¹मला परमेश्वराचे शब्द ऐकू आले. तो म्हणाला.

¹And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

²“मानवपुत्रा, तुझ्या माणसांशी बोल त्यांना सांग, ‘ह्या देशावर हल्ला करण्यासाठी कदाचित्, मी शत्रूसैनिकांना आणीन. त्या वेळेस लोक एकाला पहारेकरी म्हणून निवडतील.

²`Son of man, speak unto the sons of thy people, and thou hast said unto them: A land — when I bring in against it a sword, And the people of the land have taken one man out of their borders, And made him to them for a watchman.

³पहारेकऱ्याने शत्रूसैनिकांस येताना पाहिल्यास, तो तुतारी फुंकून लोकांना सावध करतो.

³And he hath seen the sword coming against the land, And hath blown with a trumpet, and hath warned the people,

⁴जर लोकांनी तुतारीचा आवाज ऐकूनही त्याकडे दुर्लक्ष केले, तर शत्रू त्यांना पकडतील व कैदी म्हणून घेऊन जातील. अशा वेळी मृत्यूला ज्याचा तोच जबाबदार असेल.

⁴And the hearer hath heard the voice of the trumpet, and he hath not taken warning, And come in doth the sword, and taketh him away, His blood is on his head.

⁵जर एखाद्याने तुतारीचा आवाज ऐकूनही दुर्लक्ष केले. तर त्याच्या मृत्यूची जबबादारी त्याची त्याच्यावरच असेल. तो जर तुतारीच्या आवाजाने सावध झाला असता, तर वाचू शकला असता.

⁵The voice of the trumpet he heard, And he hath not taken warning, his blood is on him, And he who took warning his soul hath delivered.

⁶“पण, कदाचित्, असेही होईल की शत्रूसैनिकांना पाहूनही पहारेकरी तुतारी फुंकणार नाही. त्याने लोकांना सावध न केल्याने, शत्रूसैनिक त्यांना पकडतील व कैदी म्हणून घेऊन जातील. त्यांनी पाप केले होते म्हणून ते पकडले जातील हे खरे, पण जर ते ठार मारले गेले, तर त्यांच्या मृत्यूला पहारेकरीही जबाबदार असेल.’

⁶And the watchman, when he seeth the sword coming in, And he hath not blown with a trumpet, And the people hath not been warned, And come in doth a sword, And taketh away of them — a soul, He in his iniquity is taken away, And his blood from the hand of the watchman I require.

⁷“आता, मानवपुत्रा, इस्राएल लोकांचा पहारेकरी म्हणून मी तुझी निवड करीत आहे. माझ्याकडून संदेश मिळताच, माझ्यावतीने तू लोकांना जागृत केलेच पाहिजेस.

⁷And thou, son of man, A watchman I gave thee to the house of Israel, And thou hast heard from My mouth a word, And thou hast warned them from Me.

⁸मी कदाचित् तुला सांगीन ‘हा दुष्ट मनुष्य मरेल,’ तर तू माझ्यावतीने त्याच्याकडे जाऊन त्याला सावध केलेच पाहिजेस. जर तू त्या दुष्ट माणसाकडे जाऊन त्याला सावध केले नाहीस, त्याचा मार्ग बदलण्याबद्दल त्याला सांगितले नाहीस, तर त्याच्या पापामुळे तो मरेल, पण त्याच्या मृत्यूची जबाबदारी तुझ्यावरही येईल.

⁸In My saying to the wicked, O wicked one — thou dost surely die, And thou hast not spoken to warn the wicked from his way, He — the wicked — in his iniquity doth die, And his blood from thy hand I require.

⁹पण तू त्या पाप्यास सावध करुन कुमार्ग सोडून सन्मार्ग धरण्यास सांगितलेस आणि त्याने ह्यास नकार दिला, तर तो माणूस त्याच्या पापामुळे मरेल. पण तू वाचशील.

