¹त्यांचा निरोप घेतल्यानंतर आम्ही समुद्रमार्गे निघालो. आणि सरळ प्रवास करीत कोस येथे आलो. दुसऱ्या दिवशी आम्ही रुदास गेलो. तेथून आम्ही पातरा येथे गेलो.

¹And it came to pass, at our sailing, having been parted from them, having run direct, we came to Coos, and the succeeding [day] to Rhodes, and thence to Patara,

²तेथे फेनीकेला जाणारे जहाज आम्हांला आढळले. तेव्हा आम्ही जहाजात बसून पुढे निघालो.

²and having found a ship passing over to Phenicia, having gone on board, we sailed,

³तेव्हा कुप्र आमच्या नजरेत आले. परंतु ते डाव्या अंगाला टाकून आम्ही थेट सूरीया देशाला रवाना झालो व सोर येथे उतरलो. कारण तेथे जहाजातील माल उतरावययाचा होता.

³and having discovered Cyprus, and having left it on the left, we were sailing to Syria, and did land at Tyre, for there was the ship discharging the lading.

⁴तेथे येशूचे काही शिष्य आम्हाला आढळले, आणि आम्ही त्यांच्याबरोबर सात दिवस राहिलो. पवित्र आत्म्याच्या सूचनेवरुन त्यांनी पौलाला असे सांगितले की, त्याने यरुशलेमला जाऊ नये.

⁴And having found out the disciples, we tarried there seven days, and they said to Paul, through the Spirit, not to go up to Jerusalem;

⁵आमच्या भेटीचे दिवस संपत आल्यावर आम्ही तेथून निघून आमचा पुढील प्रवास परत सुरु केला. त्यावेळी तेथील बंधुजन आपल्या पत्नी, मुलांच्याबरोबर आमच्यासह शहरबाहेर आले व तेथील समुद्रकिनाऱ्यावर आम्ही गुडघे टेकले व प्रार्थना केली.

⁵but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

⁶मग एकमेकांचा निरोप घेऊन आम्ही जहाजात बसलो व ते लोक आपापल्या घरी गेले.

⁶and having embraced one another, we embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own friends.

⁷सोर पासून आम्ही आमचा प्रवास सुरु केला व पोलेमा येथे उतरलो. आणि तेथील बंधुवर्गास भेटलो, त्यांच्याबरोबर एक दिवस राहिलो.

⁷And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;

⁸आणि दुसऱ्या दिवशी निघून आम्ही कैसरीयास आलो व सुवार्तिक फिलिप्प याच्या घरी जाऊन राहिलो. तो निवडलेल्या सात सेवकांपैकी एक होता.

⁸and on the morrow Paul and his company having gone forth, we came to Cesarea, and having entered into the house of Philip the evangelist — who is of the seven — we remained with him,

⁹त्याला चार मुली होत्या. त्यांची लग्रे झालेली नव्हती. या मुलींना देवाच्या गोष्टी (भविष्याविषयीचे) सांगण्याचे दान होते.

⁹and this one had four daughters, virgins, prophesying.

¹⁰त्या बंधूच्या बरोबर बरेच दिवस राहिल्यावर अगब नावाचा संदेष्टा यहूदीयाहून तेथे आला.

¹⁰And we remaining many more days, there came down a certain one from Judea, a prophet, by name Agabus,

¹¹त्याने आमची भेट घेऊन पौलाच्या कमरेचा पट्टा मागून घेतला. त्याने स्वत:चे हात व पाय बांधले आणि तो म्हणाला, “पवित्र आत्मा असे महणतो; हा पट्टा ज्या मनुष्याच्या कमरेचा आहे, त्याला यरुशलेमा येथील यहूदी लोक असेच बांधतील व यहूदीतरांच्या हाती देतील.”

¹¹and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, `Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle — so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver [him] up to the hands of nations.`

¹²आम्ही व तेथील सर्वांनी ते शब्द ऐकले. तेव्हा आम्ही व इतर लोकांनी पौलाला कळकळीची विनंति केली की, त्याने यरुशलेमला जाऊ नये.

¹²And when we heard these things, we called upon [him] — both we, and those of that place — not to go up to Jerusalem,

¹³पण पौल म्हणाला, “तुम्ही हे काय करीत आहा, असे रडून तुम्ही मला हळवे बनवीत आहात काय? मी फक्त बांधून घेण्यासाठी नव्हे तर प्रभु येशूच्या नावासाठी यरुशलेममध्ये मरायलादेखील तयार आहे.”

¹³and Paul answered, `What do ye — weeping, and crushing mine heart? for I, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, am ready, for the name of the Lord Jesus;`

¹⁴यरुशलेमापासून दूर राहण्यासाठी आम्ही त्याचे मन वळवू शकलो नाही, म्हणून आम्ही त्याला विनंति करायची सोडली आणि म्हटले, “प्रभूच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे होवो.”

¹⁴and he not being persuaded, we were silent, saying, `The will of the Lord be done.`

¹⁵त्यानंतर आम्ही तयार झालो आणि यरुशलेमला निघालो.

