1കാണ്മിന്‍ , നാം ദൈവമക്കള്‍ എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടുവാന്‍ പിതാവു നമുക്കു എത്ര വലിയ സ്നേഹം നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നാം ആകുന്നു. ലോകം അവനെ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു നമ്മെയും അറിയുന്നില്ല.
1Behold, how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.
2പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, നാം ഇപ്പോള്‍ ദൈവമക്കള്‍ ആകുന്നു. നാം ഇന്നതു ആകും എന്നു ഇതുവരെ പ്രത്യക്ഷമായില്ല. അവന്‍ പ്രത്യക്ഷനാകുമ്പോള്‍ നാം അവനെ താന്‍ ഇരിക്കും പോലെ തന്നേ കാണുന്നതാകകൊണ്ടു അവനോടു സദൃശന്മാര്‍ ആകും എന്നു നാം അറിയുന്നു.
2Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.
3അവനില്‍ ഈ പ്രത്യാശയുള്ളവന്‍ എല്ലാം അവന്‍ നിര്‍മ്മലനായിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ തന്നെത്തന്നേ നിര്‍മ്മലീകരിക്കുന്നു.
3Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
4പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ എല്ലാം അധര്‍മ്മവും ചെയ്യുന്നു; പാപം അധര്‍മ്മം തന്നേ.
4Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
5പാപങ്ങളെ നീക്കുവാന്‍ അവന്‍ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ അറിയുന്നു; അവനില്‍ പാപം ഇല്ല.
5You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.
6അവനില്‍ വസിക്കുന്നവന്‍ ആരും പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ ആരും അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല, അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടുമില്ല.
6Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him, neither knows him.
7കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളേ, ആരും നിങ്ങളെ തെറ്റിക്കരുതു; അവന്‍ നീതിമാനായിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നീതി ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ നീതിമാന്‍ ആകുന്നു.
7Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ പിശാചിന്റെ മകന്‍ ആകുന്നു. പിശാചു ആദിമുതല്‍ പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നുവല്ലോ. പിശാചിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളെ അഴിപ്പാന്‍ തന്നേ ദൈവപുത്രന്‍ പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.
8He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9ദൈവത്തില്‍നിന്നു ജനിച്ചവന്‍ ആരും പാപം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല; അവന്റെ വിത്തു അവനില്‍ വസിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവത്തില്‍നിന്നു ജനിച്ചതിനാല്‍ അവന്നു പാപം ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ കഴികയുമില്ല.
9Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.
10ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മക്കള്‍ ആരെന്നും പിശാചിന്റെ മക്കള്‍ ആരെന്നും ഇതിനാല്‍ തെളിയുന്നു; നീതി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കാത്തവന്‍ ആരും സഹോദരനെ സ്നേഹിക്കാത്തവനും ദൈവത്തില്‍നിന്നുള്ളവനല്ല.
10In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.
11നിങ്ങള്‍ ആദിമുതല്‍ കേട്ട ദൂതുനാം അന്യോന്യം സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നല്ലോ ആകുന്നു.
11For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;
12കയീന്‍ ദുഷ്ടനില്‍നിന്നുള്ളവനായി സഹോദരനെ കൊന്നതുപോലെ അല്ല; അവനെ കൊല്ലുവാന്‍ സംഗതി എന്തു? തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി ദോഷവും സഹോദരന്റേതു നീതിയുമുള്ളതാകകൊണ്ടത്രേ.
12unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
13സഹോദരന്മാരേ, ലോകം നിങ്ങളെ പകെക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ ആശ്ചര്‍യ്യപ്പെടരുതു.
13Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.
14നാം മരണം വിട്ടു ജീവനില്‍ കടന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സഹോദരന്മാരെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നതിനാല്‍ നമുക്കു അറിയാം. സ്നേഹിക്കാത്തവന്‍ മരണത്തില്‍ വസിക്കുന്നു.
14We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.
15സഹോദരനെ പകെക്കുന്നവന്‍ എല്ലാം കുലപാതകന്‍ ആകുന്നു. യാതൊരു കുലപാതകന്നും നിത്യജീവന്‍ ഉള്ളില്‍ വസിച്ചിരിപ്പില്ല എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ അറിയുന്നു.
15Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16അവന്‍ നമുക്കു വേണ്ടി തന്റെ പ്രാണനെ വെച്ചുകൊടുത്തതിനാല്‍ നാം സ്നേഹം എന്തു എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; നാമും സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ക്കും വേണ്ടി പ്രാണനെ വെച്ചുകൊടുക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.
16By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
17എന്നാല്‍ ഈ ലോകത്തിലെ വസ്തുവകയുള്ളവന്‍ ആരെങ്കിലും തന്റെ സഹോദരന്നു മുട്ടുള്ളതു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവനോടു മനസ്സലിവു കാണിക്കാഞ്ഞാല്‍ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സ്നേഹം അവനില്‍ എങ്ങനെ വസിക്കും?
17But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
18കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളേ, നാം വാക്കിനാലും നാവിനാലും അല്ല, പ്രവൃത്തിയിലും സത്യത്തിലും തന്നേ സ്നേഹിക്കുക.
18My little children, let’s not love in word only, neither with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
19നാം സത്യത്തിന്റെ പക്ഷത്തു നിലക്കുന്നവര്‍ എന്നു ഇതിനാല്‍ അറിയും;
19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,
20ഹൃദയം നമ്മെ കുറ്റം വിധിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ ദൈവം നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെക്കാള്‍ വലിയവനും എല്ലാം അറിയുന്നവനും എന്നു നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ ഉറപ്പിക്കാം.
20because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, ഹൃദയം നമ്മെ കുററം വിധിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കില്‍ നമുക്കു ദൈവത്തോടു പ്രാഗത്ഭ്യം ഉണ്ടു.
21Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;
22അവന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നാം പ്രമാണിച്ചു അവന്നു പ്രസാദമുള്ളതു ചെയ്യുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു എന്തു യാചിച്ചാലും അവങ്കല്‍നിന്നു ലഭിക്കും.
22and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
23അവന്റെ കല്പനയോ, അവന്റെ പുത്രനായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ നാമത്തില്‍ നാം വിശ്വസിക്കയും അവന്‍ നമുക്കു കല്പന തന്നതുപോലെ അന്യോന്യം സ്നേഹിക്കയും വേണം എന്നുള്ളതു തന്നേ.
23This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.
24അവന്റെ കല്പനകളെ പ്രമാണിക്കുന്നവന്‍ അവനിലും അവന്‍ ഇവനിലും വസിക്കുന്നു. അവന്‍ നമ്മില്‍ വസിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന്‍ നമുക്കു തന്ന ആത്മാവിനാല്‍ നാം അറിയുന്നു.
24He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
