1Lmuqeddem ameqqran isteqsa Stifan yenna-yas : Ț-țideț wayen akka i d-nnan ?
1And the high priest said, Are these things then so?
2And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,
3Yenna-yas : Ffeɣ si tmurt-ik, si tmurt n imawlan-ik, tṛuḥeḍ ɣer tmurt ara k-d-ssekneɣ.
3and said to him, Go out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and come into the land which I will shew thee.
4Iffeɣ ihi si tmurt n iqaldiyen, iṛuḥ ad izdeɣ di temdint n Haran. Mi gemmut baba-s, Sidi Ṛebbi yewwi-t-id ɣer tmurt-agi i deg tzedɣem tura.
4Then going out of the land of the Chaldeans he dwelt in Charran, and thence, after his father died, he removed him into this land in which *ye* now dwell.
5Sidi Ṛebbi ur s-yefki ara di tmurt-agi ula d azal n terdast i deg ara yesres aḍar-is ; meɛna iwɛed-as a s-yefk tamurt-agi i nețța d dderya n dderya-s ɣas akken imiren mazal ur yesɛi ara dderya, Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-yas :
5And he did not give him an inheritance in it, not even what his foot could stand on; and promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he had no child.
6Dderya n dderya-k aț-țezdeɣ deg yiwet n tmurt tabeṛṛanit, dinna a ten-erren d aklan, ad sɛeddin fell-asen lḥif azal n ṛebɛa meyya iseggasen.
6And God spoke thus: His seed shall be a sojourner in a strange land, and they shall enslave them and evil entreat [them] four hundred years;
7Lameɛna Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-d : Ad uɣalen a d-ffɣen si tmurt-nni, ad iyi-ɛebden deg wemkan-agi ; ma d lǧens-nni i ten-yerran d aklan, d nekk ara ten-iḥasben.
7and the nation to which they shall be in bondage will *I* judge, said God; and after these things they shall come forth and serve me in this place.
8Dɣa Sidi Ṛebbi yefka-d i Sidna Ibṛahim leɛqed yeɛnan ṭṭhaṛa. S wakka, mi d-yesɛa mmi-s Isḥaq, Sidna Ibṛahim iṭeḥheṛ-as deg wass wis tmanya n tlalit-is. Isḥaq daɣen yexdem akken i mmi-s yeɛqub ; ula d Yeɛqub iṭeḥheṛ i tnac-nni warraw-is yellan d lejdud-nneɣ.
8And he gave to him [the] covenant of circumcision; and thus he begat Isaac and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.
9Ihi arraw-agi n yeɛqub usmen ɣef gma-tsen Yusef, kkren zenzen-t ɣer tmurt n Maṣer anda yuɣal d akli.
9And the patriarchs, envying Joseph, sold him away into Egypt. And God was with him,
10Lameɛna Sidi Ṛebbi yella yid-es, ițsellik-it si tegnatin n ccedda ; issers-ed fell-as ṛṛeḥma yerna-yas-d leɛqel s wayes ara yeɛziz ɣer Ferɛun agellid n tmurt n Maṣeṛ. Ferɛun isbedd-it d lḥakem ɣef tmurt-is akk-d wexxam-is meṛṛa.
10and delivered him out of all his tribulations, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he appointed him chief over Egypt and all his house.
11Yeɣli-d laẓ ɣef tmurt n Maṣeṛ akk ț-țmurt n Kenɛan, d lweqt n cedda tameqqrant ; lejdud-nneɣ ur ufin ara ayen ara ččen.
11But a famine came upon all the land of Egypt and Canaan, and great distress, and our fathers found no food.
12Mi gesla Yeɛqub belli llan yirden di tmurt n Maṣer, iceggeɛ ɣer dinna tikkelt tamezwarut, arraw-is yellan d lejdud-nneɣ.
12But Jacob, having heard of there being corn in Egypt, sent out our fathers first;
13Mi uɣalen tikkelt tis snat, Yusef isbeggen-ed iman-is ɣer watmaten-is, ɛeqlen-t d nețța. Yuɣal Ferɛun yeẓra laṣel n Yusef ansi-t.
13and the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren, and the family of Joseph became known to Pharaoh.
14Yusef iceggeɛ a d-awin baba-s Yeɛqub akk-d wat wexxam-is meṛṛa i gellan di xemsa usebɛin yid-sen.
14And Joseph sent and called down to him his father Jacob and all [his] kindred, seventy-five souls.
15Yeɛqub iṣubb ɣer tmurt n Maṣer ikemmel dinna ussan-is armi yemmut, am nețța am lejdud-nneɣ.
15And Jacob went down into Egypt and died, he and our fathers,
16Wwin-d iɣsan-nsen ɣer taddart n Sicem, meḍlen-ten deg uẓekka i guɣ Sidna Ibṛahim s yedrimen ɣef warraw n Hamur n taddart n Sicem.
