1Imiren Sidna Ɛisa yenṭeq ɣer lɣaci d inelmaden-is yenna yasen :
1Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
2Lɛulama d ifariziyen sselmaden ccariɛa n Musa.
2saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sat on Moses’ seat.
3Xedmet ayen akk ara wen-d-inin, meɛna ur xeddmet ara wayen xeddmen nutni, axaṭer ayen i d-qqaṛen ur t-xeddmen ara.
3 All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
4Țcuddun tiɛekkmin ẓẓayen țɛebbin-tent ɣef tuyat n yemdanen, ma d nutni țțagin a ten-ɛiwnen ula s yixef n iḍuḍan-nsen.
4 For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5Ayen akk i xeddmen, xeddmen-t iwakken a ten-walin yemdanen, țɛelliqen tiḥerztin ț-țeɣṛisin ɣef yiman-nsen.
5 But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries phylacteries (tefillin in Hebrew) are small leather pouches that some Jewish men wear on their forehead and arm in prayer. They are used to carry a small scroll with some Scripture in it. See Deuteronomy 6:8. broad, enlarge the fringes or, tassels of their garments,
6Ḥemmlen ad ṭṭfen imukan imezwura ama di tmeɣṛiwin ama di leǧwameɛ, ḥemmlen m'ara țsellimen fell-asen yemdanen di tejmuyaɛ akk-d leswaq ;
6 and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7ḥemmlen daɣen m'ara sen-qqaṛen yemdanen : « a Sidi ».
7 the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
8Ma d kunwi ɣuṛ-wat a wen qqaṛen : « a Sidi » axaṭer d atmaten i tellam yerna yiwen kan i d Ssid-nwen.
8 But don’t you be called ‘Rabbi,’ for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
9Ur qqaṛet ula i yiwen di ddunit : « Baba » axaṭer anagar yiwen i d baba-wen, d Baba Ṛebbi yellan deg igenwan.
9 Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
10Ur qebblet ara aț-țețțusemmim : « imeqqranen » axaṭer anagar yiwen i d ameqqran : d Lmasiḥ !
10 Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
11Ameqqran deg-wen, d win iqeddcen fell-awen.
11 But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
12Kra n win issimɣuṛen iman-is a d-yers, ma d win issimẓiyen iman is ad ițwarfed !
12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin wudmawen ! AAxaṭer tmeddlem tiwwura n igenwan i yemdanen, ur tkeččmem kunwi, ur tețțaǧǧam ad kecmen wid yebɣan !
13 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
14A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin wudmawen ! Axaṭer tettețțem ayla n tuǧǧal, tesṭuqqutem awal di tẓallit-nwen iwakken a d-tesbegnem iman-nwen telham. Ɣef wayagi, lɛiqab i kkun-ițṛaǧun d ameqqran !
14 “But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter. Some Greek manuscripts reverse the order of verses 13 and 14, and some omit verse 13, numbering verse 14 as 13.
15A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin udmawen ! Tețnadim timura, tzeggrem lebḥuṛ iwakken a d-rebḥem ɣas ula d yiwen ɣer ddin i tettabaɛem; mi t-id-rnam ɣuṛ-wen, tețțaram-t d win yuklalen ǧahennama akteṛ-nwen !
15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much of a son of Gehenna or, Hell as yourselves.
16A nnger-nwen ay iderɣalen iteṭṭfen afus i wiyaḍ ! Teqqaṛem : « Ma yella yeggul bunadem s lǧameɛ iqedsen, ɣas yeḥnet ulac fell-as ; ma d win ara yegallen s ddheb yellan di lǧameɛ, ur s-ilaq ara ad iḥnet, ilaq ad iṭṭef di limin-ines ! »
16 “Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
17Ay imehbal, ay iderɣalen ! D acu i gesɛan azal, d ddheb neɣ d lǧameɛ i gețțarran ddheb-nni d imqeddes ?
17 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18Teqqaṛem daɣen : « Win ara yegallen s udekkan n iseflawen, ɣas iḥnet ulac fell-as, ma d win ara yegallen s iseflawen nni, ur s-ilaq ara ad iḥnet, ilaq ad iṭṭef di limin-ines.»
18 ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated?’
19Ay iderɣalen ! Anwa i gesɛan azal, d iseflawen neɣ d udekkan-nni i gerran iseflawen d imqedsen ?
