1വേനല്‍കാലത്തു ഹിമവും കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു മഴയും എന്നപോലെ ഭോഷന്നു ബഹുമാനം പൊരുത്തമല്ല.
1Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.
2കുരികില്‍ പാറിപ്പോകുന്നതും മീവല്‍പക്ഷിപറന്നുപോകുന്നതും പോലെ കാരണം കൂടാതെ ശാപം പറ്റുകയില്ല.
2Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.
3കുതിരെക്കു ചമ്മട്ടി, കഴുതെക്കു കടിഞ്ഞാണ്‍, മൂഢന്മാരുടെ മുതുകിന്നു വടി.
3A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools!
4നീയും മൂഢനെപ്പോലെ ആകാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വംപോലെ അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറയരുതു.
4Don’t answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.
5മൂഢന്നു താന്‍ ജ്ഞാനിയെന്നു തോന്നാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്റെ ഭോഷത്വത്തിന്നു ഒത്തവണ്ണം അവനോടു ഉത്തരം പറക.
5Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6മൂഢന്റെ കൈവശം വര്‍ത്തമാനം അയക്കുന്നവന്‍ സ്വന്തകാല്‍ മുറിച്ചുകളകയും അന്യായം കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
6One who sends a message by the hand of a fool is cutting off feet and drinking violence.
7മൂഢന്മാരുടെ വായിലെ സദൃശവാക്യം മുടന്തന്റെ കാല്‍ ഞാന്നു കിടക്കുന്നതുപോലെ.
7Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8മൂഢന്നു ബഹുമാനം കൊടുക്കുന്നതു കവിണയില്‍ കല്ലു കെട്ടി മുറുക്കുന്നതുപോലെ.
8As one who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.
9മൂഢന്മാരുടെ വായിലെ സദൃശവാക്യം മത്തന്റെ കയ്യിലെ മുള്ളുപോലെ.
9Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10എല്ലാവരെയും മുറിവേല്പിക്കുന്ന വില്ലാളിയും മൂഢനെ കൂലിക്കു നിര്‍ത്തുന്നവനും കണ്ടവരെ കൂലിക്കു നിര്‍ത്തുന്നവനും ഒരുപോലെ.
10As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a fool or he who hires those who pass by.
11നായി ഛര്‍ദ്ദിച്ചതിലേക്കു വീണ്ടും തിരിയുന്നതും മൂഢന്‍ തന്റെ ഭോഷത്വം ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നതും ഒരുപോലെ.
11As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.
12തനിക്കുതന്നേ ജ്ഞാനിയെന്നു തോന്നുന്ന മനുഷ്യനെ നീ കാണുന്നുവോ? അവനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ളതിനെക്കാളും മൂഢനെക്കുറിച്ചു അധികം പ്രത്യാശയുണ്ടു.
12Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13വഴിയില്‍ കേസരി ഉണ്ടു, തെരുക്കളില്‍ സിംഹം ഉണ്ടു എന്നിങ്ങനെ മടിയന്‍ പറയുന്നു.
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!”
14കതകു ചുഴിക്കുറ്റിയില്‍ എന്നപോലെ മടിയന്‍ തന്റെ കിടക്കയില്‍ തിരിയുന്നു.
14As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.
15മടിയന്‍ തന്റെ കൈ തളികയില്‍ പൂത്തുന്നു; വായിലേക്കു തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതു അവന്നു പ്രയാസം.
15The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16ബുദ്ധിയോടെ പ്രതിവാദിപ്പാന്‍ പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ള ഏഴു പേരിലും താന്‍ ജ്ഞാനി എന്നു മടിയന്നു തോന്നുന്നു.
16The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.
17തന്നെ സംബന്ധിക്കാത്ത വഴക്കില്‍ ഇടപെടുന്നവന്‍ വഴിയെപോകുന്ന നായുടെ ചെവിക്കു പിടിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെ.
17Like one who grabs a dog’s ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18കൂട്ടുകാരനെ വഞ്ചിച്ചിട്ടു അതു കളി എന്നു പറയുന്ന മനുഷ്യന്‍
18Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death,
19തീക്കൊള്ളികളും അമ്പുകളും മരണവും എറിയുന്ന ഭ്രാന്തനെപ്പോലെയാകുന്നു.
19is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “Am I not joking?”
20വിറകു ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞാല്‍ തീ കെട്ടു പോകും; നുണയന്‍ ഇല്ലാഞ്ഞാല്‍ വഴക്കും ഇല്ലാതെയാകും.
20For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.
21കരി കനലിന്നും വിറകു തീക്കും എന്നപോലെ വഴക്കുകാരന്‍ കലഹം ജ്വലിക്കുന്നതിന്നു കാരണം.
21As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.
22ഏഷണിക്കാരന്റെ വാക്കു സ്വാദുഭോജനംപോലെ; അതു വയറ്റിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്നു.
22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.
23സ്നേഹം ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന അധരവും ദുഷ്ടഹൃദയവും വെള്ളിക്കീടം പൊതിഞ്ഞ മണ്‍കുടംപോലെയാകുന്നു.
23Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.
24പകെക്കുന്നവന്‍ അധരംകൊണ്ടു വേഷം ധരിക്കുന്നു; ഉള്ളിലോ അവന്‍ ചതിവു സംഗ്രഹിച്ചു വെക്കുന്നു.
24A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart.
25അവന്‍ ഇമ്പമായി സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവനെ വിശ്വസിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ ഏഴു വെറുപ്പു ഉണ്ടു.
25When his speech is charming, don’t believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart.
26അവന്റെ പക കപടംകൊണ്ടു മറെച്ചു വെച്ചാലും അവന്റെ ദുഷ്ടത സഭയുടെ മുമ്പില്‍ വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരും.
26His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27കുഴി കുഴിക്കുന്നവന്‍ അതില്‍ വീഴും; കല്ലു ഉരുട്ടുന്നവന്റെമേല്‍ അതു തിരിഞ്ഞുരുളും.
27Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
28ഭോഷകു പറയുന്ന നാവു അതിനാല്‍ തകര്‍ന്നവരെ ദ്വേഷിക്കുന്നു; മുഖസ്തുതി പറയുന്ന വായി നാശം വരുത്തുന്നു.
28A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin.
