1അപ്പൊല്ലോസ് കൊരിന്തില്‍ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ പൌലോസ് ഉള്‍പ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു എഫെസോസില്‍ എത്തി ചില ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ കണ്ടു
1It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.
2നിങ്ങള്‍ വിശ്വസിച്ചിട്ടു പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിനെ പ്രാപിച്ചുവോ എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുപരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ഉണ്ടന്നെുപോലും ഞങ്ങള്‍ കേട്ടിട്ടില്ല എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
2He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
3എന്നാല്‍ ഏതായിരുന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്നാനം എന്നു അവന്‍ അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയോഹന്നാന്റെ സ്നാനം എന്നു അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.
3He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.”
4അതിന്നു പൌലൊസ്യോഹന്നാന്‍ മനസാന്തരസ്നാനമത്രേ കഴിപ്പിച്ചു തന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനായ യേശുവില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കേണം എന്നു ജനത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
4Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”
5ഇതു കേട്ടാറെ അവര്‍ കര്‍ത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തില്‍ സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.
5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6പൌലൊസ് അവരുടെ മേല്‍ കൈവെച്ചപ്പോള്‍ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു അവരുടെമേല്‍ വന്നു അവര്‍ അന്യഭാഷകളില്‍ സംസാരിക്കയും പ്രവചിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.
6When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages and prophesied.
7ആ പുരുഷന്മാര്‍ എല്ലാം കൂടി പന്ത്രണ്ടോളം ആയിരുന്നു.
7They were about twelve men in all.
8പിന്നെ അവന്‍ പള്ളിയില്‍ ചെന്നു ദൈവരാജ്യത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു സംവാദിച്ചും സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു മൂന്നു മാസത്തോളം പ്രാഗത്ഭ്യത്തോടെ പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.
8He entered into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a period of three months, reasoning and persuading about the things concerning the Kingdom of God.
9എന്നാല്‍ ചിലര്‍ കഠിനപ്പെട്ടു അനുസരിക്കാതെ പുരുഷാരത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഈ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തെ ദുഷിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ അവന്‍ അവരെ വിട്ടു ശിഷ്യന്മാരെ വേര്‍തിരിച്ചു, തുറന്നൊസിന്റെ പാഠശാലയില്‍ ദിനംപ്രതി സംവാദിച്ചുപോന്നു.
9But when some were hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.
10അതു രണ്ടു സംവത്സരത്തോളം നടക്കയാല്‍ ആസ്യയില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കുംന്ന യെഹൂദന്മാരും യവനന്മാരും എല്ലാം കര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ വചനം കേള്‍പ്പാന്‍ ഇടയായി.
10This continued for two years, so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
11ദൈവം പൌലൊസ് മുഖാന്തരം അസാധാരണയായ വീര്യപ്രവൃത്തികളെ ചെയ്യിക്കയാല്‍
11God worked special miracles by the hands of Paul,
12അവന്റെ മെയ്മേല്‍നിന്നു റൂമാലും ഉത്തരീയവും രോഗികളുടെമേല്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിടുകയും വ്യാധികള്‍ അവരെ വിട്ടുമാറുകയും ദുരാത്മാക്കള്‍ പുപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തു.
12so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were carried away from his body to the sick, and the evil spirits went out.
13എന്നാല്‍ ദേശാന്തരികളായി നടക്കുന്ന മന്ത്രവാദികളായ ചില യഹൂദന്മാര്‍പൌലൊസ് പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്ന യേശുവിന്റെ നാമത്തില്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടു ആണയിടുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യേശുവിന്റെ നാമം ചൊല്ലുവാന്‍ തുനിഞ്ഞു.
13But some of the itinerant Jews, exorcists, took on themselves to invoke over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.”
14ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തവര്‍ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ സ്കേവാ എന്ന ഒരു യേഹൂദന്റെ ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാര്‍ ആയിരുന്നു.
14There were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did this.
15ദുരാത്മാവു അവരോടുയേശുവിനെ ഞാന്‍ അറിയുന്നു; പൌലൊസിനെയും പരിചയമുണ്ടു; എന്നാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ ആര്‍ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
15The evil spirit answered, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?”
16പിന്നെ ദുരാത്മാവുള്ള മനുഷ്യന്‍ അവരുടെമേല്‍ ചാടി അവരെ ഇരുവരെയും കീഴടക്കി ജയിക്കയാല്‍ അവര്‍ നഗ്നരും മുറിവേറ്റവരുമായി ആ വീട്ടില്‍നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോയി.
