1അനന്തരം യഹോവ നാഥാനെ ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചു. അവന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു പട്ടണത്തില് രണ്ടു പുരുഷന്മാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തന് ധനവാന് , മറ്റവന് ദരിദ്രന് .
1Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2ധനവാന്നു ആടുമാടുകള് അനവധി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
2The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
3ദരിദ്രന്നോ താന് വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങി വളര്ത്തിയ ഒരു പെണ്കുഞ്ഞാടല്ലാതെ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു; അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കലും അവന്റെ മക്കളുടെ അടുക്കലും വളര്ന്നുവന്നു; അതു അവന് തിന്നുന്നതില് ഔഹരി തിന്നുകയും അവന് കുടിക്കുന്നതില് ഔഹരി കുടിക്കയും അവന്റെ മടിയില് കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു; അവന്നു ഒരു മകളെപ്പോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.
3but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him like a daughter.
4ധനവാന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഒരു വഴിയാത്രക്കാരന് വന്നു; തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന വഴിപോക്കന്നുവേണ്ടി പാകംചെയ്വാന് സ്വന്ത ആടുമാടുകളില് ഒന്നിനെ എടുപ്പാന് മനസ്സാകാതെ, അവന് ആ ദരിദ്രന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാടിനെ പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്ന ആള്ക്കുവേണ്ടി പാകം ചെയ്തു.
4A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man who had come to him.”
5അപ്പോള് ദാവീദിന്റെ കോപം ആ മനുഷ്യന്റെ നേരെ ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു; അവന് നാഥാനോടുയഹോവയാണ, ഇതു ചെയ്തവന് മരണയോഗ്യന് .
5David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!
6അവന് കനിവില്ലാതെ ഈ കാര്യം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ആ ആടിന്നുവേണ്ടി നാലിരട്ടി പകരം കൊടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
6He shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”
7നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുആ മനുഷ്യന് നീ തന്നേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് നിന്നെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവായിട്ടു അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തു, നിന്നെ ശൌലിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു.
7Nathan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
8ഞാന് നിനക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെയും നിന്റെ മാര്വ്വിടത്തിലേക്കു നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെയും തന്നു; യിസ്രായേല് ഗൃഹത്തെയും യെഹൂദാഗൃഹത്തെയും നിനക്കു തന്നു; പോരായെങ്കില് ഇന്നിന്നതും കൂടെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു തരുമായിരുന്നു.
8I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
9നീ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന നിരസിച്ചു അവന്നു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തതു എന്തിന്നു? ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു വെട്ടി അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തു. അവനെ അമ്മോന്യരുടെ വാള്കൊണ്ടു കൊല്ലിച്ചു.
9Why have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10നീ എന്നെ നിരസിച്ചു ഹിത്യനായ ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുത്തതുകൊണ്ടു വാള് നിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തെ ഒരിക്കലും വിട്ടുമാറുകയില്ല.
10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
11യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിന്റെ സ്വന്തഗൃഹത്തില്നിന്നു ഞാന് നിനക്കു അനര്ത്ഥം വരുത്തും; നീ കാണ്കെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരെ എടുത്തു നിന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു കൊടുക്കും; അവന് ഈ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്കും.
11“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
12നീ അതു രഹസ്യത്തില് ചെയ്തു; ഞാനോ ഈ കാര്യം യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും കാണ്കെ സൂര്യന്റെ വെട്ടത്തു തന്നേ നടത്തും.
12For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
13ദാവീദ് നാഥാനോടുഞാന് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു നാഥാന് ദാവീദിനോടുയഹോവ നിന്റെ പാപം മോചിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ മരിക്കയില്ല.
13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
14എങ്കിലും നീ ഈ പ്രവൃത്തിയില് യഹോവയുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് ദൂഷണം പറവാന് ഹേതു ഉണ്ടാക്കിയതു കൊണ്ടു നിനക്കു ജനിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു പോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നാഥാന് തന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി.
14However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”
15ഊരീയാവിന്റെ ഭാര്യ ദാവീദിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച കുഞ്ഞിനെ യഹോവ ബാധിച്ചു, അതിന്നു കഠിനരോഗം പിടിച്ചു.
15Nathan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it was very sick.
16ദാവീദ് കുഞ്ഞിന്നുവേണ്ടി ദൈവത്തോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; ദാവീദ് ഉപവസിക്കയും അകത്തു കടന്നു രാത്രി മുഴുവനും നിലത്തു കിടക്കയും ചെയ്തു.
