1അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് തൈലപാത്രം എടുത്തു അവന്റെ തലയില് ഒഴിച്ചു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതുയഹോവ തന്റെ അവകാശത്തിന്നു പ്രഭുവായി നിന്നെ അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.
1Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it on his head, and kissed him, and said, “Isn’t it that Yahweh has anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?
2നീ ഇന്നു എന്നെ പിരിഞ്ഞുപോകുമ്പോള് ബെന്യാമീന്റെ അതിരിങ്കലെ സെല്സഹില് റാഹേലിന്റെ കല്ലറെക്കരികെവെച്ചു രണ്ടാളെ കാണും; നീ അന്വേഷിപ്പാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോന്ന കഴുതകളെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അപ്പന് കഴുതയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ചിന്ത വിട്ടുഎന്റെ മകന്നുവേണ്ടി ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചു വിഷാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവര് നിന്നോടു പറയും.
2When you have departed from me today, then you shall find two men by Rachel’s tomb, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will tell you, ‘The donkeys which you went to seek have been found; and behold, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys, and is anxious for you, saying, “What shall I do for my son?”’
3അവിടെനിന്നു നീ മുമ്പോട്ടു ചെന്നു താബോരിലെ കരുവേലകത്തിന്നരികെ എത്തുമ്പോള് ഒരുത്തന് മൂന്നു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെയും വേറൊരുത്തന് മൂന്നു അപ്പവും വേറൊരുത്തന് ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞും ചുമന്നുകൊണ്ടു ഇങ്ങനെ മൂന്നു പുരുഷന്മാര് ബേഥേലില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോകുന്നതായി നിനക്കു എതിര്പെടും.
3“Then you shall go on forward from there, and you shall come to the oak of Tabor; and three men shall meet you there going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three young goats, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
4അവര് നിന്നോടു കുശലം ചോദിക്കും; നിനക്കു രണ്ടു അപ്പവും തരും; നീ അതു അവരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങിക്കൊള്ളേണം.
4and they will greet you, and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive of their hand.
5അതിന്റെ ശേഷം നീ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ പട്ടാളം ഉള്ള ദൈവഗിരിക്കു എത്തും; അവിടെ പട്ടണത്തില് കടക്കുമ്പോള് മുമ്പില് വീണ, തപ്പു, കുഴല്, കിന്നരം എന്നിവയോടുകൂടെ പൂജാഗിരിയില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരു പ്രവാചകഗണത്തെ കാണും; അവര് പ്രവചിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും.
5“After that you shall come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall happen, when you have come there to the city, that you shall meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tambourine, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying:
6യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു ശക്തിയോടെ നിന്റെമേല് വന്നിട്ടു നീയും അവരോടുകൂടെ പ്രവചിക്കയും ആള് മാറിയതുപോലെ ആയ്തീരുകയും ചെയ്യും.
6and the Spirit of Yahweh will come mightily on you, and you shall prophesy with them, and shall be turned into another man.
7ഈ അടയാളങ്ങള് നിനക്കു സംഭവിക്കുമ്പോള് യുക്തമെന്നു തോന്നുന്നതു ചെയ്ക; ദൈവം നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു.
7Let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do as occasion shall serve you; for God is with you.
8എന്നാല് നീ എനിക്കു മുമ്പെ ഗില്ഗാലിലേക്കു പോകേണം; ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളും സമാധാനയാഗങ്ങളും കഴിപ്പാന് ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരും; ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നു പറഞ്ഞുതരുവോളം ഏഴു ദിവസം അവിടെ കാത്തിരിക്കേണം.
8“You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: you shall wait seven days, until I come to you, and show you what you shall do.”
9ഇങ്ങനെ അവന് ശമൂവേലിനെ വിട്ടുപിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ദൈവം അവന്നു വേറൊരു ഹൃദയംകൊടുത്തു; ആ അടയാളങ്ങളെല്ലാം അന്നു തന്നേ സംഭവിച്ചു.
9It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs happened that day.
10അവര് അവിടെ ഗിരിയിങ്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് ഒരു പ്രവാചകഗണം ഇതാ, അവന്നെതിരെ വരുന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു ശക്തിയോടെ അവന്റെമേല് വന്നു; അവന് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് പ്രവചിച്ചു.
10When they came there to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily on him, and he prophesied among them.
11അവനെ മുമ്പെ അറിഞ്ഞവര് ഒക്കെയും അവന് പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് പ്രവചിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോള്കീശിന്റെ മകന്നു എന്തു സംഭവിച്ചു? ശൌലും പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ആയോ എന്നു ജനം തമ്മില് തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞു.
11It happened, when all who knew him before saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, “What is this that has come to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?”
12അതിന്നു അവിടത്തുകാരില് ഒരുത്തന് ആരാകുന്നു അവരുടെ ഗുരുനാഥന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആകയാല് ശൌലും ഉണ്ടോ പ്രവാചകഗണത്തില് എന്നുള്ളതു പഴഞ്ചൊല്ലായി തീര്ന്നു.
