¹एफ्राईमच्या डोंगराळ प्रदेशातील रामा येथला, एलकाना नावाचा एक गृहस्थ होता. हा एलकाना सूफ घराण्यातला असून यरोहाम (किंवा यरामील) याचा मुलगा. यरोहाम एलिहूचा मुलगा आणि एलिहू तोहूचा. तोहू, एफ्राईम घराण्यातील सूफचा मुलगा होय.

¹Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:

²एलकानाला दोन बायका होत्या. एकीचे नाव हन्ना आणि दुसरीचे पनिन्ना. पनिन्नाला मुलंबाळं होती, पण हन्नाला मात्र अजून मूल झाले नव्हते.

²and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

³एलकाना दरवर्षी रामा या आपल्या गावाहून शिलो येथे जात असे. तेथे तो यज्ञ आणि सर्वशक्तीमान परमेश्वराची भक्ती करत असे. तेथे हफनी आणि फिनहास हे एलीचे मुलगे याजक म्हणून पौरोहित्य करीत होते.

³This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

⁶Her rival provoked her severely, to make her fret, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.

⁷असे दरवर्षी चालायचे. शिलो येथील परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात सर्व कुटुंबीय जमले की पनिन्नाच्या बोलण्यामुळे हन्ना कष्टी होई. एकदा असेच एलकाना यज्ञ करीत असताना हन्ना दु:खीकष्टी होऊन रडू लागली. ती काही खाईना.

⁷As he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Yahweh, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

⁸एलकाना ते पाहून म्हणाला, “तू का रडतेस? तू का खात नाहीस? तू का दु:खी आहेस? तुला मी आहे-मी तुझा नवरा आहे. तू असा विचार कर की मी दहा मुलांपेक्षा अधिक आहे.”

⁸Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

⁹सर्वांचे खाणे पिणे झाल्यावर हन्ना गूपचूप उठली आणि परमेश्वराची प्रार्थना करायला गेली. एली हा याजक तेव्हा परमेश्वराच्या पवित्रस्थानाच्या दरवाजाजवळ आपल्या आसनावर बसला होता.

⁹So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

¹⁰She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, and wept bitterly.

¹¹परमेश्वराला ती एक नवस बोलली. ती म्हणाली, “हे सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वरा, माझे दु:ख तू बघतोच आहेस. माझा विसर पडू देऊ नकोस. तू मला मुलगा दिलास तर मी तो तुलाच अर्पण करीन. तो परमेश्वराचा नाजीर होईल. तो मद्यपान करणार नाही. त्याचे आम्ही जावळ काढणार नाही.”

¹¹She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

¹²हन्नाची प्रार्थना बराच वेळ चालली होती. त्यावेळी एलीचे तिच्या तोंडाकडे लक्ष होते.

¹²It happened, as she continued praying before Yahweh, that Eli saw her mouth.

¹³ती मनोमन प्रार्थना करत होती त्यामुळे तिचे ओठ हलत होते पण शब्द बाहेर फुटत नव्हते. त्यामुळे ती दारुच्या नशेत आहे असे एलीला वाटले.

¹³Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

¹⁴एली तिला म्हणाला, “तू फार प्यायलेली दिसतेस. आता मद्यापासून दूर राहा.”

¹⁴Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you.”

¹⁵हन्ना म्हणाली, “महाशय, मी कोणतेही मद्य घेतलेले नाही. मी अतिशय त्रासलेली आहे. परमेश्वराला मी माझी सर्व गाऱ्हाणी सांगत होते.

¹⁵Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

¹⁶मी वाईट बाई आहे असे समजू नका. मी फार व्यभित आहे, मला फार दु:खं आहेत म्हणून मी खूप वेळ प्रार्थना करीत होते इतकंच.”

¹⁶Don’t count your handmaid for a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

¹⁷तेव्हा एली म्हणाला, “शांती ने जा. इस्राएलाच्या देवाकडे जे मागणे तू केले आहे ते तो तुला देवो.”

¹⁷Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

¹⁹दुसऱ्या दिवशी पहाटे उठून परमेश्वराची भक्ती करुन एलकानाचे कुटुंबीय रामा येथे आपल्या घरी परतले. पुढे एलकाना आणि हन्नाचा संबंध आला तेव्हा परमेश्वराला तिचे स्मरण झाले.

¹⁹They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Yahweh, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

²⁰यथावकाश तिला दिवस राहिले व मुलगा झाला. हन्नाने त्याचे नाव शमुवेल ठेवले. ती म्हणाली, “मी परमेश्वराकडे त्याला मागितले म्हणून त्याचे नाव शमुवेल.”

²⁰It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for “heard by God.” saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

²¹एलकाना त्या वर्षी यज्ञ करण्यासाठी आणि देवाला बोललेले नवस फेडण्यासाठी शिलो येथे सहकुटुंब गेला

²¹The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

²²But Hannah didn’t go up; for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”

²³हन्नाचा पती एलकाना त्यावर म्हणाला, “तुला योग्य वाटेल तसे कर. तो खायला लागेपर्यंत तू हवी तर घरीच राहा. परमेश्वराने दिलेला आशीर्वाद खरा ठरो “. तेव्हा हन्ना घरीच राहिली कारण शमुवेल अंगावर पीत होता. त्याचे दूध तुटेपर्यंत ती राहिली.

²³Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.

²⁴तो पुरेसा मोठा झाल्यावर हन्ना त्याला शिलो येथे परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात घेऊन आली. तिने तीन वर्षाचा एक गोऱ्हा वीस पौंड पीठ आणि द्राक्षरसाचा बुधला हे ही आणले.

²⁴When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

²⁵ते सर्व परमेश्वरासमोर गेले. एलकानाने नेहमी प्रमाणे परमेश्वरासमोर गोऱ्ह्याचा बळी दिला. मग हन्नाने मुलाला एलीच्या स्वाधीन केले.

²⁵They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.

²⁶ती एलीला म्हणाली “महाशय, माझ्यावर कृपादृष्टी असू द्या मी खरे तेच सांगते. मीच इथे तुमच्याजवळ बसून पूर्वी परमेश्वराजवळ याचना केली होती.

²⁶She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.

²⁷परमेश्वराकडे मी मुलगा मागितला आणि परमेश्वराने माझी इच्छा पूर्ण केली. परमेश्वराने हा मुलगा मला दिला.

²⁷For this child I prayed; and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.

²⁸आता मी तो परमेश्वराला अर्पण करते. तो आयुष्यभर परमेश्वराची सेवा करील.” हन्नाने मग मुलाला तिथेच ठेवले आणि परमेश्वराची भक्ती केली.

²⁸Therefore also I have granted him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is granted to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.