16David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the earth.
17അവന്റെ ഗൃഹപ്രമാണികള് അവനെ നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേല്പിപ്പാന് ഉത്സാഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അരികെ നിന്നു; എന്നാല് അവന്നു മനസ്സായില്ല. അവരോടു കൂടെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചതുമില്ല.
17The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18എന്നാല് ഏഴാം ദിവസം കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി. കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചു എന്നു ദാവീദിനെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ഭൃത്യന്മാര് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു. കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നാം സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടു അവന് നമ്മുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കാതിരിക്കെ കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു നാം അവനോടു എങ്ങനെ പറയും? അവന് തനിക്കുതന്നേ വല്ല കേടും വരുത്തും എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.
18It happened on the seventh day, that the child died. The servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?”
19ഭൃത്യന്മാര് തമ്മില് മന്ത്രിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോള് കുഞ്ഞുമരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു ദാവീദ് ഗ്രഹിച്ചു, തന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുകുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുപോയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.
19But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
20ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് നിലത്തുനിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു കുളിച്ചു തൈലം പൂശി വസ്ത്രം മാറി യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ചെന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; അരമനയില് വന്നു; അവന്റെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം അവര് ഭക്ഷണം അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു അവന് ഭക്ഷിച്ചു.
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the house of Yahweh, and worshiped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate.
21അവന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് അവനോടുനീ ഈ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നതെന്തു? കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം നീ അവന്നു വേണ്ടി ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചശേഷം നീ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചുവല്ലോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
21Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
22അതിന്നു അവന് കുഞ്ഞു ജീവനോടിരുന്ന സമയം ഞാന് ഉപവസിച്ചു കരഞ്ഞു; കുഞ്ഞു ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ദൈവം എന്നോടു ദയ ചെയ്യുമോ ഇല്ലയോ? ആര്ക്കും അറിയാം എന്നു ഞാന് വിചാരിച്ചു.
22He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
23ഇപ്പോഴോ അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി; ഇനി ഞാന് ഉപവസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അവനെ മടക്കി വരുത്തുവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ഞാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു പോകയല്ലാതെ അവന് എന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്കു മടങ്ങിവരികയില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
23But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”
24പിന്നെ ദാവീദ് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ബത്ത്-ശേബയെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ചു അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു; അവള് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് അവന്നു ശലോമോന് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. യഹോവ അവനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു.
24David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;
25അവന് നാഥാന് പ്രവാചകനെ നിയോഗിച്ചു; അവന് യഹോവയുടെ പ്രീതിനിമിത്തം അവന്നു യെദീദ്യാവു എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.
25and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.
26എന്നാല് യോവാബ് അമ്മോന്യരുടെ രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു രാജനഗരം പിടിച്ചു.
26Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27യോവാബ് ദാവീദിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഞാന് രബ്ബയോടു പൊരുതു ജലനഗരം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
27Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.
28ആകയാല് ഞാന് നഗരം പിടിച്ചിട്ടു കീര്ത്തി എനിക്കാകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ ശേഷം ജനത്തെ ഒരുമിച്ചു കൂട്ടി നഗരത്തിന്നു നേരെ പാളയം ഇറങ്ങി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.
28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.”
29അങ്ങനെ ദാവീദ് ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂട്ടി രബ്ബയിലേക്കു ചെന്നു പടവെട്ടി അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു.
29David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30അവന് അവരുടെ രാജാവിന്റെ കിരീടം അവന്റെ തലയില്നിന്നു എടുത്തു; അതിന്റെ തൂക്കം ഒരു താലന്തു പൊന്നു; അതിന്മേല് രത്നം പതിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവര് അതു ദാവീദിന്റെ തലയില് വെച്ചു; അവന് നഗരത്തില്നിന്നു അനവധി കൊള്ളയും കൊണ്ടുപോന്നു.
30He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought out the spoil of the city, exceeding much.
31അവിടത്തെ ജനത്തെയും അവന് പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അവരെ ഈര്ച്ചവാളിന്നും മെതിവണ്ടിക്കും കോടാലിക്കും ആക്കി; അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഇഷ്ടികച്ചൂളയിലും വേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു; അമ്മോന്യരുടെ എല്ലാ പട്ടണങ്ങളോടും അവന് അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു. പിന്നെ ദാവീദും സകല ജനവും യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.
31He brought out the people who were therein, and put them under saws, and under iron picks, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick kiln: and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
