¹अग्रिप्पा पौलाला म्हणाला, “तुला तुझी बाजू मांडायला परवानगी आहे.” यावर पौलाने आपला हात उंच करुन आपल्या बचावाचे भाषण सुरु केले:

¹And Agrippa said unto Paul, `It is permitted to thee to speak for thyself;` then Paul having stretched forth the hand, was making a defence:

²“अग्रिप्पा महाराज, मी स्वत:ला धन्य समजतो कारण मला आपल्यासमोर माइयाविरुद्ध केलेल्या आरोपांचा बचाव करण्याची संधि आज मिळाली.

²`Concerning all things of which I am accused by Jews, king Agrippa, I have thought myself happy, being about to make a defence before thee to-day,

³विशेषत: यहूदी चालीरीति आणि प्रश्न इत्यादी गोष्टींची आपणांला चांगल्या प्रकारे माहिती असल्याने तर हे जास्तच खरे म्हणावे लागेल. तेव्हा आपण माझे बोलणे धीराने ऐकून घ्यावे अशी मी विनंति करतो.

³especially knowing thee to be acquainted with all things — both customs and questions — among Jews; wherefore, I beseech thee, patiently to hear me.

⁴“मी माझे जीवन तरुणपणापासून माइया प्रांतात व यरुशलेमात कशा रीतिने जगत आलो हे सर्व यहूदी लोकांना चांगले माहीत आहे.

⁴`The manner of my life then, indeed, from youth — which from the beginning was among my nation, in Jerusalem — know do all the Jews,

⁵ते मला बऱ्याच काळापासून ओळखतात. आणि त्यांची इच्छा असेल तर मी एक परुशी म्हणजे आमच्या यहूदी धर्माच्या एका कट्टर गटाचा सभासद या नात्याने कसा जगत आलो याविषयी ते साक्ष देऊ शकतील.

⁵knowing me before from the first, (if they may be willing to testify,) that after the most exact sect of our worship, I lived a Pharisee;

⁶आता मी आमच्या वाडवडिलांना देवाने जे वचन दिले होते, त्याच्या आशेकरिता माझा न्याय व्हावा याशाठी येथे उभा आहे.

⁶and now for the hope of the promise made to the fathers by God, I have stood judged,

⁷आपल्या देवाची रात्रंदिवस कळकळीने उपासना करीत असताना हे जे वचन देवाने दिले ते पुरे होण्याची आशा आमच्या बाराही वंशाना वाटत आहे. या आशेमुळेच महाराज, यहूदी लोक माझ्यावर दोषारोप करीत आहेत.

⁷to which our twelve tribes, intently night and day serving, do hope to come, concerning which hope I am accused, king Agrippa, by the Jews;

⁸देव मेलेल्यांना परत उठवितो, असे तुमच्यापैकी कित्येकांना विश्वास न ठेवण्यासारखे का वाटावे.

⁸why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead?

⁹नासरेथच्या येशूच्या नावाविरुद्ध जे जे काही करता येईल ते ते मी करावे असे मलादेखील वाटत होते.

⁹`I, indeed, therefore, thought with myself, that against the name of Jesus of Nazareth it behoved [me] many things to do,

¹⁰आणि नेमके हेच मी यरुशलेम येथे केले. कारण मुख्य याजकांकडून मला तसा अधिकार मिळाला होता. म्हणून मी देवाच्या अनेक संतांना तुरुंगात टाकले, आणि हे जे संतगण जिवे मारले गेले, त्यांच्याविरुद्ध मी माझे मत नोंदविले.

¹⁰which also I did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I in prison did shut up, from the chief priests having received the authority; they also being put to death, I gave my vote against them,

¹¹अनेक सभास्थानात मी त्यांना शिक्षा केली. आणि देवाविरुद्ध जबरीने वाईट भाषण करायला लावण्याचा मी प्रयत्न केला, या लोकांवरील माझा राग इतक्या पराकोटीला गेला होता की, मी त्यांचा छळ करण्याकरिता इतर शहरांमध्ये देखील जात असे.