⁹And thou, when thou hast warned the wicked of his way, to turn back from it, And he hath not turned back from his way, He in his iniquity doth die, And thou thy soul hast delivered.

¹⁰“मानवपुत्रा, माझ्यावतीने इस्राएलच्या लोकांशी बोल. कदाचित्. ते लोक म्हणतील, ‘आम्ही पाप केले. नियम मोडले आमची पापे आम्हाला बोजा झाली आहेत. आमच्या पापांनी आम्ही सडलो आता जगण्यासाठी आम्ही काय करावे?’

¹⁰And thou, son of man, say unto the house of Israel: Rightly ye have spoken, saying: Surely our transgressions and our sins [are] on us, And in them we are wasting away, How, then, do we live?

¹¹“मी शपथपूर्वक सांगतो ‘दुष्टांचे मरण मी इच्छिले नव्हते. मला त्यांनी मरावे असे अजिबात वाटत नाही. त्या पापी लोकांनी परत माझ्याकडे यावे असे मला वाटते. त्यांनी आपला मार्ग बदलावा म्हणजे त्यांना खरोखरीचे जीवन जगता येईल. तेव्हा माझ्याकडे परत या. दुष्कृत्ये करायचे सोडा. इस्राएलच्या लोकांनो, तुम्ही का मरावे?’ असे परमेश्वर, माझा प्रभू, म्हणतो, असे तू त्या लोकांना सांगितले पाहिजेस.

¹¹Say unto them, I live — an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, I delight not in the death of the wicked, But — in the turning of the wicked from his way, And he hath lived, Turn back, turn back, from your evil ways, Yea, why do ye die, O house of Israel?

¹²“मानवपुत्रा, तू तुझ्या लोकांना असेही सांग ‘जर एखादा सज्जन कुमार्गाला लागून पाप करु लागला, तर त्याने पूर्वी केलेल्या चांगल्या गोष्टी त्याला वाचवू शकणार नाहीत. तसेच एखादा पापापासून परावृत झाला, तर त्याची भूतकाळातील पापे त्याचा नाश करु शकणार नाहीत. तेव्हा लक्षात ठेवा, पूर्वी केलेली सत्कृत्ये, आता तुम्ही दुष्कत्ये करु लागल्यास तुम्हाला वाचविणार नाहीत.’

¹²And thou, son of man, say unto the sons of thy people: The righteousness of the righteous doth not deliver him in the day of his transgression, And the wickedness of the wicked, He doth not stumble for it in the day of his turning from his wickedness, And the righteous is not able to live in it in the day of his sinning.

¹³“कदाचित् मी सज्जन माणसाला ‘तो जगेल’ असे सांगीन. पण त्यामुळे त्याला ‘आपण पूर्वी केलेली सत्कृत्ये आपल्याला वाचवतील असे वाटेल. म्हणून तो पाप करु लागेल, तर त्याची पूर्वीची सत्कृत्ये मी स्मरणार नाही. तो पाप करु लागल्याने तो मरेल.’

¹³In My saying of the righteous: He surely liveth, And — he hath trusted on his righteousness, And he hath done perversity, All his righteous acts are not remembered, And for his perversity that he hath done, For it he doth die.

¹⁴“किंवा मी दुष्टाला ‘तू मरशील’ असे सांगीन. पण तो कदाचित त्याचा जीवनमार्ग बदलेल. तो पाप करण्याचे सोडून देऊन चांगल्या रीतीने जगू लागेल. तो सज्जन व प्रामाणिक होईल.

¹⁴And in My saying to the wicked: Thou surely diest, And — he hath turned back from his sin, And hath done judgment and righteousness,

¹⁵त्याने कर्ज देताना गहाण म्हणून ठेवून घेतलेल्या वस्तू तो कदाचित परत करेल. त्याने चोरलेल्या वस्तूंची किंमत तो चुकती करील. जीवनातील नियमाप्रमाणे तो चालू लागेल, तो वाईट गोष्टी करण्याचे सोडून देईल, तर तो नक्कीच जगेल. तो मरणार नाही.