¹⁵And after these days, having taken [our] vessels, we were going up to Jerusalem,

¹⁶कैसरीया येथील येशूचे काही शिष्य आमच्याबरोबर आले आणि आम्हांला म्लासोनकडे घेऊन गेले. कारण त्याच्याकडेच आम्ही राहणार होतो. तो (म्नासोन) कुप्रचा होता. तो सुरुवातीच्या काळात प्रथम शिष्य झालेल्यांपैकी एक होता.

¹⁶and there went also of the disciples from Cesarea with us, bringing with them him with whom we may lodge, a certain Mnason of Cyprus, an aged disciple.

¹⁷आम्ही जेव्हा यरुशलेमला पोहोंचलो, तेव्हा तेथील बंधुजनांनी मोठ्या आनंदाने आमचे स्वागत केले.

¹⁷And we having come to Jerusalem, the brethren did gladly receive us,

¹⁸दूसऱ्या दिवशी पौल आमच्यासह याकोबाला भेटायला आला. तेव्हा सर्व वडीलजन हजर होते.

¹⁸and on the morrow Paul was going in with us unto James, all the elders also came,

¹⁹पौल त्यांना भेटला. नंतर त्याच्या हातून देवाने यहूदीतर लोकांत कशीकशी सेवा करुन घेतली, याविषयी क्रमवार सविस्तर माहिती सांगितली.

¹⁹and having saluted them, he was declaring, one by one, each of the things God did among the nations through his ministration,

²⁰जेव्हा त्यांनी हे ऐकले तेव्हा त्यांनी देवाचा गौरव केला. आणि ते त्याला म्हणाले, “बंधु, तू पाहशील की हजारो यहूदी विश्वासणारे झालेत. पण त्यांना असे वाटते की, मोशेचे नियम पाळणे फार महत्वाचे आहे.

²⁰and they having heard, were glorifying the Lord. They said also to him, `Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law,

²¹या यहूदी लोकांनी तुइयाविषयी ऐकले आहे की, जे यहूदी इतर देशांत राहतात त्यांना तू मोशेचे नियम पाळू नका असे सांगतोस. तसेच आपल्या मुलांची सुंता करु नका असे सांगतो व आपल्या चालीरीति पाळू नका असे सांगतो.

²¹and they are instructed concerning thee, that apostacy from Moses thou dost teach to all Jews among the nations, saying — Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

²²मग आता काय केले पाहिजे? तू येथे आला आहेस हे त्यांना नक्की कळेल.

²²what then is it? certainly the multitude it behoveth to come together, for they will hear that thou hast come.

²³तेव्हा आता आम्ही सांगतो तसे कर: आमच्यातील चार लोकांनी नवस केला आहे.

²³`This, therefore, do that we say to thee: We have four men having a vow on themselves,

²⁴त्या चौघांना घे व स्वत:चे त्यांच्यासह शुद्धीकरण करुन घे. त्या चौघांना त्यांच्या डोक्याचे मुंडण करता यावे म्हणून त्यांचा खर्च तू कर. मग सर्वांना हे समजेल की, त्यांनी जे काही तुझ्याबद्दल ऐकले आहे ते खरे नाही, उलट तू नियमशास्त्राचे पालन करतोस हे दिसेल.

²⁴these having taken, be purified with them, and be at expence with them, that they may shave the head, and all may know that the things of which they have been instructed concerning thee are nothing, but thou dost walk — thyself also — the law keeping.

²⁵जे विदेशी विश्वासणारे आहेत त्यांना आम्ही पत्र लिहिले आहे. ते असे ʅमूर्तीला वाहिलेले अन्न त्यांनी खाऊ नये. रक्त अगर गुदमरुन मारलेले प्राणी त्यांनी खाऊ नयेत अनैतिक कृत्ये करु नयेत.”ʆ

²⁵`And concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, having given judgment, that they observe no such thing, except to keep themselves both from idol-sacrifices, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom.`

²⁶मग पौलानेच त्या चार लोकांना आपल्याबरोबर घेतले. दुसऱ्या दिवशी शुद्धीकरणाच्या विधीमध्ये तो सहभागी झाला. मग तो मंदिरात गेला. शुद्धीकरणाचे दिवस केव्हा संपतील हे जाहीर केले. शेवटच्या दिवशी प्रत्येकासाठी अर्पण देण्यात येईल.

²⁶Then Paul, having taken the men, on the following day, with them having purified himself, was entering into the temple, announcing the fulfilment of the days of the purification, till the offering was offered for each one of them.

²⁷सात दिवस जवळ जवळ संपत आले होते. परंतु आशियातील काही यहूदी लोकांनी पौलाला मंदिरात पाहिले. त्यानी लोकांना भडकाविले व त्याला (पौलाला) धरले.

²⁷And, as the seven days were about to be fully ended, the Jews from Asia having beheld him in the temple, were stirring up all the multitude, and they laid hands upon him,

²⁸ते मोठ्याने ओरडून म्हणाले, “इस्राएलच्या लोकांनो, मदत करा! हाच तो मनुष्य आहे, जो सर्व लोकांना सगळीकडे आपल्या लोकांविरुद्ध, आपल्या नियमांविरुद्ध व या जागेबद्दल शिकवीत आहे, आणि आता त्याने विदेशी लोकांना देखील मंदिरात आणले आहे, आणि ही पवित्र जागा विटाळविली आहे.”