16and were carried over to Sychem and placed in the sepulchre which Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the [father] of Sychem.
17Mi d-yewweḍ lweqt i deg ara yedṛu wayen i gewɛed Sidi Ṛebbi i Sidna Ibṛahim s limin, agdud-nneɣ yufa-t-id lḥal innerna s waṭas di tmurt n Maṣer ;
17But as the time of promise drew near which God had promised to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt,
18imiren ikker-ed ugellid nniḍen ur nessin ara Yusef.
18until another king over Egypt arose who did not know Joseph.
19Agellid-nni iḥqeṛ lɣaci-nneɣ, yețqehhiṛ lejdud nneɣ, yeṣṣaweḍ armi i gefka lameṛ ad ǧǧen arraw-nsen i cceṛ akken kan ara d-lalen, iwakken ur țidiren ara.
19*He* dealt subtilly with our race, and evil entreated the fathers, casting out their infants that they might not live.
20Di lweqt-nni i d-ilul Sidna Musa ; icbeḥ yerna eɛziz ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi. Yețțuṛebba deg wexxam n imawlan-is tlata wagguren s tuffra ;
20In which time Moses was born, and was exceedingly lovely, who was nourished three months in the house of his father.
21uɣalen rran-t zdaxel n tqecwalt, serrḥen-as deg wasif ; d yelli-s n Ferɛun i t-id-ijemɛen, tṛebba-t-id am mmi-s.
21And when he was cast out, the daughter of Pharaoh took him up, and brought him up for herself [to be] for a son.
22Ikker-ed ger imaṣriyen, yelmed akk tamusni-nsen ifazen. Yuɣal d argaz amusnaw, izewṛen ama deg yimeslayen ama di lecɣal.
22And Moses was instructed in all [the] wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds.
23Mi geṣṣaweḍ ṛebɛin iseggasen di leɛmeṛ-is, yemmekta-d atmaten-is at Isṛail, iṛuḥ ad iẓer acu n lḥala i deg țɛicin.
23And when a period of forty years was fulfilled to him, it came into his heart to look upon his brethren, the sons of Israel;
24Yiwen wass iwala s wallen-is yiwen umaṣri ikkat yiwen seg wat Isṛail ; ikker a t-iḥudd, yerra-as-d țțar ; yewwet amaṣri-nni, yenɣa-t.
24and seeing a certain one wronged, he defended [him], and avenged him that was being oppressed, smiting the Egyptian.
25Yenwa ad fehmen watmaten-is belli s ufus-is ara ten-isellek Sidi Ṛebbi ; lameɛna nutni ur fhimen ara.
25For he thought that his brethren would understand that God by his hand was giving them deliverance. But they understood not.
26Azekka-nni iwala sin yergazen n wat Isṛail țnaɣen wway gar-asen, iger iman-is, yeɛṛed a ten-ifru, yenna-yasen : Eɛni mačči d atmaten i tellam ? Acimi i tețțnaɣem wway gar-awen ?
26And on the morrow he shewed himself to them as they were contending, and compelled them to peace, saying, *Ye* are brethren, why do ye wrong one another?
27Lameɛna win akken iḍelmen wayeḍ idemmer Musa yenna-yas : Anwa i k-yerran d aqeṛṛuy neɣ d lḥakem fell-aɣ ?
27But he that was wronging his neighbour thrust him away, saying, Who established thee ruler and judge over us?
28Eɛni tebɣiḍ a yi-tenɣeḍ akken tenɣiḍ iḍelli amaṣri-nni ?
28Dost *thou* wish to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian yesterday?
29Ɣef ddemma n yimeslayen-agi Sidna Musa yerwel, iṛuḥ ad izdeɣ di tmurt n Madyan. Dinna i gesɛa sin n warrac.
29And Moses fled at this saying, and became a sojourner in the land of Madiam, where he begat two sons.
30Mi ɛeddan ṛebɛin n iseggasen, idheṛ-as-ed yiwen n lmelk deg yiwen uḥeǧǧaǧu n tmes iceɛlen deg inijel, mi gella deg unezṛuf n wedrar n Sinay.
30And when forty years were fulfilled, an angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sinai, in a flame of fire of a bush.
31Sidna Musa yewhem deg wayen yețwali ; akken kan iqeṛṛeb ɣuṛ-es, Sidi Ṛebbi yessawel-as-d seg uḥeǧǧaǧu-nni n tmes, yenna-yas-d :
31And Moses seeing it wondered at the vision; and as he went up to consider it, there was a voice of [the] Lord,
32D nekk i d Illu n lejdud-ik, d Illu n Ibṛahim, n Isḥaq akk-d Yeɛqub. Sidna Musa yeqqim ițergigi, yuggad ad yerfed ula d allen-is.