¹⁵(The pledge the wicked restoreth, plunder he repayeth,) In the statutes of life he hath walked, So as not to do perversity, He surely liveth — he doth not die.

¹⁶त्याने पूर्वी केलेली पापे मी स्मरणार नाही. का? कारण आता तो योग्य रीतीने जगत आहे, तो प्रामाणिक झाला आहे. तेव्हा तो जगेल.

¹⁶None of his sin that he hath sinned is remembered to him, Judgment and righteousness he hath done, He doth surely live.

¹⁷“पण तुझी माणसे म्हणतात, ‘हे योग्य नाही, परमेश्वर, माझा प्रभू, असा असूच शकत नाही.’ “पण ते लोक प्रामाणिक नाहीत. त्यांनी बदललेच पाहिजे.

¹⁷And the sons of thy people have said: The way of the Lord is not pondered, As to them — their way is not pondered.

¹⁸जर सज्जन सत्कृत्ये सोडून दुष्कृत्ये करु लागला, तर त्याच्या पापामुळे तो मरेल.

¹⁸In the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, And he hath done perversity — he dieth for it.

¹⁹आणि जर दुष्टाने पाप करण्याचे सोडून दिले, तो चांगले जीवन जगू लागला, प्रामाणिक झाला, तर तो जगेल.

¹⁹And in the turning back of the wicked from his wickedness, And he hath done judgment and righteousness, by them he liveth.

²⁰पण मी न्यायी नाही असे तुम्ही अजूनही म्हणता. पण मी तुम्हाला सत्य सांगत आहे. इस्राएलच्या लोकांनो, प्रत्येकाच्या कर्मांचा मी न्याय करीन.”

²⁰And ye have said: The way of the Lord is not pondered, Each according to his ways do I judge you, O house of Israel.`

²¹परागंदा अवस्थेच्या बाराच्या वर्षाच्या दहाव्या महिन्याच्या (जानेवारी महिन्याच्या) पाचव्या दिवशी यरुशलेममधून एक माणूस माझ्याकडे आला. तो तेथील लढाईतून निसटून आला होता. तो म्हणाला, “नगरी (यरुशलेम) काबीज केली गेली.”

²¹And it cometh to pass, in the twelfth year — in the tenth [month], in the fifth of the month — of our removal, come in unto me doth one who is escaped from Jerusalem, saying, `The city hath been smitten.`

²²तो माणूस येण्यापूर्वीच्या संध्याकाळी परमेश्वराचे, माझ्या प्रभूचे, सामर्थ्य माझ्यावर आले. देवाने मला मुके केले. पण तो माणूस येण्याच्या वेळी परमेश्वराने मला वाचा दिली व बोलण्यास प्रवृत्त केले.

²²And the hand of Jehovah hath been unto me in the evening, before the coming in of the escaped one, and He openeth my mouth till the coming in unto me in the morning, and opened is my mouth, and I have not been silent again.

²³मग मला परमेश्वराचा संदेश मिळाला. तो म्हणाला,

²³And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

²⁴“मानवपुत्रा, इस्राएलच्या विद्ध्वंस झालेल्या गावांतून इस्राएली राहात आहेत. ते म्हणतात, ‘अब्राहाम एकटा असताना देवाने त्याला ही सर्व भूमी दिली. आता, आम्ही पुष्कळ आहोत आणि ही भूमी नक्कीच आमची आहे. ही आमच्या मालकीची आहे.’

²⁴`Son of man, the inhabitants of these wastes on the ground of Israel are speaking, saying: Alone hath been Abraham — and he possesseth the land, and we [are] many — to us hath the land been given for a possession.

²⁵“तू त्यांना सांग की परमेश्वर, माझा प्रभू, पुढील गोष्टी सांगतो ‘तुम्ही रक्तासकट मांस खाता. तुम्ही मदतीकरिता तुमच्या मूर्तीकडे पाहता. तुम्ही लोकांचे खून करता. मग मी तुम्हाला ही भूमी का द्यावी?

