1[Ny nangatahan'ny Isiraely mpanjaka] Ary rehefa antitra Samoela, dia ny zanany no nataony mpitsara ny Isiraely.
1And it cometh to pass, when Samuel [is] aged, that he maketh his sons judges over Israel.
2Ary Joela no anaran'ny lahimatoany, ary Abia no anaran'ny faralahiny; mpitsara tany Beri-sheba izy ireo.
2And the name of his first-born son is Joel, and the name of his second Abiah, judges in Beer-Sheba:
3Nefa ny zanany tsy nanaraka ny dian-drainy, fa nivily nitady vola aman-karena ka nandray kolikoly sy nanao fitsarana miangatra.
3and his sons have not walked in his ways, and turn aside after the dishonest gain, and take a bribe, and turn aside judgment.
4Ary ny loholon'ny Isiraely rehetra nivory tao Rama ho any amin'i Samoela
4And all the elders of Israel gather themselves together, and come in unto Samuel to Ramath,
5ka nanao taminy hoe: Indro, efa antitra ianao, ary ny zanakao tsy manaraka ny dianao; koa manendre mpanjaka ho anay hitsara anay, tahaka ny firenena rehetra.
5and say unto him, `Lo, thou hast become aged, and thy sons have not walked in thy ways; now, appoint to us a king, to judge us, like all the nations.`
6Fa tsy sitrak'i Samoela ny nanaovan'ny olona hoe: Omeo mpanjaka izahay hitsara anay. Dia nivavaka tamin'i Jehovah Samoela.
6And the thing is evil in the eyes of Samuel, when they have said, `Give to us a king to judge us;` and Samuel prayeth unto Jehovah.
7Ary hoy Jehovah tamin'i Samoela: Henoy ihany ny tenin'ny olona amin'izany rehetra lazainy aminao; fa tsy ianao no laviny, fa Izaho no laviny tsy hanjaka aminy.
7And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to the voice of the people, to all that they say unto thee, for thee they have not rejected, but Me they have rejected, from reigning over them.
8Araka ny asa rehetra izay nataony hatramin'ny andro nitondrako azy nivoaka avy tany Egypta ka mandraka androany, dia ny nahafoizany Ahy sy ny nanompoany andriamani-kafa, dia toy izany koa no ataony aminao.
8According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods — so they are doing also to thee.
9Ary ankehitriny henoy ihany ny teniny, kanefa lazao aminy marimarina, ka asehoy azy ny ho fanaon'ny mpanjaka izay hanjaka aminy.
9And now, hearken to their voice; only, surely thou dost certainly protest to them, and hast declared to them the custom of the king who doth reign over them.`
10Dia nambaran'i Samoela tamin'ny olona izay nangataka mpanjaka taminy ny teny rehetra nolazain'i Jehovah.
10And Samuel speaketh all the words of Jehovah unto the people who are asking from him a king,
11Ary hoy izy: Izao no ho fanaon'ny mpanjaka izay hanjaka aminareo: Ny zanakareo-lahy dia halainy ka hotendreny ho amin'ny kalesiny sy ho mpitaingin-tsoavaliny ary hihazakazaka eo alohan'ny kalesiny,
11and saith, `This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;
12ary hotendreny ho mpifehy arivo sy ho mpifehy dimam-polo, ary hiasa ny taniny sy hijinja ny vokany ary hanao ny fiadiany sy ny fanaka momba ny kalesiny;
12also to appoint for himself heads of thousands, and heads of fifties; also to plow his plowing, and to reap his reaping; and to make instruments of his war, and instruments of his charioteer.
13ary ny zanakareo-vavy dia halainy ho mpangaroharo zava-manitra ary ho mpahandro sy mpanao mofo;
13`And your daughters he doth take for perfumers, and for cooks, and for bakers;
14ary ny tsara indrindra amin'ny sahanareo sy ny tanim-boalobokareo sy ny tanin'olivanareo dia halainy ka homeny ho an'ny mpanompony;
14and your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards — the best — he doth take, and hath given to his servants.
15ary ny ampahafolon'ny voan-javatrareo sy ny tanim-boalobokareo dia halainy ka homeny ho an'ny tandapany sy ny tandonany.[Heb. ionoka]
15And your seed and your vineyards he doth tithe, and hath given to his eunuchs, and to his servants.
16Ary ny ankizilahinareo sy ny ankizivavinareo sy ny zatovonareo tsara indrindra ary ny borikinareo dia halainy ka hampanaoviny ny asany.
16And your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your young men — the best, and your asses, he doth take, and hath prepared for his own work;
17Ary halainy koa ny ampahafolon'ny ondry aman'osinareo; ary ny tenanareo ho tonga mpanompony.
17your flock he doth tithe, and ye are to him for servants.
18Ary hitaraina amin'izany andro izany ianareo noho ny mpanjakanareo izay nofidinareo ho anareo, fa Jehovah tsy hamaly anareo amin'izany andro izany.
18And ye have cried out in that day because of the king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, and Jehovah doth not answer you in that day.`
19Kanefa tsy nety nihaino ny tenin'i Samoela ny olona, fa hoy izy: Tsia, fa aoka ihany hisy mpanjaka hanjaka aminay,
19And the people refuse to hearken to the voice of Samuel, and say, `Nay, but a king is over us,
20mba ho tahaka ny firenena rehetra koa izahay, ka ny mpanjakanay hitsara anay sy hivoaka eo alohanay ary hitarika ny adinay.
20and we have been, even we, like all the nations; and our king hath judged us, and gone out before us, and fought our battles.`
21Ary ren'i Samoela ny teny rehetra nolazain'ny olona, ka dia nolazainy teo anatrehan'i Jehovah kosa.Ary hoy Jehovah tamin'i Samoela: Henoy ny teniny ka manendre mpanjaka ho azy. Dia hoy Samoela tamin'ny lehilahy amin'ny Isiraely: Samia ary mandeha ho any amin'ny tanànanareo avy ianareo rehetra.
21And Samuel heareth all the words of the people, and speaketh them in the ears of Jehovah;
22Ary hoy Jehovah tamin'i Samoela: Henoy ny teniny ka manendre mpanjaka ho azy. Dia hoy Samoela tamin'ny lehilahy amin'ny Isiraely: Samia ary mandeha ho any amin'ny tanànanareo avy ianareo rehetra.
22and Jehovah saith unto Samuel, `Hearken to their voice, and thou hast caused to reign over them a king.` And Samuel saith unto the men of Israel, `Go ye each to his city.`
