1എസ്രാ ഇങ്ങനെ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്നു മുമ്പില് വീണുകിടന്നു കരഞ്ഞുപ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കയും ഏറ്റുപറകയും ചെയ്തപ്പോള് പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്ത്രീകളും പൈതങ്ങളുമായി യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു സഭ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുകൂടി; ജനവും വളരെ കരഞ്ഞു.
1Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.
2അപ്പോള് ഏലാമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില് ഒരുവനായ യെഹീയേലിന്റെ മകന് ശെഖന്യാവു എസ്രയോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനാം നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തോടു ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്തു ദേശനിവാസികളില്നിന്നു അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ഈ കാര്യത്തില് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി ഇനിയും പ്രത്യാശയുണ്ടു.
2Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, “We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
3ഇപ്പോള് ആ സ്ത്രീകളെ ഒക്കെയും അവരില്നിന്നു ജനിച്ചവരെയും യജമാനന്റെയും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പനയിങ്കല് വിറെക്കുന്നവരുടെയും നിര്ണ്ണയപ്രകാരം നീക്കിക്കളവാന് നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തോടു നാം ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്യുക; അതു ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിന്നു അനുസാരമായി നടക്കട്ടെ.
3Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.
4എഴുന്നേല്ക്ക; ഇതു നീ നിര്വ്വഹിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കാര്യം ആകുന്നു; ഞങ്ങള് നിനക്കു തുണയായിരിക്കും; ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു പ്രവര്ത്തിക്ക.
4Arise; for the matter belongs to you, and we are with you. Be courageous, and do it.”
5അങ്ങനെ എസ്രാ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ഈ വാക്കു പോലെ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെയും ലേവ്യരുടെയും പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്യരെയുംകൊണ്ടു സത്യം ചെയ്യിച്ചു; അവര് സത്യം ചെയ്തു.
5Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.
6എസ്രാ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു എല്യാശീബിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോഹാനാന്റെ അറയില് ചെന്നു പ്രവാസികളുടെ ദ്രോഹംനിമിത്തം അവന് ദുഃഖിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു അപ്പം തിന്നാതെയും വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാതെയും അവിടെ രാപാര്ത്തു.
6Then Ezra rose up from before God’s house, and went into the room of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came there, he ate no bread, nor drank water; for he mourned because of their trespass of the captivity.
7അനന്തരം അവര് സകലപ്രവാസികളും യെരൂശലേമില് വന്നുകൂടേണം എന്നു
7They made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem;
8പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെയും മൂപ്പന്മാരുടെയും നിര്ണ്ണയപ്രകാരം മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിന്നകം ആരെങ്കിലും വരാതെയിരുന്നാല് അവന്റെ വസ്തുവക ഒക്കെയും കണ്ടുകെട്ടിയെടുക്കയും അവനെ പ്രവാസികളുടെ സഭയില് നിന്നു പുറത്താക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്നും യെഹൂദയിലും യെരൂശലേമിലും പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി.
8and that whoever didn’t come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity.
9അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദയുടെയും ബെന്യാമീന്റെയും സകലപുരുഷന്മാരും മൂന്നാം ദിവസത്തിന്നകം യെരൂശലേമില് വന്നുകൂടി; അതു ഒമ്പതാം മാസം ഇരുപതാം തിയ്യതി ആയിരുന്നു; സകലജനവും ആ കാര്യം ഹേതുവായിട്ടും വന്മഴനിമിത്തവും വിറെച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ മുറ്റത്തു ഇരുന്നു.
9Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the broad place before God’s house, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.
10അപ്പോള് എസ്രാപുരോഹിതന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് ദ്രോഹംചെയ്തു യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ കുറ്റത്തെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
10Ezra the priest stood up, and said to them, “You have trespassed, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel.
11ആകയാല് ഇപ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയോടു പാപം ഏറ്റുപറകയും അവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം അനുസരിച്ചു ദേശനിവാസികളോടും അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളോടും വേര്പെടുകയും ചെയ്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
11Now therefore make confession to Yahweh, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.”
12അതിന്നു സര്വ്വസഭയും ഉറക്കെ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുനീ ഞങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞ വാക്കുപോലെ തന്നേ ഞങ്ങള് ചെയ്യേണ്ടതാകന്നു.
12Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, “As you have said concerning us, so must we do.
13എങ്കിലും ജനം വളരെയും ഇതു വര്ഷകാലവും ആകുന്നു; വെളിയില് നില്പാന് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു കഴിവില്ല; ഈ കാര്യത്തില് ഞങ്ങള് അനേകരും ലംഘനം ചെയ്തിരിക്കയാല് ഇതു ഒരു ദിവസംകൊണ്ടോ രണ്ടു ദിവസംകൊണ്ടോ തീരുന്ന സംഗതിയുമല്ല.