16The man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
17ഇതു എഫേസൊസില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കുംന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരും യവനന്മാരും അറിഞ്ഞു; അവര്‍ക്കും ഒക്കെയും ഭയം തട്ടി, കര്‍ത്താവായ യേശുവിന്റെ നാമം മഹിമപ്പെട്ടു
17This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
18വിശ്വസിച്ചവരില്‍ അനേകരും വന്നു തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തികളെ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞു അറിയിച്ചു.
18Many also of those who had believed came, confessing, and declaring their deeds.
19ക്ഷുദ്രപ്രയോഗം ചെയ്തിരുന്ന പലരും തങ്ങളുടെ പുസ്തകങ്ങളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു എല്ലാവരും കാണ്‍കെ ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു; അവയുടെ വില കണകൂ കൂട്ടിയാറെ അമ്പതിനായിരം വെള്ളിക്കാശു എന്നു കണ്ടു.
19Many of those who practiced magical arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. They counted their price, and found it to be fifty thousand pieces of silver. The 50,000 pieces of silver here probably referred to 50,000 drachmas. If so, the value of the burned books was equivalent to about 160 man-years of wages for agricultural laborers
20ഇങ്ങനെ കര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ വചനം ശക്തിയോടെ പരന്നു പ്രബലപ്പെട്ടു.
20So the word of the Lord was growing and becoming mighty.
21ഇതു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു പൌലൊസ് മക്കെദോന്യയിലും അഖായയിലും കൂടി കടന്നു യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കും പോകേണം എന്നു മനസ്സില്‍ നിശ്ചയിച്ചുഞാന്‍ അവിടെ ചെന്നശേഷം റോമയും കാണേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
21Now after these things had ended, Paul determined in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, “After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”
22തനിക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്യുന്നവരില്‍ തിമൊഥെയൊസ്, എരസ്തൊസ് എന്ന രണ്ടുപേരെ മക്കെദോന്യയിലേക്കു അയച്ചിട്ടു താന്‍ കുറെക്കാലം ആസ്യയില്‍ താമസിച്ചു.
22Having sent into Macedonia two of those who served him, Timothy and Erastus, he himself stayed in Asia for a while.
23ആ കാലത്തു ഈ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി വലിയ കലഹം ഉണ്ടായി.
23About that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way.
24വെള്ളികൊണ്ടു അര്‍ത്തെമിസ് ദേവിയുടെ ക്ഷേത്രരൂപങ്ങളെ തീര്‍ക്കുംന്ന ദെമേത്രിയൊസ് എന്ന തട്ടാന്‍ തൊഴില്‍ക്കാര്‍ക്കും വളരെ ലാഭം വരുത്തി വന്നു.
24For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen,
25അവന്‍ അവരെയും ആ വകയില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെട്ട വേലക്കാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തിപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നമ്മുടെ സമ്പാദ്യം ഈ തൊഴില്‍കൊണ്ടു ആകുന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ബോദ്ധ്യമല്ലോ.
25whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, “Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth.
26എന്നാല്‍ ഈ പൌലൊസ് എന്നവന്‍ കയ്യാല്‍ തീര്‍ത്തതു ദേവന്മാര്‍ അല്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു എഫെസൊസില്‍ മാത്രമല്ല, മിക്കവാറും ആസ്യയില്‍ ഒക്കെയും വളരെ ജനങ്ങളെ സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു മറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടും കേട്ടും ഇരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.
26You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands.
27അതിനാല്‍ നമ്മുടെ ഈ കാര്യം ആക്ഷേപത്തില്‍ ആകുവാന്‍ അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നതുമല്ലാതെ അര്‍ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവിുടെ ക്ഷേത്രം ഏതുമില്ല എന്നു വരികയും ആസ്യമുഴുവനും ഭൂതലവും ഭജിച്ചുപോരുന്നവളുടെ മാഹാത്മ്യം ഒടുങ്ങിപ്പോകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
27Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing, and her majesty destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worships.”
28അവര്‍ ഇതു കേട്ടു ക്രോധം നിറഞ്ഞവരായിഎഫെസ്യരുടെ അര്‍ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവി എന്നു ആര്‍ത്തു.
28When they heard this they were filled with anger, and cried out, saying, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
29പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും കലഹം കൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു, അവര്‍ പൌലൊസിന്റെ കൂട്ടുയാത്രക്കാരായ ഗായൊസ് അരിസ്തര്‍ഹോസ് എന്ന മക്കെദോന്യരെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു രംഗസ്ഥലത്തേക്കു ഒരുമനപ്പെട്ടു പാഞ്ഞു ചെന്നു.