12One of the same place answered, “Who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
13അവന് പ്രവചിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം ഗിബെയയില് എത്തി.
13When he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.
14ശൌലിന്റെ ഇളയപ്പന് അവനോടും അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യനോടുംനിങ്ങള് എവിടെ പോയിരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. കഴുതകളെ തിരയുവാന് പോയിരുന്നു; അവയെ കാണായ്കയാല് ഞങ്ങള് ശമൂവേലിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.
14Saul’s uncle said to him and to his servant, “Where did you go?” He said, “To seek the donkeys. When we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel.”
15ശമൂവേല് നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞതു എന്നെ അറിയിക്കേണം എന്നു ശൌലിന്റെ ഇളയപ്പന് പറഞ്ഞു.
15Saul’s uncle said, “Please tell me what Samuel said to you.”
16ശൌല് തന്റെ ഇളയപ്പനോടുകഴുതകളെ കണ്ടുകിട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് ഞങ്ങളോടു തിട്ടമായി അറിയിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും ശമൂവേല് രാജത്വം സംബന്ധിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞതു അവന് അവനോടു അറിയിച്ചില്ല.
16Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys were found.” But concerning the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he didn’t tell him.
17അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല് ജനത്തെ മിസ്പയില് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി,
17Samuel called the people together to Yahweh to Mizpah;
18യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് യിസ്രായേലിനെ മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു മിസ്രയീമ്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും നിങ്ങളെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ച സകലരാജ്യക്കാരുടെയും കയ്യില്നിന്നും നിങ്ങളെ വിടുവിച്ചു.
18and he said to the children of Israel, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you:’
19നിങ്ങളോ സകല അനര്ത്ഥങ്ങളില്നിന്നും കഷ്ടങ്ങളില്നിന്നും നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ച നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തെ ഇന്നു ത്യജിച്ചുഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഒരു രാജാവിനെ നിയമിച്ചുതരേണമെന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് ഇപ്പോള് ഗോത്രംഗോത്രമായും സഹസ്രംസഹസ്രമായും യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പിന് .
19but you have this day rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, ‘No! Set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before Yahweh by your tribes, and by your thousands.”
20അങ്ങനെ ശമൂവേല് യിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം അടുത്തു വരുമാറാക്കി; ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തിന്നു ചീട്ടു വീണു.
20So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken.
21അവന് ബെന്യാമീന് ഗോത്രത്തെ കുടുംബംകുടുംബമായി അടുത്തുവരുമാറാക്കി; മത്രികുടുംബത്തിന്നു ചീട്ടു വീണു; പിന്നെ കീശിന്റെ മകനായ ശൌലിന്നു ചീട്ടുവീണു; അവര് അവനെ അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോള് കണ്ടില്ല.
21He brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families; and the family of the Matrites was taken; and Saul the son of Kish was taken: but when they sought him, he could not be found.
22അവര് പിന്നെയും യഹോവയോടുആയാള് ഇവിടെ വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു യഹോവഅവന് സാമാനങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഒളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
22Therefore they asked of Yahweh further, “Is there yet a man to come here?” Yahweh answered, “Behold, he has hidden himself among the baggage.”
23അവര് ഔടിച്ചെന്നു അവിടെനിന്നു അവനെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു. ജനമദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നപ്പോള് അവന് ജനത്തില് എല്ലാവരെക്കാളും തോള്മുതല് പൊക്കമേറിയവനായിരുന്നു.
23They ran and fetched him there; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.
24അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് സര്വ്വജനത്തോടുംയഹോവ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തവനെ നിങ്ങള് കാണുന്നുവോ? സര്വ്വജനത്തിലും അവനെപ്പോലെ ഒരുത്തനും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ജനമെല്ലാംരാജാവേ, ജയ ജയ എന്നു ആര്ത്തു.
24Samuel said to all the people, “You see him whom Yahweh has chosen, that there is none like him among all the people?” All the people shouted, and said, “Let the king live!”
25അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ശമൂവേല് രാജധര്മ്മം ജനത്തെ പറഞ്ഞുകേള്പ്പിച്ചു; അതു ഒരു പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതി യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് വെച്ചു. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ജനത്തെയെല്ലാം വീട്ടിലേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.
25Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before Yahweh. Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
26ശൌലും ഗിബെയയില് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി; ദൈവം മനസ്സില് തോന്നിച്ച ഒരു ആള്ക്കൂട്ടവും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി.
26Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the army, whose hearts God had touched.
27എന്നാല് ചില നീചന്മാര്ഇവന് നമ്മെ എങ്ങനെ രക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ ധിക്കരിച്ചു, അവന്നു കാഴ്ച കൊണ്ടുവരാതിരുന്നു. അവനോ അതു ഗണ്യമാക്കിയില്ല .
27But certain worthless fellows said, “How shall this man save us?” They despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.