²⁵Therefore say unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: With the blood ye do eat, And your eyes ye lift up unto your idols, And blood ye shed, and the land ye inherit!

²⁶तुम्ही तुमच्या स्वत:च्या तलवारीवर अवलंबून राहता. तुमच्यातील प्रत्येकजण भयानक कृत्ये करतो. शेजाऱ्याच्या बायकोबरोबर व्यभिचार करुन पाप करतो, तेव्हा तुम्हाला भूमी मिळू शकत नाही.’

²⁶Ye have stood on your sword, Ye have done abomination, Each the wife of his neighbour ye have defiled, And the land ye possess!

²⁷“तू त्यांना सांगितले पाहिजेस की परमेश्वर, माझा प्रभू म्हणतो, “माझी शपथ घेऊन प्रतिज्ञा करतो की त्या नाश झालेल्या गावांत राहणारे लोक तलवारीने मारले जातील. जर एखादा शेतांत असेल. तर मी त्याला प्राण्याकडून मारीन व त्या प्राण्याचे तो भक्ष्य होईल. जर लोक गडात वा गुहेत लपले असतील, तर ते रोगराईने मरतील.

²⁷Thus dost thou say unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: I live — do not they who [are] in the wastes by the sword fall? And they who [are] on the face of the field, To the beast I have given for food, And they who are in strongholds and in caves by pestilence die.

²⁸मी ती भूमी ओसाड व निर्जन करीन. त्या देशाला अभिमानास्पद असणाऱ्या सर्व गोष्टी गमवाव्या लागतील. इस्राएलचे पर्वत ओसाड होतील. तेथून कोणीही जाणारसुद्धा नाही.

²⁸And I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, And ceased hath the excellency of its strength, And desolated have been mountains of Israel, Without any one passing through.

²⁹त्या लोकांनी खूप भयानक कृत्ये केली आहेत. म्हणून मी ती भूमी एक निर्जन, ओसाड प्रदेश करीन. मग ह्या लोकांना कळेल की मीच परमेश्वर आहे.”

²⁹And they have known that I [am] Jehovah, In My making the land a desolation and an astonishment, For all their abominations that they have done.

³⁰“आणि, मानवपुत्रा, आता तुझ्याबद्दल तुझे लोक भिंतीला टेकून, त्यांच्या दारांत उभे राहून, तुझ्याबद्दल बोलतात, ते एकमेकांना म्हणतात “चला, परमेश्वर काय म्हणतो ते जाऊन ऐकू या.”

³⁰And thou, son of man, the sons of thy people who are speaking about thee, By the walls, and in openings of the houses, Have spoken one with another, each with his brother, Saying: Come in, I pray you, And hear what [is] the word that cometh out from Jehovah.

³¹म्हणून ते माझे लोक असल्यासारखे तुझ्याकडे येतात. ते माझे लोक असल्याप्रमाणे ते करणार नाहीत. ते त्यांना भावते तेच करु इच्छितात. ते लोकांना फसवून खूप पैसा मिळवू बघतात.

³¹And they come in unto thee as the coming in of a people, And they sit before thee — My people, And have heard thy words, and they do them not, For doting loves with their mouth they are making, After their dishonest gain their heart is going.

³²“तू त्यांच्या दृष्टीने प्रेमगीते गाणारा फक्त एक गायक आहेस. तुझा गळा गोड आहे. तू तुझे वाद्य उत्तम वाजवितोस. ते तुझे फक्त ऐकतात पण त्याप्रमाणे ते करणार नाहीत.

³²And lo, thou [art] to them as a singer of doting loves, A pleasant voice, and playing well on an instrument, And they have heard thy words, and they are not doing them.

³³पण तू गात असलेल्या गोष्टी खरोखरच घडतील. मगच लोकांना कळेल की त्यांच्यामध्ये खरोखरच एक संदेष्टा राहात होता.”

³³And in its coming in — lo, it hath come, And they have known that a prophet hath been in their midst!`
