²Now isn’t Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens you were? Behold, he winnows barley tonight in the threshing floor.

³それであなたは身を洗って油をぬり、晴れ着をまとって打ち場に下って行きなさい。ただ、あなたはその人が飲み食いを終るまで、その人に知られてはなりません。

³Therefore wash yourself, anoint yourself, get dressed, and go down to the threshing floor, but don’t make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

⁴そしてその人が寝る時、その寝る場所を見定め、はいって行って、その足の所をまくって、そこに寝なさい。彼はあなたのすべきことを知らせるでしょう」。

⁴It shall be, when he lies down, that you shall mark the place where he shall lie, and you shall go in, and uncover his feet, and lay down; then he will tell you what you shall do.”

⁵ルツはしゅうとめに言った、「あなたのおっしゃることを皆いたしましょう」。

⁵She said to her, “All that you say I will do.”

⁶こうして彼女は打ち場に下り、すべてしゅうとめが命じたとおりにした。

⁶She went down to the threshing floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law told her.

⁷ボアズは飲み食いして、心をたのしませたあとで、麦を積んである場所のかたわらへ行って寝た。そこで彼女はひそかに行き、ボアズの足の所をまくって、そこに寝た。

⁷When Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. She came softly, uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

⁸夜中になって、その人は驚き、起きかえって見ると、ひとりの女が足のところに寝ていたので、

⁸It happened at midnight, that the man was startled and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.

⁹「あなたはだれですか」と言うと、彼女は答えた、「わたしはあなたのはしためルツです。あなたのすそで、はしためをおおってください。あなたは最も近い親戚です」。

⁹He said, “Who are you?” She answered, “I am Ruth your handmaid. Therefore spread your skirt over your handmaid; for you are a near kinsman.”

¹⁰ボアズは言った、「娘よ、どうぞ、主があなたを祝福されるように。あなたは貧富にかかわらず若い人に従い行くことはせず、あなたが最後に示したこの親切は、さきに示した親切にまさっています。

¹⁰He said, “Blessed are you by Yahweh, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as you didn’t follow young men, whether poor or rich.

¹¹それで、娘よ、あなたは恐れるにおよびません。あなたが求めることは皆、あなたのためにいたしましょう。わたしの町の人々は皆、あなたがりっぱな女であることを知っているからです。

¹¹Now, my daughter, don’t be afraid; I will do to you all that you say; for all the city of my people does know that you are a worthy woman.

¹²たしかにわたしは近い親戚ではありますが、わたしよりも、もっと近い親戚があります。

¹²Now it is true that I am a near kinsman; however there is a kinsman nearer than I.

¹³今夜はここにとどまりなさい。朝になって、もしその人が、あなたのために親戚の義務をつくすならば、よろしい、その人にさせなさい。しかし主は生きておられます。その人が、あなたのために親戚の義務をつくすことを好まないならば、わたしはあなたのために親戚の義務をつくしましょう。朝までここにおやすみなさい」。

¹³Stay this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform for you the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman’s part. But if he will not do the part of a kinsman for you, then will I do the part of a kinsman for you, as Yahweh lives. Lie down until the morning.”

¹⁴ルツは朝まで彼の足のところに寝たが、だれかれの見分け難いころに起きあがった。それはボアズが「この女の打ち場にきたことが人に知られてはならない」と言ったからである。

¹⁴She lay at his feet until the morning. She rose up before one could discern another. For he said, “Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.”

¹⁵そしてボアズは言った、「あなたの着る外套を持ってきて、それを広げなさい」。彼女がそれを広げると、ボアズは大麦六オメルをはかって彼女に負わせた。彼女は町に帰り、

¹⁵He said, “Bring the mantle that is on you, and hold it.” She held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; and he went into the city.

¹⁶しゅうとめのところへ行くと、しゅうとめは言った、「娘よ、どうでしたか」。そこでルツはその人が彼女にしたことをことごとく告げて、

¹⁶When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “How did it go, my daughter?” She told her all that the man had done to her.

¹⁷言った、「あのかたはわたしに向かって、から手で、しゅうとめのところへ帰ってはならないと言って、この大麦六オメルをわたしにくださいました」。しゅうとめは言った、「娘よ、この事がどうなるかわかるまでお待ちなさい。あの人は、きょう、その事を決定しなければ落ち着かないでしょう」。

¹⁷She said, “He gave me these six measures of barley; for he said, ‘Don’t go empty to your mother-in-law.’”

¹⁸しゅうとめは言った、「娘よ、この事がどうなるかわかるまでお待ちなさい。あの人は、きょう、その事を決定しなければ落ち着かないでしょう」。

¹⁸Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest, until he has finished the thing this day.”
