1സഹോദരന്മാരും പിതാക്കന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, എനിക്കു ഇന്നു നിങ്ങളോടുള്ള പ്രതിവാദം കേട്ടുകൊള്‍വിന്‍ .
1“Brothers and fathers, listen to the defense which I now make to you.”
2എന്നാല്‍ എബ്രായഭാഷയില്‍ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു കേട്ടിട്ടു അവര്‍ അധികം മൌനമായി നിന്നു. അവന്‍ പറങ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്‍
2When they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they were even more quiet. He said,
3ഞാന്‍ കിലിക്യയവിലെ തര്‍സൊസില്‍ ജനച്ച യെഹൂദനും ഈ നഗരത്തില്‍ വളര്‍ന്നു ഗമാലിയേലിന്റെ കാല്‍ക്കല്‍ ഇരുന്നു പിതാക്കനാരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണം സൂക്ഷ്മതയോടെ അഭ്യസിച്ചവനുമാകയാല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു ഇരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ദൈവസ്വേയില്‍ എരിവുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു.
3“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict tradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are this day.
4ഞാന്‍ പുരുഷന്മാരെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും പിടിച്ചു കെട്ടി തടവില്‍ ഏല്പിച്ചും ഈ മാര്‍ഗ്ഗക്കാരെ കൊല്ലുവാനും മടി.ാതെ ഉപദ്രവിച്ചുംവന്നു.
4I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
5അതിന്നു മഹാപുരോഹിതരും മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും എനിക്കു സാക്ഷികള്‍; അവരോടു സഹോദരന്മാര്‍ക്കായി എഴുത്തു വാങ്ങിക്കൊണ്ടു ദമസ്കൊസില്‍ പാര്‍ക്കുംന്നവരെയും പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടി ദണ്ഡനത്തിന്നായി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ങാന്‍ അവിടേക്കു യാത്രയായി.
5As also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.
6അങ്ങനെ പ്രയാണം ചെയ്തു ദമസ്കൊസിനോടു അടുത്തപ്പോള്‍ ഏകദേശം ഉച്ചെക്കു പെട്ടെന്നു ആകശത്തുനിന്നു വലിയോരു വെളിച്ചം എന്റെ ചുറ്റും മിന്നി.
6It happened that, as I made my journey, and came close to Damascus, about noon, suddenly there shone from the sky a great light around me.
7ഞാന്‍ നിലത്തു വീണുശൌലേ, ശൌലെ, നീ എന്നെ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഒരു ശബ്ദം കേട്ടു.
7I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
8ഖരത്താവോ, നീ ആര്‍ എന്നു ഞാന്‍ ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുനീ ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്ന നസറായനായ യേശു ആകുന്നു ഞാന്‍ എന്നു അവന്‍ എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞു.
8I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.’
9എന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ളവര്‍ വെളിച്ചം കണ്ടു എങ്കിലും എന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നവന്റെ ശബ്ദം കേട്ടില്ല.
9“Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they didn’t understand the voice of him who spoke to me.
10കര്‍ത്താവേ ഞാന്‍ എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നു കര്‍ത്താവു എന്നോടു; എഴുന്നേറ്റു ദമസ്കൊസിലേക്കു പോക; നീ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതെല്ലാം അവിടെ നിന്നോടു പറയും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.
10I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Arise, and go into Damascus. There you will be told about all things which are appointed for you to do.’
11ആ വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ തേജസ്സു ഹേതുവായിട്ടു കണ്ണു കാണായ്കയാല്‍ കൂടെയുള്ളവര്‍ എന്നെ കൈകൂ പിടിച്ചു നടത്തി; അങ്ങനെ ഞാന്‍ ദമസ്കൊസില്‍ എത്തി.
11When I couldn’t see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.
12അവിടെ പാര്‍ക്കുംന്ന സകല യെഹൂദന്മാരാലും നല്ല സാക്ഷ്യം കൊണ്ടവനായി ന്യായപ്രമാണപ്രകാരം ഭക്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷനായ അനന്യാസ് എന്നൊരുത്തന്‍ എന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ വന്നുനിന്നു;
12One Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,
13സഹോദരനായ ശൌലെ, കാഴ്ചപ്രാപിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ആ നാഴികയില്‍ തന്നേ ഞാന്‍ കാഴ്ച പ്രാപിച്ചു അവനെ കണ്ടു.
13came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him.
14അപ്പോള്‍ അവന്‍ എന്നോടുനമ്മുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവം നിന്നെ തന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം അറിവാനും നീതിമാനായവനെ കാണ്മാനും അവന്റെ വായില്‍ നിന്നും വചന്‍ കേള്‍പ്പാനും നിയമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന.
14He said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth.
15നീ കാണ്കയും കേള്‍ക്കയും ചെയ്തതിന്നു സകലമനുഷ്യര്‍ക്കും നീ അവന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായിത്തീരും.
15For you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard.
