1ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു; യിസ്രായേല്യരോ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ഔടി ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതത്തില് നിഹതന്മാരായി വീണു.
1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain on Mount Gilboa.
2ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിനെയും മക്കളെയും പിന്തേര്ന്നു ചെന്നു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിന്റെ മക്കളായ യോനാഥാനെയും അബീനാദാബിനെയും മല്ക്കീശൂവയെയും വെട്ടിക്കൊന്നു.
2The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
3പട ശൌലിന്റെ നേരെ ഏറ്റവും മുറുകി, വില്ലാളികള് അവനെ കണ്ടു, വില്ലാളികളാല് അവന് വിഷമത്തിലായി.
3The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.
4അപ്പോള് ശൌല് തന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകനോടുഈ അഗ്രചര്മ്മികള് വന്നു എന്നെ അവമാനിക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിന്റെ വാള് ഊരി എന്നെ കുത്തുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകന് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു മനസ്സുവന്നില്ല. അതുകൊണ്ടു ശൌല് ഒരു വാള് പിടിച്ചു അതിന്മേല് വീണു.
4Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.
5ശൌല് മരിച്ചു എന്നു അവന്റെ ആയുധവാഹകന് കണ്ടപ്പോള് താനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ തന്റെ വാളിന്മേല് വീണു മരിച്ചു.
5When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword, and died.
6ഇങ്ങനെ ശൌലും മൂന്നു മക്കളും അവന്റെ ഭവനമൊക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചു മരിച്ചു.
6So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.
7അവര് ഔടിപ്പോയി; ശൌലും മക്കളും മരിച്ചു എന്നു താഴ്വരയിലുള്ള യിസ്രായേല്യരൊക്കെയും കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി; ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് വന്നു അവയില് പാര്ത്തു.
7When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.
8പിറ്റെന്നാള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് നിഹതന്മാരുടെ വസ്ത്രം ഉരിവാന് വന്നപ്പോള് ശൌലും പുത്രന്മാരും ഗില്ബോവപര്വ്വതത്തില് വീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.
8It happened on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9അവര് അവന്റെ വസ്ത്രാദികള് ഉരിഞ്ഞു അവന്റെ തലയും ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗവും എടുത്തു തങ്ങളുടെ വിഗ്രഹക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ജനത്തിന്റെ ഇടയിലും വര്ത്തമാനം അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യദേശത്തെല്ലാടവും ആളയച്ചു.
9They stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines all around, to carry the news to their idols, and to the people.
10അവന്റെ ആയുധവര്ഗ്ഗം അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ ദേവന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് വെച്ചു; അവന്റെ തലയെ ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും തറെച്ചു.
10They put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.
11ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ശൌലിനോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും ഗിലെയാദിലെ യാബേശ് മുഴുവനും കേട്ടപ്പോള്
11When all Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
12ശൂരന്മാരെല്ലാവരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു ശൌലിന്റെ ശവവും അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരുടെ ശവങ്ങളും എടുത്തു യാബേശിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; അവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളെ യാബേശിലെ കരുവേലകത്തിന് കീഴില് കുഴിച്ചിട്ടു ഏഴു ദിവസം ഉപവസിച്ചു.
12all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
13ഇങ്ങനെ ശൌല് യഹോവയോടു ചെയ്ത അതിക്രമം ഹേതുവായും യഹോവയുടെ വചനം പ്രമാണിക്കായ്കയാലും വെളിച്ചപ്പാടത്തിയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിച്ചതിനാലും മരിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു.
13So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of the word of Yahweh, which he didn’t keep; and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,
14അവന് യഹോവയോടു അരുളപ്പാടു ചോദിക്കായ്കയാല് അവന് അവനെ കൊന്നു രാജത്വം യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകനായ ദാവീദിന്നു കൊടുത്തു.
14and didn’t inquire of Yahweh: therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