¹¹and in every synagogue, often punishing them, I was constraining [them] to speak evil, being also exceedingly mad against them, I was also persecuting [them] even unto strange cities.

¹²“एकदा दिमिष्क शहराला जाण्यासाठी मुख्य याजकांनी मला अधिकार व परवानगी दिली तेव्हा महाराज,

¹²`In which things, also, going on to Damascus — with authority and commission from the chief priests —

¹³वाटेत भर दुपारच्या वेळी मी माइया व माझ्यासमवेत असणाऱ्यांच्या भोवती स्वर्गीय प्रकाश फाकलेला पाहिला. तो प्रकाश सूर्यापेक्षाही जास्त प्रखर होता.

¹³at mid-day, I saw in the way, O king, out of heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me a light — and those going on with me;

¹⁴आम्ही सर्व खाली जमिनीवर पडलो आणि हिब्रू भाषेत माइयाशी बोलताना एक वाणी मी ऐकली. ती वाणी म्हणाली, ‘शौला, शौला, माझा छळ तू का करतोस? अणुकुचीदार काठीवर लाथ मारणे तुला हानिकारक आहे,’

¹⁴and we all having fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew dialect, Saul, Saul, why me dost thou persecute? hard for thee against pricks to kick!

¹⁵आणि मी म्हणालो, ‘प्रभु, तू कोण आहेस?’ प्रभूने उत्तर दिले, ‘मी येशू आहे, ज्याचा तू छळ करीत आहेस.

¹⁵`And I said, Who art thou, Lord? and he said, I am Jesus whom thou dost persecute;

¹⁶पण ऊठ आणि उभा राहा! या कारणांसाठी मी तुला दर्शन दिले आहे: तुला सेवक म्हणून नेमावे व जे काही तुला दाखविले व जे दाखवीन त्याचा साक्षीदार म्हणून तुला नेमावे.

¹⁶but rise, and stand upon thy feet, for for this I appeared to thee, to appoint thee an officer and a witness both of the things thou didst see, and of the things [in which] I will appear to thee,

¹⁷मी तुझी यहूदी व यहूदीतर विदेशी यांच्यापासून सुटका करीन. आणि यहूदीतर विदेशी लोकांकडे पाठवीन.

¹⁷delivering thee from the people, and the nations, to whom now I send thee,

¹⁸यासाठी की, त्यांचे डोळे उघडावे व याविषयीचे सत्य काय आहे हे तू लोकांना दाखवून द्यावेस व त्यामुळे त्यांना त्यांच्या पापांची क्षमा मिळेल आणि माइयामध्ये विश्वासामुळे पवित्र झालेल्या लोकांमध्ये जागा मिळेल.”‘

¹⁸to open their eyes, to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the authority of the Adversary unto God, for their receiving forgiveness of sins, and a lot among those having been sanctified, by faith that [is] toward me.

¹⁹यासाठी, “अग्रिप्पा महाराज मला जो स्वर्गीय दृष्टान्त झाला, त्याचा मी आज्ञाभंग केला नाही.

¹⁹`Whereupon, king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

²⁰उलट पहिल्यांदा दिमिष्कातील आणि नंतर यरुशलेमातील, यहूदा प्रांतातील सर्व आणि यहूदीतर विदेशी लोकांनासुद्धा प्रभुच्या वचनाची साक्ष दिली. त्यांनी पश्चात्ताप करावा, देवाकडे वळावे आणि पश्चात्तापाला साजेल अशी कामे करावी असे मी त्यांना सांगितले.

²⁰but to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem, to all the region also of Judea, and to the nations, I was preaching to reform, and to turn back unto God, doing works worthy of reformation;

²¹या कारणांमुळे मी मंदिरात असताना यहूदी लोकांनी मला धरले आणि जिवे मारण्याचा प्रयत्न केला. परंतु देवाने मला मदत केली म्हणून मी आज येथे उभा राहून समाजातील लहानथोरांना साक्ष देत आहे.

²¹because of these things the Jews — having caught me in the temple — were endeavouring to kill [me].

²²जे काही पुढे होणार होते, त्याविषयी संदेष्ट्यांनी व मोशेने जे सांगितले त्यापेक्षा दुसरे मी सांगत नाही.

