¹The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

²アモンの子、ユダの王ヨシヤの時、すなわちその治世の十三年に、主の言葉がエレミヤに臨んだ。

³その言葉はまたヨシヤの子、ユダの王エホヤキムの時にも臨んで、ヨシヤの子、ユダの王ゼデキヤの十一年の終り、すなわちその年の五月にエルサレムの民が捕え移された時にまで及んだ。

³It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

⁴主の言葉がわたしに臨んで言う、

⁴Now the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁵「わたしはあなたをまだ母の胎につくらないさきに、あなたを知り、あなたがまだ生れないさきに、あなたを聖別し、あなたを立てて万国の預言者とした」。

⁵“Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you. Before you came forth out of the womb, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

⁶その時わたしは言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、わたしはただ若者にすぎず、どのように語ってよいか知りません」。

⁶Then I said, “Ah, Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” Yahweh! Behold, I don’t know how to speak; for I am a child.”

⁷しかし主はわたしに言われた、「あなたはただ若者にすぎないと言ってはならない。だれにでも、すべてわたしがつかわす人へ行き、あなたに命じることをみな語らなければならない。

⁷But Yahweh said to me, “Don’t say, ‘I am a child;’ for to whoever I shall send you, you shall go, and whatever I shall command you, you shall speak.

⁸彼らを恐れてはならない、わたしがあなたと共にいて、あなたを救うからである」と主は仰せられる。

⁸Don’t be afraid because of them; for I am with you to deliver you,” says Yahweh.

⁹そして主はみ手を伸べて、わたしの口につけ、主はわたしに言われた、「見よ、わたしの言葉をあなたの口に入れた。

⁹Then Yahweh put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.

¹⁰見よ、わたしはきょう、あなたを万民の上と、万国の上に立て、あなたに、あるいは抜き、あるいはこわし、あるいは滅ぼし、あるいは倒し、あるいは建て、あるいは植えさせる」。

¹⁰Behold, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.”

¹¹主の言葉がまたわたしに臨んで言う、「エレミヤよ、あなたは何を見るか」。わたしは答えた、「あめんどうの枝を見ます」。

¹¹Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, “Jeremiah, what do you see?” I said, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”

¹²主はわたしに言われた、「あなたの見たとおりだ。わたしは自分の言葉を行おうとして見張っているのだ」。

¹²Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well; for I watch over my word to perform it.”

¹³主の言葉がふたたびわたしに臨んで言う、「あなたは何を見るか」。わたしは答えた、「煮え立っているなべを見ます。北からこちらに向かっています」。

¹³The word of Yahweh came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a boiling caldron; and it is tipping away from the north.”

¹⁴主はわたしに言われた、「災が北から起って、この地に住むすべての者の上に臨む」。

¹⁴Then Yahweh said to me, “Out of the north evil will break out on all the inhabitants of the land.

¹⁵主は言われる、「見よ、わたしは北の国々のすべての民を呼ぶ。彼らは来て、エルサレムの門の入口と、周囲のすべての城壁、およびユダのすべての町々に向かって、おのおのその座を設ける。

¹⁵For, behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says Yahweh; “and they shall come, and they shall each set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.

¹⁶わたしは、彼らがわたしを捨てて、すべての悪事を行ったゆえに、わたしのさばきを彼らに告げる。彼らは他の神々に香をたき、自分の手で作った物を拝したのである。

¹⁶I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.

¹⁷しかしあなたは腰に帯して立ち、わたしが命じるすべての事を彼らに告げよ。彼らを恐れてはならない。さもないと、わたしは彼らの前であなたをあわてさせる。

¹⁷“You therefore put your belt on your waist, arise, and speak to them all that I command you. Don’t be dismayed at them, lest I dismay you before them.

¹⁸For, behold, I have made you this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.

¹⁹彼らはあなたと戦うが、あなたに勝つことはできない。わたしがあなたと共にいて、あなたを救うからである」と主は言われる。

¹⁹They will fight against you; but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you,” says Yahweh, “to deliver you.”
