1पारसचा राजा दारयावेश याच्या कारकिर्दींच्या चौथ्या वर्षांच्या नवव्या माहिन्याच्या (किसलेव महिन्याच्या) चौथ्या दिवशी, जखऱ्याला परमेश्वराकडून संदेश आला.
1And it cometh to pass, in the fourth year of Darius the king hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, in the fourth of the ninth month, in Chisleu.
2बेथेलच्या लोकांनी शरेसर, रगेम्मेलेक व त्यांची माणसे यांना परमेश्वराकडे एक प्रश्न विचारायला पाठविले.
2And Beth-El sendeth Sherezer and Regem-Melech, and its men, to appease the face of Jehovah,
3ते संदेष्ट्यांकडे आणि सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरातील याजकाकडे आणि सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरातील याजकाकडे गेले आणि त्यांनी पुढील प्रशन विचारला: “मंदिराच्या नाशाबद्दल आम्ही गेली कित्येक वर्षे शोक प्रकट करीत आलो आहोत. प्रत्येक वर्षाच्या पाचव्या महिन्यात आम्ही शोक प्रकट करण्यासाठी आणि उपवासासाठी खास वेळ देत आलो आहोत. हे आम्ही असेच चालू ठेवायचे का?”
3speaking unto the priests who [are] at the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and unto the prophets, saying, `Do I weep in the fifth month — being separated — as I have done these so many years?`
4मला सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वराकडून पुढील संदेश मिळाला:
4And there is a word of Jehovah of Hosts unto me, saying:
5“याजकांना आणि या देशातील इतर लोकांना सांग की तुम्ही 70 वर्षे प्रत्येक वर्षांच्या पाचव्या आणि सातव्या महिन्यात उपवास केलात व शोक प्रकट केलात. पण हा उपवास खरोखरीच माझ्यासाठी होता का? नाही!
5`Speak unto all the people of the land, and unto the priests, saying:
6तुम्ही खाल्ले - प्यायले ते माझ्यासाठी होते का? नाही ते तुमच्याचसाठी होते.
6When ye fasted with mourning in the fifth and in the seventh [months] — even these seventy years — did ye keep the fast [to] Me — Me? And when ye eat, and when ye drink, is it not ye who are eating, and ye who are drinking?
7याच गोष्टी सांगण्यासाठी देवाने फार पूर्वीच या आधीच्या संदेष्ट्यांचा उपयोग केला होता. जेव्हा यरुशलेम ही एक भरभराट झालेली आणि लोकांनी गजबजलेली नगरी होती, तेव्हादेखील देवाने ह्याच गोष्टी सांगितल्या होत्या. यरुशलेमच्या भोवतालच्या गावात, नेगेवला व पश्चिमेकडील डोंगरपायथ्याशी जेव्हा लोकवस्ती होती, तेव्हादेखील देवाने हीच वचने सांगितली हीती.”
7`Are not [these] the words that Jehovah proclaimed by the hand of the former prophets, in Jerusalem`s being inhabited, and [in] safety, and its cities round about it, and the south and the plain — abiding?`
8परमेश्वराचा जखऱ्याला पुढीलप्रमाणे संदेश आहे:
8And there is a word of Jehovah unto Zechariah, saying:
9सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वर असे म्हणतो की “जे योग्य व न्याय्य आहे तेच तुम्ही करा. एकमेकांवर दया करा. एकमेकांना करुणा दाखवा.
9`Thus spake Jehovah of Hosts, saying: True judgment judge ye, And kindness and mercy do one with another.
10विधवा, अनाथ, परके व गरीब यांना दुखवू नका. एकमेकांचे वाईट करण्याचे मनातसुध्दा आणू नका.”
10And widow, and fatherless, Sojourner, and poor, ye do not oppress, And the calamity of one another ye do not devise in your heart.
11पण त्या लोकांनी ऐकण्याचे नाकारले. देवाला पाहिजे ते करण्यास नकार दिला. देवाची वाणी ऐकू येऊ नये म्हणून त्यांनी आपले कान झाकून घेतले.
11And they refuse to attend, And they give a refractory shoulder, And their ears have made heavy against hearing.
12ते अतिशय दुराग्रही बनले. ते नियम पाळीनान. सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वराने आपल्या आत्म्याचा उपयोग करुन संदेष्ट्यांमार्फत त्याच्या लोकांना संदेश पाठविले. पण लोक ऐकेनात. तेव्हा सर्व शक्तिमान परमेश्वर कोपला.
12And their heart they have made adamant, Against hearing the law, and the words, That Jehovah of Hosts sent by His Spirit, By the hand of the former prophets, And their is great wrath from Jehovah of Hosts.
13मग तो म्हणाला, “मी त्यांना आवाहन केले पण त्यांनी प्रतिसाद दिला नाही. आता, त्यांनी माझा धावा केल्यास, मी ओ देणार नाही.
13And it cometh to pass, as He called, And they have not hearkened, So do they call, and I do not hearken, Said Jehovah of Hosts.
14एखाद्या झंझावाताप्रमाणे मी इतर राष्ट्रांना त्यांच्याविरुध्द उठवीन. ज्या राष्ट्रांची त्यांना माहिती नव्हती, अशी राष्ट्रे देशावर आक्रमण करुन त्यांचा नाश करतील आणि हे प्रसन्न राष्ट्र नाश पावेल.”
14And I toss them on all the nations, That they have not known, The land hath been desolate behind them, Of any passing by and turning back, And they set a desirable land for a desolation!