32*I* am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob. And Moses trembled, and durst not consider [it].
33Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-yas : Kkes arkasen seg iḍaṛṛen-ik axaṭer amkan-agi anda tbeddeḍ d amkan iqedsen.
33And the Lord said to him, Loose the sandal of thy feet, for the place on which thou standest is holy ground.
34Walaɣ lbaṭel ideṛṛun d wegdud-iw di tmurt n Maṣer ; sliɣ-ed i unazeɛ-nsen ; ṣubbeɣ-d iwakken a ten-sellkeɣ. Ṛuḥ tura a k-ceggɛeɣ ɣer tmurt n Maṣeṛ.
34I have surely seen the ill treatment of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groan, and have come down to take them out of it; and now, come, I will send thee to Egypt.
35Musa-nni i nekṛen m'akken i s-nnan : Anwa i k-yerran d amdebbar neɣ d lḥakem ? D nețța i d-iceggeɛ Sidi Ṛebbi d aqeṛṛuy, d amcafeɛ n wegdud ; s lemɛawna n lmelk i s-d-idehṛen deg udarnu ireqqen.
35This Moses, whom they refused, saying, Who made thee ruler and judge? him did God send [to be] a ruler and deliverer with the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36D nețța i ten-id-issufɣen si tmurt n Maṣer. Yexdem aṭas n lbeṛhanat d leɛǧayeb di tmurt-nni, di lebḥeṛ azeggaɣ, deg unezṛuf n Sinay, anda akken qqimen ṛebɛin iseggasen.
36*He* led them out, having wrought wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.
37D nețța daɣen i gennan i wat Isṛail : Sidi Ṛebbi a wen-d-yefk si ger watmaten-nwen yiwen n nnbi am nekk.
37This is the Moses who said to the sons of Israel, A prophet shall God raise up to you out of your brethren like me [him shall ye hear].
38Asm'akken i gennejmaɛ wegdud deg unezṛuf, d nețța iwumi d yemmeslay lmelk-nni deg wedrar n Sinay, d nețța iwumi d-yefka Sidi Ṛebbi awal n tudert iwakken a ɣ-t-id issiweḍ.
38This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers; who received living oracles to give to us;
39Lameɛna lejdud-nneɣ ugin a s-aɣen awal ; ur t-qbilen ara axaṭer deg ulawen-nsen bɣan ad uɣalen ɣer tmurt n Maṣer.
39to whom our fathers would not be subject, but thrust [him] from them, and in their hearts turned back to Egypt,
40Nnan i Haṛun gma-s n Sidna Musa : Xdem-aɣ-d iṛebbiten am wid n imaṣriyen, ara nezzwer zdat-nneɣ, axaṭer Musa-agi i ɣ-d-yessufɣen si tmurt n Maṣeṛ, ur neẓri ara d acu i gedṛan yid-es.
40saying to Aaron, Make us gods who shall go before us; for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we know not what has happened to him.
41Dɣa deg ussan-nni, jemɛen-d ddheb, ssefsin-t xedmen yis yiwen ugenduz. Imiren zlan-as asfel, xedmen-as tameɣṛa, feṛḥen s wayen xedmen yifassen-nsen.
41And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.
42Sidi Ṛebbi yeṭṭaxeṛ fell-asen, yeǧǧa-ten ad ɛebden itran n yigenni , d ayen i guran di tektabt n lenbiya : Ay agdud n wat Isṛail, eɛni i nekk iwumi d-tefkam lewɛadi d iseflawen, di ṛebɛin iseggasen-nni i tesɛeddam deg unezṛuf ?
42But God turned and delivered them up to serve the host of heaven; as it is written in [the] book of the prophets, Have ye offered me victims and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
43Xaṭi meɛna tbubbem aqiḍun n Mulux akk-d itri n Rufan i tḥesbem d iṛebbiten-nwen ;+ lmeṣnuɛat nni i txedmem iwakken a ten-tɛebdem ! Daymi ara kkun-nfuɣ ɣer lebɛid, akkin i temdint n Babilun !
43Yea, ye took up the tent of Moloch, and the star of [your] god Remphan, the forms which ye made to do homage to them; and I will transport you beyond Babylon.
44Deg unezṛuf, lejdud-nneɣ sɛan aqiḍun i deg yella leɛqed n Sidi Ṛebbi ; aqiḍun-nni ițwaxedmen akken i s-t-id-yemla Sidi Ṛebbi i Sidna Musa mi s-d-yenna : Xdem-it am akken i t-twalaḍ di lemtel i k-d-ssekneɣ.