²⁸crying out, `Men, Israelites, help! this is the man who, against the people, and the law, and this place, all everywhere is teaching; and further, also, Greeks he brought into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place;`

²⁹ते असे म्हणाले, कारण इफिसच्या त्रफिमला त्यांनी पौलाबरोबर यरुशलेम येथे पाहिले होते. त्रफिम यहूदी नव्हता, तो ग्रीक होता. लोकांना वाटले, पौलानेच त्याला मंदिरात नेले आहे.

²⁹for they had seen before Trophimus, the Ephesian, in the city with him, whom they were supposing that Paul brought into the temple.

³⁰सर्व शहर खवळून उठले. सगळे लोक धावू लागले. त्यांनी पौलाला पकडले व मंदिरातून बाहेर ओढून काढले. लगेच दारे बंद करण्यात आली.

³⁰All the city also was moved and there was a running together of the people, and having laid hold on Paul, they were drawing him out of the temple, and immediately were the doors shut,

³¹ते त्याला ठार मारण्याचा प्रयत्न करीत असतानाच रोमी सैन्याच्या सरदाराकडे बातमी गेली की, शहरात सगळीकडे गोंधळ उडालेला आहे.

³¹and they seeking to kill him, a rumour came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem hath been thrown into confusion,

³²ताबडतोब त्याने काही शिपाई व काही शताधिपती घेतले. व तो यहूदी जेथे पौलाला मारीत होते, तेथे धावत गेला. जेव्हा यहूदी लोकांनी रोमी सरदाराला व सैन्याला पाहिले तेव्हा त्यांनी पौलाला मारण्याचे थांबविले.

³²who, at once, having taken soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them, and they having seen the chief captain and the soldiers, did leave off beating Paul.

³³मग सरदार पौलाकडे आला व त्याला अटक केली व त्याला साखळदंडानी बांधण्याचा आदेश दिला. मग सरदाराने पौल कोण आहे व त्याने काय केले आहे याविषयी विचारले.

³³Then the chief captain, having come nigh, took him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains, and was inquiring who he may be, and what it is he hath been doing,

³⁴गर्दितून वेगवेगळ्या प्रकारचे आवाज ऐकू येऊ लागले. गोंधळामुळे व ओरडण्यामुळे सरदारला सत्य काय आहे हे जाणून घेता येईना. म्हणून सरदाराने शिपायांना हुकूम दिला की, पौलाला इमारतीत घेऊन जावे.

³⁴and some were crying out one thing, and some another, among the multitude, and not being able to know the certainty because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried to the castle,

³⁵जेव्हा पौल इमारतीच्या पायऱ्यांजवळ आला तेव्हा शिपायांना त्याला उचलून आत न्यावे लागले.

³⁵and when he came upon the steps, it happened he was borne by the soldiers, because of the violence of the multitude,

³⁶कारण जमाव हिंसक बनत चालला होता. जमाव त्याच्यामागे चालला होता व ओरडत होता, “त्याला जिवे मारा!”

³⁶for the crowd of the people was following after, crying, `Away with him.`

³⁷शिपाई पौलाला इमारतीत घेऊन जाणार इतक्यात पौल सरदाराला म्हणाला, “मी काही बोलू शकतो काय?” तो सरदार म्हणाला, “तुला ग्रीक बोलता येते काय?

³⁷And Paul being about to be led into the castle, saith to the chief captain, `Is it permitted to me to say anything unto thee?` and he said, `Greek dost thou know?

³⁸मग मला वाटते, तो मनुष्य तू नाहीस, मला वाटले इजिप्तच्या ज्या मजुराने काही दिवसांपूर्वी बंड करुन सरकारला त्रास देण्याचा प्रयत्न केला, तोच तू आहेस. त्या इजिप्तच्या मनुष्यांने चार हजार दहशतवाद्यांना अरण्यात नेले.”

³⁸art not thou, then, the Egyptian who before these days made an uprising, and did lead into the desert the four thousand men of the assassins?`

³⁹पौल म्हणाला, “किलकिया प्रांतातील तार्सज्ञ नगरात राहणारा मी एक यहूदी आहे. मी एका महत्वाच्या शहराचा नागरिक आहे. मी तुम्हांला विनवितो, मला लोकांशी बोलू द्या.”

³⁹And Paul said, `I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, of Tarsus of Cilicia, of no mean city a citizen; and I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.`

⁴⁰जेव्हा सरदाराने त्याला बोलण्याची परवानगी दिली तेव्हा तो पायऱ्यांवर उभा राहिला आणि आपल्या हाताने त्याने लोकांना शांत राहण्यास सांगितले. जेव्हा सगळीकडे शांतता पसरली तेव्हा पौल हिब्रू भाषेत बोलू लागला:

⁴⁰And he having given him leave, Paul having stood upon the stairs, did beckon with the hand to the people, and there having been a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
