¹{To the chief Musician. [A Psalm] of David, the servant of Jehovah, who spoke to Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies and out of the hand of Saul. And he said,} I will love thee, O Jehovah, my strength.

²Ko Ihowa toku kamaka, toku pa, toku kaiwhakaora; toku Atua, toku tino kamaka, e whakawhirinaki ai ahau; toku whakangungu rakau, te haona o toku whakaoranga, toku pourewa tiketike.

²Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my ùGod, my rock, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

³I will call upon Jehovah, who is to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

⁴The bands of death encompassed me, and torrents of Belial made me afraid.

⁵The bands of Sheol surrounded me, the cords of death encountered me.

⁶I karanga ahau ki a Ihowa i toku paweratanga, i hamama ki toku Atua: i whakarongo ia ki toku reo i roto i tona temepara, i tae ano taku hamama ki tona aroaro, ki ona taringa.

⁶In my distress I called upon Jehovah, and I cried out to my God; he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, into his ears.

⁷Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains trembled and shook, because he was wroth.

⁸There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals burned forth from it.

⁹And he bowed the heavens, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

¹⁰And he rode upon a cherub and did fly; yea, he flew fast upon the wings of the wind.

¹¹He made darkness his secret place, his tent round about him: darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.

¹²From the brightness before him his thick clouds passed forth: hail and coals of fire.

¹³And Jehovah thundered in the heavens, and the Most High uttered his voice: hail and coals of fire.

¹⁴And he sent his arrows, and scattered [mine enemies]; and he shot forth lightnings, and discomfited them.

¹⁵And the beds of the waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered at thy rebuke, Jehovah, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

¹⁶I tono karere mai ia i runga, ka mau ki ahau; toia ake ahau e ia i roto i nga wai maha.

¹⁶He reached forth from above, he took me, he drew me out of great waters:

¹⁷Nana ahau i ora ai i toku hoariri kaha, i te hunga e kino ana ki ahau; he kaha rawa hoki ratou i ahau.

¹⁷He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me; for they were mightier than I.

¹⁸I huakina tatatia ahau e ratou i te ra o toku matenga; ko Ihowa ia toku whakawhirinakitanga.

¹⁸They encountered me in the day of my calamity, but Jehovah was my stay.

¹⁹I whakaputaina ahau e ia ki te wahi nui, i whakaorangia ahau e ia; he ahuareka nona ki ahau.

¹⁹And he brought me forth into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

²⁰¶ Rite tonu ki taku mahi tika ta Ihowa utu ki ahau: rite tonu ki te ma o oku ringa tana i whakahoki ai ki ahau.

²⁰Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

²¹Moku i pupuri i nga ara o Ihowa, a kihai i he, i whakarere i toku Atua.

²¹For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

²²Kei mua tonu hoki i ahau ana whakaritenga katoa, kihai ano i whakamataratia atu i ahau ana tikanga.

²²For all his ordinances were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me;

²³Tapatahi tonu hoki toku whakaaro ki tona aroaro, a i tiaki ahau i ahau kei kino.

²³And I was upright with him, and kept myself from mine iniquity.

²⁴Na ka homai e Ihowa he utu ki ahau, rite tonu ki toku tika, ki te ma o oku ringa i tona aroaro.

²⁴And Jehovah hath recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

²⁵He tangata atawhai, ka atawhai hoki koe; he tangata tika, ka tika hoki koe.

²⁵With the gracious thou dost shew thyself gracious; with the upright man thou dost shew thyself upright;

²⁶He tangata ma, ka ma hoki koe; he tangata whakakeke, ka whakakeke hoki koe.

²⁶With the pure thou dost shew thyself pure; and with the perverse thou dost shew thyself contrary.

²⁷E whakaorangia hoki e koe te iwi ngakau mamae; ka whakahokia ano e koe ki raro nga kanohi whakakake.

²⁷For it is thou that savest the afflicted people; but the haughty eyes wilt thou bring down.

²⁸Mau hoki e whakau taku rama: ma Ihowa, ma toku Atua, e whakamarama toku pouri.

²⁸For it is thou that makest my lamp to shine: Jehovah my God enlighteneth my darkness.

²⁹¶ Nau hoki ahau i rere ai na waenganui atu i te ropu: na toku Atua hoki i pekea ai e ahau te taiepa.

²⁹For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

³⁰Tena ko te Atua, tika tonu tona ara: kua oti tana kupu te whakamatau; he whakangungu rakau ia ki te hunga katoa e whakawhirinaki ana ki a ia.

