¹Da machte sich Jakob wieder auf den Weg und ging ins Morgenland.

²Na ka titiro atu ia, a ka kite i tetahi poka i te parae, na, ko etahi kahui hipi e toru e takoto ana i te taha; i whakainumia hoki e ratou nga kahui ki te wai o taua poka: he nui hoki te kohatu i te waha o te poka.

²Und er sah sich um und siehe, da war ein Brunnen auf dem Felde, und siehe, drei Herden Schafe lagen dabei; denn von dem Brunnen mußten die Herden trinken. Und ein großer Stein lag über dem Loch des Brunnens.

³Und sie pflegten alle Herden daselbst zu versammeln und den Stein von dem Loch des Brunnens zu wälzen und die Schafe zu tränken, und taten alsdann den Stein wieder an seinen Ort, über das Loch.

⁴Und Jakob sprach zu ihnen: Meine Brüder, woher seid ihr? Sie antworteten: Wir sind von Haran.

⁵Er sprach zu ihnen: Kennt ihr auch Laban, den Sohn Nahors? Sie antworteten: Wir kennen ihn wohl.

⁶A ka mea ia ki a ratou, E ora ana ranei ia? Ka mea ratou, E ora ana ano: ko Rahera ano tenei, ko tana tamahine te haere mai nei me nga hipi.

⁶Er sprach zu ihnen: Geht es ihm gut? Sie antworteten: Es geht ihm gut; und siehe, da kommt seine Tochter Rahel mit den Schafen!

⁷Na ka mea ia, Nana, he nui ano te ra, ehara tenei i te wa hei huihuinga mai mo nga kararehe: whakainumia nga hipi, haere hoki ki te whangai.

⁷Er sprach: Siehe, es ist noch hoch am Tag und noch nicht Zeit, das Vieh einzutreiben; tränket die Schafe und gehet hin, weidet sie!

⁸Na ka mea ratou, E kore e taea e matou, kia huihuia mai ra ano nga kahui katoa, kia whakataka hoki e ratou te kohatu i te waha o te poka; katahi ka whakainu matou i nga hipi.

⁸Sie antworteten: Wir können es nicht, ehe alle Herden zusammengebracht sind und sie den Stein von dem Loch des Brunnens wälzen; dann können wir die Schafe tränken.

⁹¶ I a ia ano e korero ana ki a ratou, ka puta mai a Rahera me nga hipi a tona papa: ko ia hoki te kaiwhangai.

⁹Als er noch mit ihnen redete, kam Rahel mit ihres Vaters Schafen; denn sie hütete die Schafe.

¹⁰Als aber Jakob Rahel sah, die Tochter Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter, trat er hinzu und wälzte den Stein von dem Loch des Brunnens und tränkte die Schafe Labans, des Bruders seiner Mutter.

¹¹Und Jakob küßte Rahel und erhob seine Stimme und weinte.

¹²Da sagte Jakob der Rahel, daß er ihres Vaters Bruder und der Rebekka Sohn wäre. Da lief sie und sagte es ihrem Vater.

¹³Als nun Laban die Nachricht von Jakob, seiner Schwester Sohn, hörte, lief er ihm entgegen, umarmte und küßte ihn und führte ihn in sein Haus. Da erzählte er Laban diese ganze Geschichte.

¹⁴Da sprach Laban zu ihm: Wohlan, du bist mein Gebein und mein Fleisch! Und er blieb bei ihm einen Monat lang.

¹⁵Darnach sprach Laban zu Jakob: Solltest du mir darum umsonst dienen, weil du mein Neffe bist? Sage an, was soll dein Lohn sein?

¹⁶Na tokorua nga tamahine a Rapana: ko te ingoa o te tuakana ko Rea, ko te ingoa hoki o te teina ko Rahera.

¹⁶Laban aber hatte zwei Töchter; die ältere hieß Lea und die jüngere Rahel.

¹⁷Und Lea hatte matte Augen, Rahel aber war schön von Gestalt und schön von Angesicht.

¹⁸Und Jakob gewann Rahel lieb und sprach: Ich will dir sieben Jahre lang um Rahel, deine jüngere Tochter, dienen.

¹⁹Laban antwortete: Es ist besser, ich gebe sie dir, als einem andern Mann; bleibe bei mir!

²⁰Also diente Jakob um Rahel sieben Jahre lang, und sie kamen ihm vor wie einzelne Tage, so lieb hatte er sie.

²¹Und Jakob sprach zu Laban: Gib mir mein Weib, daß ich zu ihr komme, denn meine Zeit ist abgelaufen!

²²Da lud Laban alle Leute des Ortes und machte ein Mahl.

²³A, i te ahiahi ka mau ia ki a Rea ki tana tamahine, a kawea ana ia ki a ia; a ka haere ia ki roto, ki a ia.

²³Aber am Abend nahm er seine Tochter Lea und brachte sie zu ihm hinein; und er kam zu ihr.

²⁴A i hoatu e Rapana a Tiripa, tana pononga wahine, hei pononga ma Rea, ma tana tamahine.

²⁴Und Laban gab seine Magd Silpa seiner Tochter Lea zur Magd.

²⁵A, i te ata, na, ko Rea ia: a ka mea ia ki a Rapana, He aha tenei mahi au ki ahau? ehara ianei a Rahera i taku i mahi ai ahau ki a koe? he aha ra koe i tinihanga ai ki ahau?

²⁵Am Morgen aber, siehe, da war es Lea! Und er sprach zu Laban: Warum hast du mir das getan? Habe ich dir nicht um Rahel gedient? Warum hast du mich denn betrogen?

²⁶Laban antwortete: Man tut nicht also in unserm Lande, daß man die Jüngere vor der Älteren weggibt.

²⁷Halte die Woche aus mit dieser, so wird dir jene auch gegeben, um den Dienst, den du mir noch andere sieben Jahre lang leisten sollst.

²⁸Jakob tat also und hielt die Woche aus. Da gab er ihm Rahel, seine Tochter, zum Weibe.

³¹Als aber der HERR sah, daß Lea verhaßt war, machte er sie fruchtbar und Rahel unfruchtbar.

³²Und Lea empfing und gebar einen Sohn, den hieß sie Ruben. Denn sie sprach: Weil der HERR mein Elend angesehen hat, so wird mich nun mein Mann lieben!

³³Und sie empfing abermal und gebar einen Sohn und sprach: Weil der HERR gehört hat, daß ich verhaßt bin, so hat er mir auch diesen gegeben, und sie hieß ihn Simeon.

³⁴Na ka hapu ano ia, a ka whanau he tama; a ka mea ia, Katahi ano taku tahu ka piri mai ki ahau, no te mea hoki ka tokotoru a maua tama ka whanau; na reira i huaina ai e ia tona ingoa ko Riwai.

³⁴Sie empfing abermal und gebar einen Sohn und sprach: Nunmehr wird mein Mann mir anhänglich sein, denn ich habe ihm drei Söhne geboren; darum nannte sie ihn Levi.

³⁵Na ka hapu ano ia, a ka whanau he tama; a ka mea ia, Katahi ahau ka whakamoemiti ki a Ihowa: koia i huaina ai e ia tona ingoa ko Hura: a ka mutu tana whanau.

³⁵Sie empfing wieder und gebar einen Sohn und sprach: Nun will ich den HERRN preisen! Darum hieß sie ihn Juda; und sie hielt inne mit Gebären.