19 You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20Win ara yegallen s udekkan n iseflawen, yeggul s udekkan-nni d wayen akk yersen fell-as.
20 He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it.
21Win ara yegallen daɣen s lǧameɛ, yeggul s lǧameɛ akk-d Win i gellan deg-s.
21 He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who was living NU reads “lives” in it.
22Win ara yegallen s igenwan, yeggul daɣen s igenwan akk-d Sidi Ṛebbi iḥekkmen deg-sen.
22 He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.
23A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin udmawen ! tețțakem leɛcuṛ ɣef nneɛneɛ, abesbas d lkemmun, lameɛna tețțaǧǧam ɣer deffir lḥeqq, ṛṛeḥma d laman. DD annect-agi i gețṛaǧu deg-wen Sidi Ṛebbi aț-țezwirem deg-sen a ten-txedmem, mbla ma terram deg idis ayen nniḍen.
23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, cumin is an aromatic seed from Cuminum cyminum, resembling caraway in flavor and appearance. It is used as a spice. and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24Ay iderɣalen iteṭṭfen afus i wiyaḍ ! Tețṣeffim tissit-nwen ɣef yizi, tesseblaɛem alɣem.
24 You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25A nnger-wen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin wudmawen ! Axaṭer tessizdigem taqbuct d uḍebsi s ufella kan, meɛna ɣer daxel-nsen ččuṛen ț-țukeṛdiwin d ṭṭmeɛ.
25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness. TR reads “self-indulgence” instead of “unrighteousness”
26Ay afarizi aderɣal ! Ssizdeg uqbel daxel n teqbuct d uḍebsi, iwakken ula s ufella-nsen ad izdigen !
26 You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
27A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin udmawen ! TTețțemcabim ɣer iẓekwan isebɣen s lǧir ; s ufella cebḥen, ɣer daxel ččuṛen d iɣsan n lmegtin d rekku.
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28Akka ula d kunwi, tețbegginem-d iman-nwen telham ɣer yemdanen, lameɛna zdaxel teččuṛem d leɣruṛ d cceṛ.
28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29A nnger-nwen ay ifariziyen d lɛulama n ccariɛa, ay at sin wudmawen ! Tbennum iẓekwan n lenbiya, tețcebbiḥem iẓekwan n wid iḍuɛen Sidi Ṛebbi,
29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30teqqaṛem lemmer i nɛac di zzman n lejdud-nneɣ, tili ur neqbil ara a nțekki yid-sen deg ussizel n idammen n lenbiya.
30 and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
31S wakka tețcehhidem belli kunwi ț-țarwa n wid ineqqen lenbiya
31 Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
32yerna kunwi tețkemmilem ayen xedmen lejdud-nwen !
32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
33A ccetla n izerman ! Amek ara tmenɛem si lɛiqab n ǧahennama ?
33 You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna or, Hell ?
34Daymi ara wen-d-ceggɛeɣ lenbiya, imusnawen akk-d lɛulama. KKra seg-sen a ten-tenɣem, kra a ten-tsemmṛem ɣef wumidag, kra nniḍen a ten-tejlekḍem di leǧwameɛ nwen yerna a ten-tețqehhiṛem si temdint ɣer tayeḍ.
34 Therefore behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;
35Ihi, idammen n iḥeqqiyen yuzzlen di lqaɛa, si Habil aḥeqqi mmi-s n Adem armi d Zakarya mmi-s n Birikya, i tenɣam ger lǧameɛ iqedsen d udekkan iseflawen, a d-uɣalen ɣer yiri-nwen.
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
36A wen-d-iniɣ tideț : ayagi meṛṛa a d-yeɣli ɣef lǧil-agi !
36 Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37A tamdint n Lquds ! A tamdint n Lquds ineqqen lenbiya, ireǧǧmen wid i m-d-ițuceggɛen s ɣuṛ Ṛebbi, acḥal n tikkal i bɣiɣ a d-jemɛeɣ arraw-im akken tjemmeɛ tyaziṭ ifṛax-is ddaw wafriwen-is, meɛna tegummaḍ !
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
38Ihi atan wexxam-im ad yexlu !
38 Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39Axaṭer aql-i a wen-iniɣ : ur tețțuɣalem ara a yi-twalim, alamma d ass i deg ara d-tinim : Yețțubarek win i d-yusan s yisem n Sidi Ṛebbi !
39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’” Psalm 118:26