29The whole city was filled with confusion, and they rushed with one accord into the theater, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel.
30പൌലൊസ് ജനസമൂഹത്തില്‍ ചെല്ലുവാന്‍ ഭാവിച്ചാറെ ശിഷ്യന്മാര്‍ അവനെ വിട്ടില്ല.
30When Paul wanted to enter in to the people, the disciples didn’t allow him.
31ആസ്യധിപന്മാരില്‍ ചിലര്‍ അവന്റെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാര്‍ ആകയാല്‍രംഗസ്ഥലത്തു ചെന്നു പോകരുത് എന്നു അവരും അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ ആളയച്ചു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു.
31Certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent to him and begged him not to venture into the theater.
32ജനസംഘം കലക്കത്തിലായി മിക്കപേരും തങ്ങള്‍ വന്നുകൂടിയ സംഗതി എന്തെന്നു അറിയായ്കയാല്‍ ചിലര്‍ ഇങ്ങനെയും ചിലര്‍ അങ്ങനെയും ആര്‍ത്തു.
32Some therefore cried one thing, and some another, for the assembly was in confusion. Most of them didn’t know why they had come together.
33യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍ മുമ്പോട്ടു ഉന്തിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്ന അലക്സന്തരിനെ പുരുഷാരത്തില്‍ ചിലര്‍ സംസാരിപ്പാന്‍ ഉത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു; അലക്സാന്തര്‍ ആംഗ്യം കാട്ടി ജനസമൂഹത്തോടു പ്രതിവാദിപ്പാന്‍ ഭാവിച്ചു.
33They brought Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander beckoned with his hand, and would have made a defense to the people.
34എന്നാല്‍ അവന്‍ യെഹൂദന്‍ എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍എഫെസ്യരുടെ അര്‍ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവി എന്നു എല്ലാവരും കൂടി രണ്ടു മണിനേരത്തോളം ഏകശബ്ദത്തോടെ ആര്‍ത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
34But when they perceived that he was a Jew, all with one voice for a time of about two hours cried out, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
35പിന്നെ പട്ടണമേനവന്‍ പുരുഷാരത്തെ അമര്‍ത്തി പറഞ്ഞതുഎഫെസ്യപുരുഷന്മാരേ, എഫെസോസ് പട്ടണം അര്‍ത്തെമിസ് മഹാദേവിക്കും ദ്യോവില്‍നിന്നു വീണ ബിംബത്തിന്നും ക്ഷേത്രപലക എന്നു അറിയാത്ത മനുഷ്യന്‍ ആര്‍?
35When the town clerk had quieted the multitude, he said, “You men of Ephesus, what man is there who doesn’t know that the city of the Ephesians is temple keeper of the great goddess Artemis, and of the image which fell down from Zeus?
36ഇതു എതിര്‍മൊഴിയില്ലാത്തതാകയാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ തിടുക്കമായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാതെ അടങ്ങിപ്പാര്‍ക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.
36Seeing then that these things can’t be denied, you ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rash.
37ഈ പുരുഷന്മാരെ നിങ്ങള്‍ കൂട്ടികൊണ്ടുവന്നുവല്ലോ; അവര്‍ ക്ഷേത്രം കവര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യുന്നവരല്ല, നമ്മുടെ ദേവിയെ ദുഷിക്കുന്നവരുമല്ല.
37For you have brought these men here, who are neither robbers of temples nor blasphemers of your goddess.
39വേറെ കാര്യം ചൊല്ലി ആകുന്നു വാദം എങ്കില്‍ ധര്‍മ്മസഭയില തീര്‍ക്കാമല്ലോ.
38If therefore Demetrius and the craftsmen who are with him have a matter against anyone, the courts are open, and there are proconsuls. Let them press charges against one another.
40ഇന്നത്തെ കലഹത്തിന്നു കാരണമില്ലായ്കയാല്‍ അതു നിമിത്തം നമ്മുടെ പേരില്‍ കുറ്റം ചുമത്തുവാന്‍ ഇടയുണ്ടു സ്പഷ്ടം; ഈ ആള്‍ക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു ഉത്തരം പറവാന്‍ നമുക്കു വക ഒന്നുമില്ലല്ലോ.
39But if you seek anything about other matters, it will be settled in the regular assembly.
41ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു അവന്‍ സഭയയെ പിരിച്ചുവിട്ടു.
40For indeed we are in danger of being accused concerning this day’s riot, there being no cause. Concerning it, we wouldn’t be able to give an account of this commotion.”
41When he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