16ഇനി താമസിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവന്റെ നാം വിളിച്ചു പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിച്ചു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങളെ കഴുകിക്കളക എന്നു പറഞഞു.
16Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
17പിന്നെ ഞാന്‍ യെരൂശലേമില്‍ മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ദൈവാലയത്തില്‍ പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുന്നേരം ഒരു വിവശതയില്‍ ആയി അവനെ കണ്ടു
17“It happened that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance,
18ന്‍ ി ബധ്ദപ്പെട്ടു വേഗം യെരൂശലേം വിട്ടുപോക; നീ എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയുന്ന സാക്ഷ്യം അവര്‍ കൈക്കൊള്‍കയില്ല എന്നു എന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചു
18and saw him saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not receive testimony concerning me from you.’
19അതിന്നു ഞാന്‍ കര്‍ത്താവേ, നിന്നില്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന്‍ നടവില്‍ ആക്കുകയും പള്ളിതോറും അടിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തു എന്നും
19I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.
20നിന്റെ സാക്ഷിയായ സ്തെഫാനൊസിന്റെ രക്തം ചൊരിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ ഞാനും സമ്മതിച്ചു അരികെ നിന്നു അവനെ കൊല്ലുന്നവരുടെ വസ്ത്രം കാത്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു എന്നും അവന്‍ അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
20When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting to his death, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.’
21അവന്‍ എന്നോടുനീ പോക; ഞാന്‍ നിന്നെ ദൂരത്തു ജാതികളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു അയക്കും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.
21“He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you out far from here to the Gentiles.’ ”
22ഈ വാക്കോളം അവര്‍ അവന്നു ചെവികൊടുത്തു; പിന്നെഇങ്ങനെത്തവനെ ഭൂമിയില്‍നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളക; അവന്‍ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതു യോഗ്യമല്ല എന്നു നിലവിളിച് പറഞ്ഞു.
22They listened to him until he said that; then they lifted up their voice, and said, “Rid the earth of this fellow, for he isn’t fit to live!”
23അവര്‍ കൂക്കലിട്ടും വസ്ത്രം കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞും പൂഴി വാരി മേലോട്ടു എറിഞ്ഞും കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍
23As they cried out, and threw off their cloaks, and threw dust into the air,
24അവര്‍ ഇങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ നേരെ ആര്‍ക്കുംവാന്‍ സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അവനോടു ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ കോട്ടയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുവാന്‍ കല്പിച്ചു.
24the commanding officer commanded him to be brought into the barracks, ordering him to be examined by scourging, that he might know for what crime they shouted against him like that.
25തന്നെ വാറു കൊണ്ടു കെട്ടുമ്പോള്‍ പൌലൊസ് അരികെ നിലക്കുന്ന ശതാധിപനോടുറോമപൌരനും വിസ്താരം കഴിയാത്തവനുമായ മനുഷ്യനെ ചമ്മട്ടി കൊണ്ടു അടിക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.
25When they had tied him up with thongs, Paul asked the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not found guilty?”
26ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ശതാധിപന്‍ ചെന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപനോടുനീ എന്തു ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ പോകുന്നു? ഈ മനുഷ്യന്‍ റോമപൌരന്‍ ആകുന്നു എന്നു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.
26When the centurion heard it, he went to the commanding officer and told him, “Watch what you are about to do, for this man is a Roman!”
27സഹസ്രാധിപന്‍ വന്നുനീ റോമപൌരന്‍ തന്നേയോ? എന്നോടു പറക എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു
27The commanding officer came and asked him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” He said, “Yes.”
28അതെ എന്നു അവന്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന്‍ ഏറിയ മുതല്‍ കൊടുത്തു ഈ പൌരത്വം സമ്പാദിച്ചു എന്നു സഹസ്രാധിപന്‍ പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഞാനോ അങ്ങനെ ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പൌലൊസ് പറഞ്ഞു.
28The commanding officer answered, “I bought my citizenship for a great price.” Paul said, “But I was born a Roman.”
29ഭേദ്യം ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ ഭാവിച്ചവര്‍ ഉടനെ അവനെ വിട്ടുമാറി; സഹസ്രാധിപനും അവന്‍ റോമപൌരന്‍ എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്‍ അവനെ ബന്ധിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.
29Immediately those who were about to examine him departed from him, and the commanding officer also was afraid when he realized that he was a Roman, because he had bound him.
30പിറ്റെന്നു യെഹൂദന്മാര്‍ പൌലൊസിന്മേല്‍ ചുമത്തുന്ന കുറ്റത്തിന്റെ സൂക്ഷമം അറിവാന്‍ ഇച്ഛിച്ചിട്ടു അവന്‍ മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരും ന്യായാധിപ സംഘം ഒക്കെയും കൂടി വരുവാന്‍ കല്പിച്ചു അവനെ കെട്ടഴിച്ചു താഴെ കൊണടുചെന്നു അവരുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ നിറുത്തി.
30But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