13But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand outside; neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.
14ആകയാല് ഞങ്ങളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് സര്വ്വസഭെക്കും പ്രതിനിധികളായി നില്ക്കട്ടെ; ഈ കാര്യം നിമിത്തം നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്നുള്ള കഠിനകോപം ഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടുമാറുവോളവും ഞങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില് അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഏവരും അവരോടുകൂടെ അവിടങ്ങളിലെ മൂപ്പന്മാരും ന്യായാധിപതിമാരും നിശ്ചയിക്കപ്പെട്ട സമയങ്ങളില് വരികയും ചെയ്യട്ടെ.
14Let now our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all those who are in our cities who have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter is resolved.”
15അതിന്നു അസാഹേലിന്റെ മകനായ യോനാഥാനും തിക്ക്വയുടെ മകനായ യഹ്സെയാവും മാത്രം വിരോധം പറഞ്ഞു; മെശുല്ലാമും ശബ്ബെഥായി എന്ന ലേവ്യനും അവരെ താങ്ങിപ്പറഞ്ഞു.
15Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
16പ്രവാസികളോ അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു, എസ്രാപുരോഹിതനെയും പിതൃഭവനം പിതൃഭവനമായി ചില പിതൃഭവനത്തലവന്മാരെയും പേരുപേരായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു, അവര് ഈ കാര്യം വിസ്തരിപ്പാന് പത്താം മാസം ഒന്നാം തിയ്യതി യോഗംകൂടി.
16The children of the captivity did so. Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers’ households, after their fathers’ houses, and all of them by their names, were set apart; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരുന്ന സകലപുരുഷന്മാരുടെയും കാര്യം അവര് ഒന്നാം മാസം ഒന്നാം തിയ്യതികൊണ്ടു തീര്ത്തു.
17They made an end with all the men who had married foreign women by the first day of the first month.
18പുരോഹിതന്മാരുടെ പുത്രന്മാരിലും അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചവരുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവരാരെന്നാല്യോസാദാക്കിന്റെ മകനായ യേശുവയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരിലും; മയശേയാവു, എലീയേസെര്, യാരീബ്, ഗെദല്യാവു എന്നിവര് തന്നേ.
18Among the sons of the priests there were found who had married foreign women: of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brothers, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19ഇവര് തങ്ങളുടെ ഭാര്യമാരെ ഉപേക്ഷിക്കാം എന്നു കയ്യടിച്ചു; അവര് കുറ്റക്കാരായതുകൊണ്ടു തങ്ങളുടെ കുറ്റത്തിന്നായി ഔരോ ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെ യാഗം കഴിച്ചു.
19They gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt.

20Of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah.
21ഹാരീമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില്മയശേയാവു, ഏലീയാവു, ശെമയ്യാവു, യെഹീയേല്, ഉസ്സീയാവു.
21Of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22പശ്ഹൂരിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില്എല്യോവേനായി, മയശേയാവു, യിശ്മായേല്, നെഥനയേല്, യോസാബാദ്, എലെയാസാ.
22Of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23ലേവ്യരില് യോസാബാദ്, ശിമെയി, കെലീതാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള കേലായാവു, പെഥഹ്യാവു, യെഹൂദാ, എലീയേസെര്.
23Of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (the same is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24സംഗീതക്കാരില്എല്യാശീബ്. വാതില്കാവല്ക്കാരില്ശല്ലൂം, തേലെം, ഊരി.
24Of the singers: Eliashib. Of the porters: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
25യിസ്രായേല്യരില്, പരോശിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില്രമ്യാവു, യിശ്ശീയാവു, മല്ക്കീയാവു, മീയാമീന് , എലെയാസാര്, മല്ക്കീയാവു, ബെനായാവു.
25Of Israel: Of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Izziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
26ഏലാമിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില്മഥന്യാവു, സെഖര്യ്യാവു, യെഹീയേല്, അബ്ദി, യെരേമോത്ത്, ഏലീയാവു.
26Of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
27സത്ഥൂവിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരില്എല്യോവേനായി, എല്യാശീബ്, മത്ഥന്യാവു, യെരേമോത്ത്, സാബാദ്, അസീസാ.
27Of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
28ബേബായിയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരില്യെഹോഹാനാന് , ഹനന്യാവു, സബ്ബായി, അഥെലായി.
28Of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

44ഇവര് എല്ലാവരും അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരുന്നു; അവരില് ചിലര്ക്കും മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ച ഭാര്യമാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
44All these had taken foreign wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
