1ശമൂവേല്ഒന്നാം പുസ്തകം
1Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:
2എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീമില് എല്ക്കാനാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് എലീഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു; എലീഹൂ എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായ തോഹൂവിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു.
2and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3എല്ക്കാനെക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഹന്നാ എന്നും മറ്റേവള്ക്കു പെനിന്നാ എന്നും പേര്; പെനിന്നെക്കു മക്കള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നെക്കോ മക്കള് ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
3This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.
4അവന് ശീലോവില് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാനും അവന്നു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും തന്റെ പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു ആണ്ടുതോറും ശീലോവിലേക്കു പോക പതിവായിരുന്നു; ഏലിയുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായി യഹോവേക്കു പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്ന ഹൊഫ്നിയും ഫീനെഹാസും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
4When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5എല്ക്കാനാ യാഗം കഴിക്കുമ്പോള് ഒക്കെയും തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ പെനിന്നെക്കും അവളുടെ സകലപുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രിമാര്ക്കും ഔഹരികൊടുക്കും.
5but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.
6ഹന്നെക്കോ അവന് ഹന്നയെ സ്നേഹിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഇരട്ടി ഔഹരി കൊടുക്കും. എന്നാല് യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരിന്നു.
6Her rival provoked her severely, to make her fret, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.
7യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരുന്നതിനാല് അവളുടെ പ്രതിയോഗി അവളെ വ്യസനിപ്പിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം വളരെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചു.
7As he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Yahweh, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.
8അവള് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന സമയത്തൊക്കെയും ആണ്ടുതോറും അവള് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു. അവള് അവളെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവള് കരഞ്ഞു പട്ടിണി കിടന്നു.
8Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
9അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടുഹന്നേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു കരയുന്നു? എന്തിന്നു പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു? നീ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാന് നിനക്കു പത്തു പുത്രന്മാരെക്കാള് നന്നല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
9So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.
10അവര് ശീലോവില്വെച്ചു തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം ഹന്നാ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോയി. പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലി യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ആസനത്തില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.
10She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, and wept bitterly.
11അവള് മനോവ്യസനത്തോടെ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു വളരെ കരഞ്ഞു.
11She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”
12അവള് ഒരു നേര്ച്ചനേര്ന്നു; സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, അടിയന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി അടിയനെ ഔര്ക്കയും അടിയനെ മറക്കാതെ ഒരു പുരുഷസന്താനത്തെ നലകുകയും ചെയ്താല് അടിയന് അവനെ അവന്റെ ജീവപര്യന്തം യഹോവേക്കു കൊടുക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയില് ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുകയുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
12It happened, as she continued praying before Yahweh, that Eli saw her mouth.
13ഇങ്ങനെ അവള് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏലി അവളുടെ വായെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി.
13Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14ഹന്നാ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു സംസാരിച്ചതിനാല് അവളുടെ അധരം അനങ്ങിയതല്ലാതെ ശബ്ദം കേള്പ്പാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; ആകയാല് അവള്ക്കു ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഏലിക്കു തോന്നിപ്പോയി.
14Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you.”
15ഏലി അവളോടുനീ എത്രത്തോളം ലഹരി പിടിച്ചിരിക്കും? നിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.
16അതിന്നു ഹന്നാ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ; ഞാന് മനോവ്യസനമുള്ളൊരു സ്ത്രീ; ഞാന് വീഞ്ഞോ മദ്യമോ കുടിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് എന്റെ ഹൃദയം പകരുകയത്രേ ചെയ്തതു.
16Don’t count your handmaid for a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”
17അടിയനെ ഒരു നീചസ്ത്രീയായി വിചാരിക്കരുതേ; അടിയന് സങ്കടത്തിന്റെയും വ്യസനത്തിന്റെയും ആധിക്യംകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു സംസാരിച്ചതു.
17Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”
18അതിന്നു ഏലിസമാധാനത്തോടെ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തോടു നീ കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ അവന് നിനക്കു നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
18She said, “Let your handmaid find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way, and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.
19അടിയന്നു തൃക്കണ്ണില് കൃപ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു സ്ത്രീ തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു; അവളുടെ മുഖം പിന്നെ വാടിയതുമില്ല.
19They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Yahweh, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.
20അനന്തരം അവര് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം രാമയില് തങ്ങളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി. എന്നാല് എല്ക്കാനാ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹന്നയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവളെ ഔര്ത്തു.
20It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for “heard by God.” saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”
21ഒരു ആണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഹന്നാ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഞാന് അവനെ യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവാങ്ങി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശമൂവേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
21The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22പിന്നെ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്ന പുരുഷനും അവന്റെ കുടുംബമൊക്കെയും യഹോവേക്കു വര്ഷാന്തരയാഗവും നേര്ച്ചയും കഴിപ്പാന് പോയി.
22But Hannah didn’t go up; for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”
23എന്നാല് ഹന്നാ കൂടെപോയില്ല; അവള് ഭര്ത്താവിനോടുശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറട്ടെ; പിന്നെ അവന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ എന്നു പാര്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് അവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
23Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.
24അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടുനിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെയാകട്ടെ; അവന്റെ മുലകുടിമാറുംവരെ താമസിക്ക; യഹോവ തന്റെ വചനം നിവര്ത്തിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവള് വീട്ടില് താമസിച്ചു മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ മകന്നു മുലകൊടുത്തു.
24When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.
25അവന്നു മുലകുടി മാറിയശേഷം അവള് മൂന്നു വയസ്സു പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു കാളയും ഒരു പറമാവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞുമായി അവനെ ശീലോവില് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുബാലനോ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നു.
25They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.
26അവര് കാളയെ അറുത്തിട്ടു ബാലനെ ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.
26She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.
27അവള് അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനേ; യജമാനനാണ, യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഇവിടെ സമീപത്തു നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീ ഞാന് ആകുന്നു.
27For this child I prayed; and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.
28ഈ ബാലന്നായിട്ടു ഞാന് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; ഞാന് യഹോവയോടു കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ യഹോവ എനിക്കു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
28Therefore also I have granted him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is granted to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.
29അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് അവനെ യഹോവേക്കു നിവേദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് ജീവപര്യന്തം യഹോവേക്കു നിവേദിതനായിരിക്കും. അവര് അവിടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിച്ചു.
