者たちがそれ以上、耳にしたくないと願ったような言葉がひびいてきた山ではない。

¹⁹the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,

²⁰そこでは、彼らは、「けものであっても、山に触たら、石で打ち殺されてしまえ」という命令の言葉に、耐えることができなかったのである。

²⁰for they could not stand that which was commanded, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned TR adds “or shot with an arrow” [see Exodus 19:12-13] ”; Exodus 19:12-13

²¹その光景が恐ろしかったのでモーセさえも、「わたしは恐ろしさのあまり、おののいている」と言ったほどである。

²¹and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.” Deuteronomy 9:19

²²しかしあなたがたが近づいているのは、シオンの山、生ける神の都、天にあるエルサレム、無数の天使の祝会、

²²But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,

²³天に登録されている長子たちの教会、万民の審判者なる神、全うされた義人の霊、

²³to the general assembly and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,

²⁴新しい契約の仲保者イエス、ならびに、アベルの血よりも力強く語るそそがれた血である。

²⁴to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, Jeremiah 31:31 and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.

²⁵あなたがたは、語っておられるかたを拒むことがないように、注意しなさい。もし地上で御旨を告げた者を拒んだ人々が、罰をのがれることができなかったなら、天から告げ示すかたを退けるわたしたちは、なおさらそうなるのではないか。

²⁵See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,

²⁶あの時には、御声が地を震わせた。しかし今は、約束して言われた、「わたしはもう一度、地ばかりでなく天をも震わそう」。

²⁶whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.” Haggai 2:6

²⁷この「もう一度」という言葉は、震われないものが残るために、震われるものが、造られたものとして取り除かれることを示している。

²⁷This phrase, “Yet once more,” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.

²⁸このように、わたしたちは震われない国を受けているのだから、感謝をしようではないか。そして感謝しつつ、恐れかしこみ、神に喜ばれるように、仕えていこう。わたしたちの神は、実に、焼きつくす火である。

²⁸Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let us have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,

²⁹わたしたちの神は、実に、焼きつくす火である。

²⁹for our God is a consuming fire. Deuteronomy 4:24