²²`Having obtained, therefore, help from God, till this day, I have stood witnessing both to small and to great, saying nothing besides the things that both the prophets and Moses spake of as about to come,

²³त्यानुसार देवाचा अभिषिक्त जो ख्रिस्त (मशीहा) तो दु:ख सहन करील. आणि मेलेल्यांतून उठविला जाणाऱ्यांत तो पाहिला असेल. यहूदी लोकांना तसेच इतर विदेशी लोकांना देव प्रकाशात नेईल.”

²³that the Christ is to suffer, whether first by a rising from the dead, he is about to proclaim light to the people and to the nations.`

²⁴पौल आपल्या बचावासंबंधी बोलत असताना फेस्त त्याला मोठ्याने म्हणाला, “पौला, तू वेडा आहेस, जास्त ज्ञानामुळे तुला वेड लागले आहे!”

²⁴And, he thus making a defence, Festus with a loud voice said, `Thou art mad, Paul; much learning doth turn thee mad;`

²⁵पौलाने उत्तर दिले, “फेस्त महाराज, मी वेडा नाही; तर ज्या गोष्टी खऱ्या आहेत आणि अगदी योग्य आहेत, त्यांच्याविषयीच मी बोलत आहे.

²⁵and he saith, `I am not mad, most noble Festus, but of truth and soberness the sayings I speak forth;

²⁶येथे हजर असलेल्या महाराजांना याविषयी चांगली माहिती आहे, आणि यामुळे मी त्यांच्याशी उघडपणाने बोलू शकतो. त्याच्या ध्यानातून काही सुटले नसेल, असे मला खात्रीने वाटते. मी हे म्हणतो, कारण ही गोष्ट एखाद्या कानाकोपऱ्यात झाली नाही.

²⁶for the king doth know concerning these things, before whom also I speak boldly, for none of these things, I am persuaded, are hidden from him; for this thing hath not been done in a corner;

²⁷अग्रिप्पा महाराज, भविष्यावाद्यांनी जे लिहिले त्यावर तुमचा विश्वास आहे काय? तुमचा त्यावर विश्वास आहे हे मला नक्की माहीत आहे.”

²⁷thou dost believe, king Agrippa, the prophets? I have known that thou dost believe!`

²⁸यावर अग्रिप्पा म्हणाला, “एवढ्या थोड्या वेळात ख्रिस्ती होण्यासाठी तू माझे मन वळवू शकशील असे तुला वाटते काय?”

²⁸And Agrippa said unto Paul, `In a little thou dost persuade me to become a Christian!`

²⁹पौलाने उत्तर दिले, “थोड्या वेळात म्हणा अगर जास्त वेळात म्हणा, मी जसा आहे तसे केवळ तुम्हीच नव्हे तर आज जे जे येथे बसून माझे बोलणे ऐकत आहेत त्या सर्वांनी माझ्यासारखे या साखळदंडाखेरीज, विश्वास ठेवणारे व्हावे, अशी माझी देवाला नम्र विनंति आहे.”

²⁹and Paul said, `I would have wished to God, both in a little, and in much, not only thee, but also all those hearing me to-day, to become such as I also am — except these bonds.`

³⁰यानंतर राजा, बर्णीका, राज्यपाल आणि त्यांच्याबरोबर इतर जे तेथे बसले होते, ते सर्व उठले.

³⁰And, he having spoken these things, the king rose up, and the governor, Bernice also, and those sitting with them,

³¹ते न्यायालयातून बाहेर पडल्यावर एकमेकांशी बोलत होते. ते म्हणाले, “ज्यामुळे तुरुंगवास किंवा मरणदंड द्यावा असे काहीही या मनुष्याने केले नाही.”

³¹and having withdrawn, they were speaking unto one another, saying — `This man doth nothing worthy of death or of bonds;`

³²अग्रिप्पा फेस्तला म्हणाला, “या मनुष्याने कैसराकडे न्याय मागितला नसता, तर त्याला सोडून देता आले असते.”

³²and Agrippa said to Festus, `This man might have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.`
