¹वडिलाकडून, माझ्या प्रिय मित्र गायस ज्याच्यावर मी सत्यामध्ये प्रीति करतो त्यास,

¹The Elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth!

²माझ्या प्रिय मित्रा, जसे आध्यात्मिक जीवनात तुझे चांगले चालले आहे हे मला माहीत आहे तसेच इतर बाबतीतही तुझे चांगले चालावे आणि तुझे आरोग्य चांगले असावे अशी मी प्रार्थना करतो.

²beloved, concerning all things I desire thee to prosper, and to be in health, even as thy soul doth prosper,

³जेव्हा काही बंधु आले आणि सत्यात तू सातत्याने कसे चालतोस याविषयी त्यांनी साक्ष दिली आणि तू सत्याविषयीच्या विश्वासूपणाबद्दल मला सांगितले तेव्हा मला फार आनंद झाला.

³for I rejoiced exceedingly, brethren coming and testifying of the truth in thee, even as thou in truth dost walk;

⁴माझी मुले सत्यात चालतात हे ऐकून जितका आनंद मला होतो तितका कशानेही होत नाही.

⁴greater than these things I have no joy, that I may hear of my children in truth walking.

⁵माझ्या प्रिय मित्रा, आपल्या बंधूंच्या परक्यांच्या कल्याणासाठी जे काही करणे तुला शक्य आहे ते तू विश्वासूपणे करीत आहेस.

⁵Beloved, faithfully dost thou do whatever thou mayest work to the brethren and to the strangers,

⁶जे बंधु आले व ज्यांनी तू दाखविलेल्या प्रीतिविषयी मंडळीसमोर साक्ष दिली, त्यांच्या पुढील वाटचालीकारिता देवाला आवडेल अशा प्रकारे

⁶who did testify of thy love before an assembly, whom thou wilt do well, having sent forward worthily of God,

⁷शक्य ते सर्व कर, कारण ते ख्रिस्ताच्या सेवेसाठी दौऱ्यावर निघाले आहेत व अविश्वासणाऱ्यांकडून त्यांनी काहीही स्वीकारले नाही.

⁷because for [His] name they went forth, nothing receiving from the nations;

⁸म्हणून आम्ही विश्वासणाऱ्यांनी त्यांना मदत केलीच पाहिजे. यासाठी की आम्ही सत्यासाठी एकमेकांचे भागीदार होऊ.

⁸we, then, ought to receive such, that fellow-workers we may become to the truth.

⁹I did write to the assembly, but he who is loving the first place among them — Diotrephes — doth not receive us;

¹⁰या कारणामुळे जेव्हा मी येतो तेव्हा तो जो करीत आहे ते दाखवून देईन. तो वाईट शब्दांनी खोटेपणाने माझ्याविरुद्ध बोलत आहे व एवढ्यावरच तो समाधान मानीत नाही, तर त्यात भर म्हणून बंधूंचा तो स्वीकार करीत नाहीच उलट मंडळीतील जे लोक त्यांचा स्वीकार करु इच्छितात त्यांना अडथळा करतो, आणि त्यांना मंडळीबाहेर घालवितो!

¹⁰because of this, if I may come, I will cause him to remember his works that he doth, with evil words prating against us; and not content with these, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and those intending he doth forbid, and out of the assembly he doth cast.

¹¹माझ्या प्रिय मित्रा, जे चांगले आहे त्याचे अनुकरण कर. वाइटाचे अनुकरण करु नको. जे चांगले आहे ते जो करतो, तो देवाचा आहे. जो वाईट करतो त्याने देवाला पाहिले नाही.

¹¹Beloved, be not thou following that which is evil, but that which is good; he who is doing good, of God he is, and he who is doing evil hath not seen God;

¹²प्रत्येक जण देमेत्रियाविषयी चांगली साक्ष देतात व सत्यदेखील तसेच सांगते. आणि आम्ही देखील त्याच्याविषयी तसेच म्हणतो, आणि तुम्हांला माहीत आहे की, आमची साक्ष खरी आहे.

¹²to Demetrius testimony hath been given by all, and by the truth itself, and we also — we do testify, and ye have known that our testimony is true.

¹³मला तुला पुष्कळ गोष्टी लिहावयाच्या आहेत पण मला शाई व लेखणीने तुला लिहावे असे वाटत नाही.

¹³Many things I had to write, but I do not wish through ink and pen to write to thee,

¹⁴त्याऐवजी, तुला लवकर भेटण्याची मला आशा आहे. मग आपल्याला समोरासमोर बोलता येईल.

¹⁴and I hope straightway to see thee, and mouth to mouth we shall speak. Peace to thee! salute thee do the friends; be saluting the friends by name.
