¹जर तू आकाश फाडून खाली पृथ्वीवर उतरलास तर प्रत्येक गोष्ट बदलेल. डोंगर तुझ्यासमोर वितळतील.

¹Didst Thou not rend the heavens? Thou didst come down, From thy presence did mountains flow,

²जळणाऱ्या झुडुपांप्रमाणे डोंगर जळतील. विस्तवावरच्या पाण्याप्रमाणे डोंगराला उकळी फुटेल. मग तुझ्या शत्रूंना तुझ्याबद्दल कळेल. तुला पाहिल्याबरोबर सर्व राष्ट्रे भीतीने कापू लागतील.

²(As fire kindleth stubble — Fire causeth water to boil,) To make known Thy name to Thine adversaries, From Thy presence do nations tremble.

³पण तू हे करावेस असे आम्हाला खरोखरच वाटत नाही. डोंगर तुझ्यासमोर वितळतील.

³In Thy doing fearful things — we expect not, Thou didst come down, From Thy presence did mountains flow.

⁴तुझ्या लोकांनी, खरोखर कधीच, तुझे ऐकले नाही, तू सांगितलेल्या गोष्टींकडे कधीच खरोखर लक्ष दिले नाही. कोणीही तुझ्यासारखा देव अजून पाहिला नाही. तुझ्याशिवाय दुसरा देव नाही-फक्त तूच आहेस. लोकांनी संयम पाळल्यास आणि तुझ्या मदतीची वाट पाहिल्यास, तू त्यांच्यासाठी महान गोष्टी करशील.

⁴Even from antiquity [men] have not heard, They have not given ear, Eye hath not seen a God save Thee, He doth work for those waiting for Him.

⁵जे लोक सत्कृत्यात आनंद मानतात, त्यांच्याबरोबर तू असतोस. ते लोक तुझ्या चालीरीतींची आठवण ठेवतात. पण देवा, पूर्वी आम्ही तुझ्याविरूध्द जाऊन पाप केले म्हणून तू आमच्यावर रागावलास. आता, आमचे रक्षण कसे होणार?

⁵Thou hast met with the rejoicer And the doer of righteousness, In Thy ways they remember Thee, Lo, Thou hast been wroth when we sin, By them [is] continuance, and we are saved.

⁶आम्ही सगळे पापांनी मळीन झालो आहोत. आमचा सर्व चांगुलपणा जुन्या मळलेल्या कपड्यांप्रमाणे आहे. आम्ही सर्व पिकल्या पानांप्रमाणे आहोत. आमच्या पापांनी आम्हाला, वारा जसा पाचोळा दूर वाहून नेतो, तसे दूर नेले आहे.

⁶And we are as unclean — all of us, And as a garment passing away, all our righteous acts; And we fade as a leaf — all of us. And our iniquities as wind do take us away.

⁷आम्ही तुझी उपासना करत नाही. आम्ही तुझ्या नांवावर विश्वास ठेवत नाही. तुला अनुसरण्यासाठी आम्ही उत्सुक नाही म्हणून तू आमच्याकडे पाठ फिरविलीस. आम्ही तुझ्यापुढे असहाय्य आहोत. कारण आम्ही पापी आहोत.

⁷And there is none calling in Thy name, Stirring up himself to lay hold on Thee, For Thou hast hid Thy face from us, And thou meltest us away by our iniquities.

⁸पण, परमेश्वरा, तू आमचा पिता आहेस. आम्ही मातीप्रमाणे आहोत आणि तू कुंभार आहेस. तुझ्या हातांनी आम्हाला घडविले आहे.

⁸And now, O Jehovah, thou [art] our Father, We [are] the clay, and Thou our Framer, And the work of Thy hand — all of us.

⁹परमेश्वरा, सतत आमच्यावर रागावू नकोस. आमची पापे कायमची लक्षात ठेवू नकोस. कृपया आमच्याकडे लक्ष दे. आम्ही तुझी माणसे आहोत.

⁹Be not wroth, O Jehovah, very sore, Nor for ever remember iniquity, Lo, look attentively, we beseech Thee, Thy people [are] we all.

¹⁰तुझ्या पवित्र नगरी ओस पडल्या आहेत. त्या आता वाळवंटाप्रमाणे झाल्या आहेत. सियोनचे वाळवंट झाले आहे. यरूशलेमचा नाश झाला आहे.

¹⁰Thy holy cities have been a wilderness, Zion a wilderness hath been, Jerusalem a desolation.

¹¹आमचे पवित्र मंदिर जाळले गेले आहे. ते आमच्या दृष्टीने महान होते. आमच्या पूर्वजांनी तेथे तुझी पूजा केली. आमच्या सर्व चांगल्या गोष्टींचा आता नाश झाला आहे.

¹¹Our holy and our beautiful house, Where praise Thee did our fathers, Hath become burnt with fire, And all our desirable things have become a waste.

¹²तुझे आमच्याबद्दलचे प्रेम दाखविण्यापासून, ह्या गोष्टी, तुला नेहमीच दूर ठेवतील का? तू असाच सतत गप्प राहशील का? तू कायमच आम्हाला शिक्षा करशील का?

¹²For these dost Thou refrain Thyself, Jehovah? Thou art silent, and dost afflict us very sore!`