³⁰As for ùGod, his way is perfect; the word of Jehovah is tried: he is a shield to all that trust in him.

³¹Ko wai oti te Atua, ki te kahore a Ihowa? Ko wai hoki he kamaka, ki te kahore to tatou Atua?

³¹For who is +God save Jehovah? and who is a rock if not our God?

³²Ko te Atua, nana ahau i whitiki ki te kaha, i mea kia tino tika toku ara.

³²The ùGod who girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect,

³³Ko ia hei mea i oku waewae kia rite ki o te hata: mana hoki ahau e whakatu ki runga ki oku wahi tiketike.

³³Who maketh my feet like hinds' [feet], and setteth me upon my high places;

³⁴Ko ia hei whakaako i oku ringa ki te whawhai, a whati ana te kopere parahi i oku ringa.

³⁴Who teacheth my hands to war, and mine arms bend a bow of brass;

³⁵Kua homai ano e koe ki ahau te whakangungu rakau o tau whakaoranga: puritia ana ahau e tou ringa matau whakanuia ana e tou whakaaro mahakai.

³⁵And thou didst give me the shield of thy salvation, and thy right hand held me up; and thy condescending gentleness hath made me great.

³⁶I whakanuia e koe oku takahanga i raro i ahau; te paheke oku waewae.

³⁶Thou didst enlarge my steps under me, and mine ankles have not wavered.

³⁷Ka arumia e ahau oku hoariri, mau iho i ahau; e kore ahau e tahuri mai, a ngaro noa ratou.

³⁷I pursued mine enemies, and overtook them; and I turned not again till they were consumed.

³⁸I crushed them, and they were not able to rise: they fell under my feet.

³⁹And thou girdedst me with strength to battle; thou didst subdue under me those that rose up against me.

⁴⁰Kua meinga e koe kia tahuri mai nga tuara o oku hoariri ki ahau, kia hautopea ai e ahau te hunga e kino ana ki ahau.

⁴⁰And mine enemies didst thou make to turn their backs unto me, and those that hated me I destroyed.

⁴¹I karanga ratou, heoi kahore he kaiwhakaora: ki a Ihowa, otira kihai i whakahoki kupu ki a ratou.

⁴¹They cried, and there was none to save; -- unto Jehovah, and he answered them not.

⁴²Na ka tukia ratou e ahau a rite noa ratou ki te puehu e puhia ana e te hau: akiritia atu ana ratou ki waho, ano he paru no te huarahi.

⁴²And I did beat them small as dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the mire of the streets.

⁴³Kua whakaorangia ahau e koe i nga ngangautanga a te iwi; kua meinga e koe hei rangatira mo nga tauiwi: hei apa moku te iwi kahore i matauria e ahau.

⁴³Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; thou hast made me the head of the nations: a people I knew not doth serve me.

⁴⁴Kia rongo kau te taringa ki ahau, ka kakama tonu mai ratou ki ahau; ko nga tangata iwi ke ngohe kau ki ahau.

⁴⁴At the hearing of the ear, they obey me: strangers come cringing unto me.

⁴⁵Ka memeha haere nga tangata iwi ke: ka puta wehi mai hoki i roto i o ratou kuhunga.

⁴⁵Strangers have faded away, and they come trembling forth from their close places.

⁴⁶E ora ana a Ihowa; kia whakapaingia hoki toku kamaka, kia whakanuia te Atua o toku whakaoranga:

⁴⁶Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation,

⁴⁷Ko te Atua, mana nei e rapu he utu moku, mana e pehi nga iwi ki raro i ahau.

⁴⁷The ùGod who hath avenged me, and hath subjected the peoples to me;

⁴⁸Mana ahau e mawhiti ai i oku hoariri, ae ra, mau ahau e mea kia teitei ake i te hunga e whakatika mai ana ki ahau; ka whakaorangia ahau e koe i te tangata tutu.

⁴⁸Who hath delivered me from mine enemies: yea, thou hast lifted me up above them that rose up against me; from the man of violence hast thou delivered me.

⁴⁹Mo konei ka whakawhetai ahau ki a koe, e Ihowa, i waenganui i nga tauiwi: ka himene ki tou ingoa.

⁴⁹Therefore will I give thanks to thee, Jehovah, among the nations, and will sing psalms to thy name.

⁵⁰He nui nei tana whakaora i tana kingi; e whakaputa aroha ana ki tana tangata i whakawahi ai, ki a Rawiri ratou ko ona uri ake ake.

⁵⁰[It is he] who giveth great deliverances to his king, and sheweth loving-kindness to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