44Our fathers had the tent of the testimony in the wilderness, as he that spoke to Moses commanded to make it according to the model which he had seen;
45Mi d-yewweḍ uqiḍun-nni ɣer ifassen n lejdud-nneɣ , wwin-t-id yid-sen mi i ten-issekcem Yacuɛa ɣer tmurt-nni i sen-yewɛed Sidi Ṛebbi , mi ssufɣen imezdaɣ-is s tezmert n Sidi Ṛebbi. Aqiḍun-nni yeqqim dinna armi d zzman n Sidna Dawed.
45which also our fathers, receiving from their predecessors, brought in with Joshua when they entered into possession of [the lands of] the nations, whom God drove out from [the] face of our fathers, until the days of David;
46Sidna Dawed eɛzizen ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi, yedɛa ɣuṛ-es yenna : A Sidi Ṛebbi ! A Yillu n jeddi-tneɣ Yeɛqub ! Eǧǧ-iyi ad a k-bnuɣ lǧameɛ iqedsen ara yilin ț-țanezduɣt-ik !
46who found favour before God, and asked to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob;
47Lameɛna d Sidna Sliman i s yebnan lǧameɛ-nni !
47but Solomon built him a house.
48Ɣas akken Sidi Ṛebbi ɛlayen ur izeddeɣ ara deg ixxamen ițwabnan s ufus n wemdan, akken i d-yenna nnbi Iceɛya :
48But the Most High dwells not in [places] made with hands; as says the prophet,
49Igenni d amkan n lḥekma-w, ma d lqaɛa ț-țaḥsiṛt i ɣef srusuɣ idaṛṛen-iw. Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-d : Acu n wexxam i tzemrem a yi-tebnum, neɣ anda-t wemkan i deg zemreɣ ad steɛfuɣ ?
49The heaven [is] my throne and the earth the footstool of my feet: what house will ye build me? saith [the] Lord, or where [is the] place of my rest?
50Eɛni mačči d afus-iw i d-ixelqen kullec ?
50has not my hand made all these things?
51A wid isbeddayen iɛenqiqen nsen ! Tesɣaṛayem ulawen-nwen, tqeflem imeẓẓuɣen-nwen, tețțeddum di nneqma i Ṛṛuḥ iqedsen am kunwi am lejdud-nwen !
51O stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, *ye* do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers, *ye* also.
52Anwa nnbi ur qhiṛen ara lejdud-nwen ? Nɣan wid akk ițbecciṛen si zik ɣef Uḥeqqi ara d-yasen ; tura d kunwi i t-ixedɛen yerna tenɣam-t.
52Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain those who announced beforehand concerning the coming of the Just One, of whom *ye* have now become deliverers up and murderers!
53Tewweḍ-ikkun-id ccariɛa n Sidi Ṛebbi s ufus n lmalayekkat, lameɛna kunwi tugim a s-taɣem awal !
53who have received the law as ordained by [the] ministry of angels, and have not kept [it].
54Mi slan i yemslayen-agi, lmuqedmin iffeɣ-iten leɛqel, qeṛcen tuɣmas-nsen fell-as.
54And hearing these things they were cut to the heart, and gnashed their teeth against him.
55Lameɛna Stifan yeččuṛen d Ṛṛuḥ iqedsen, yerfed allen-is ɣer igenni, iwala tamanegt n Sidi Ṛebbi akk-d Sidna Ɛisa ibedden ɣer uyeffus-is.
55But being full of [the] Holy Spirit, having fixed his eyes on heaven, he saw [the] glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,
56Imiren iɛeggeḍ, yenna : Atan țwaliɣ igenwan ldin, țwaliɣ Mmi-s n bunadem ibedd ɣer tama tayeffust n Ṛebbi !
56and said, Lo, I behold the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.
57Qeflen imeẓẓuɣen-nsen, bdan țɛeggiḍen, ẓedmen fell-as akken ma llan.
57And they cried out with a loud voice, and held their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord;
58Zzuɣṛen-t beṛṛa n temdint, ṛejmen-t s iblaḍen iwakken a t-nɣen. Inigan ǧǧan leḥwayeǧ-nsen ɣer yiwen ilemẓi isem-is Caɛul, iwakken a ten-iɛas.
58and having cast [him] out of the city, they stoned [him]. And the witnesses laid aside their clothes at the feet of a young man called Saul.
59M'akken i t-ṛeǧmen, Stifan ideɛɛu ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi yeqqaṛ : A Sidna Ɛisa, atan ṛṛuḥ-iw ger ifassen-ik !
59And they stoned Stephen, praying, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60Imiren yeɣli ɣef tgecrar, iɛeggeḍ s lǧehd-is : A baba Ṛebbi ur ten-țḥasab ara ɣef ddnub-agi ! Akken kan i d-yenna imeslayen agi, iffeɣ-it ṛṛuḥ.
60And kneeling down, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep.
