¹It happened after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

²Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria. Behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).

³Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

⁴Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help from Yahweh. They came out of all the cities of Judah to seek Yahweh.

⁵यहोशाफाट परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात नवीन अंगणासमोर होता. यहूदा आणि यरुशलेमच्या लोकांमध्ये तो उभा राहिला.

⁵Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Yahweh, before the new court;

⁶तो म्हणाला, “आमच्या पूर्वजांच्या परमेश्वर देवा, स्वर्गातील परमेश्वर तूच आहेस. सर्व राष्ट्रांमधल्या सर्व राज्यांचा तूच शास्त्ता आहेस. सगळे सामर्थ्य आणि सत्ता तुझ्या ठायी आहे. कोणीही तुझ्याविरुध्द जाऊ शकत नाही.

⁶and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

⁷तूच आमचा परमेश्वर आहेस या प्रदेशातील रहिवाश्यांना तू हाकलून लावलेस. तुझ्या या इस्राएलांदेखतच तू हे केलेस. तुझा मित्र अब्राहाम याच्या वंशजांना तू ही भूमी कायमची बहाल केलीस.

⁷Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?

⁸अब्राहामाचे वंशज या प्रदेशात राहिले आणि तुझ्या नावाखातर त्यांनी मंदिर बांधले.

⁸They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying,

⁹‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’

¹⁰Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and didn’t destroy them;

¹¹पण तेव्हाच त्यांच्या नायनाट न केल्याचे हे काय फळ मिळाले पाहा, ते आम्हाला आमच्या प्रदेशातून हुसकावून लावायला निघाले आहेत. हा प्रदेश तू आम्हाला बहाल केला आहेस.

¹¹behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.

¹²Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

¹³All Judah stood before Yahweh, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

¹⁴Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly;

¹⁵यहजीएल म्हणाला, “राजा यहोशाफाट, तसेच यहूदा आणि यरुशलेममधील रहिवाश्यांनो, मी काय म्हणतो ते ऐका. परमेश्वराचा संदेश असा आहे. ‘एवढी मोठी सेना पाहून घाबरुन जाऊ नका किंवा काळजी करु नका. हे युध्द तुमचे नव्हे तर परमेश्वराचे युध्द आहे.

¹⁵and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus says Yahweh to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

¹⁶उद्या त्यांचा सामना करायला जा आणि लढा. ते सीसच्या खिंडीतून वर येत आहेत. दरीच्या टोकाला यरुएल वाळवंटाच्या दुसऱ्या बाजूला तुमची त्यांच्याशी गाठ पडेल.

¹⁶Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

¹⁷You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’”

¹⁸यहोशाफाटने मस्तक भूमीपर्यंत लववले. यहूदा आणि यरुशलेममधील सर्व लोक यांनी परमेश्वरापुढे दंडवत घातले. त्या सर्वांनी परमेश्वराची आराधना केली.

¹⁸Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh.

¹⁹The Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice.

²⁰They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, so you shall be established! Believe his prophets, so you shall prosper.”

²¹यहोशाफाटने लोकांना प्रोत्साहन दिले व सुचना दिल्या.परमेश्वराचे स्तवन करणारी माणसे त्याने निवडली. परमेश्वर पवित्र आणि कल्याणकारी आहे म्हणून त्याचे स्तवन करण्यासाठी त्याने या गायकांना नेमले. त्यानी सैन्यासमोर उभे राहून स्तुतिगीते म्हटली. ते म्हणाले, “परमेश्वराने स्तवन करा कारण त्याची प्रीति सर्वकाळ आहे.”

²¹When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who should sing to Yahweh, and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.

²²लोकांनी देवाची स्तुतिगीते म्हणण्यास सुरुवात केल्याबरोबर परमेश्वराने चाल करुन आलेल्या अम्मोनी, मवाबी आणि सेइर पर्वतांतील लोकांशी गनिमी काव्याने लढणारी फौज मोक्याच्या जागी बसवली.

²²When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck.

²³अम्मोनी आणि मवाबी लोक सेइर पर्वतातल्या लोकांशी लढू लागले. अम्मोन्यांनी आणि मवाब्यांनी त्यांचा पुरता संहार केला. सेइरातल्या लोकांचा बीमोड केल्यानंतर त्यांनी एकमेकांचा नाश केला.

²³For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to kill and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy another.

²⁴यहूदा लोक वाळवंटातील टेहळणीच्या बुरुजापाशी आले. शत्रूचे विशाल सैन्य कुठे दिसते का हे ते पाहू लागले पण त्यांना फक्त जमिनीवर विखुरलेले मृतदेह तेवढे दिसले. कोणीही जिवंत राहिला नव्हता.

²⁴When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped.

²⁵When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their spoil, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much.

²⁶On the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Beracah; for there they blessed Yahweh: therefore the name of that place was called The valley of Beracah to this day.

²⁷मग यहोशाफाटने समस्त यहूदा आणि यरुशलेम लोकांना यरुशलेम येथे माघारे नेले. परमेश्वराने त्यांच्या शत्रूचा पाडाव केल्यामुळे त्यांच्यात आनंदीआनंद पसरला होता.

²⁷Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in their forefront, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for Yahweh had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

²⁸यरुशलेमला येऊन ते सतारी, वीणा व कर्णे घेऊन परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात गेले.

²⁸They came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets to the house of Yahweh.

²⁹परमेश्वराने इस्राएलच्या शत्रु सैन्याशी लढा दिला हे ऐकून सर्व देशांमधल्या सर्व राज्यांमध्ये परमेश्वराविषयी धाक निर्माण झाला.

²⁹The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that Yahweh fought against the enemies of Israel.

³⁰त्यामुळे यहोशाफाटच्या राज्यात शांतता नांदली. देवाने यहोशाफाटला सर्व बाजूंनी स्वास्थ्य दिले.

³⁰So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet; for his God gave him rest all around.

³¹यहोशाफाटने यहूदा देशावर राज्य केले. राज्यावर आला तेव्हा तो पस्तीस वर्षांचा होता. त्याने यरुशलेमवर पंचवीस वर्षे राज्य केले. यहोशाफाटच्या आईचे नाव अजूबा ही शिल्हीची मुलगी.

³¹Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

³²आपले वडील आसा यांच्याप्रमाणेच यहोशाफाट योग्य मार्गाने वागला. तो मार्ग सोडला नाही. परमेश्वराच्या दृष्टीने भले तेच यहोशाफाटने केले.

³²He walked in the way of Asa his father, and didn’t turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh.

³³पण उच्चस्थाने काढण्यात आली नव्हती. लोकांनीही आपले मन आपल्या पूर्वजांच्या परमेश्वराकडे वळवले नव्हते.

³³However the high places were not taken away; neither as yet had the people set their hearts to the God of their fathers.

³⁴“हनानीचा पुत्र येहू याच्या बखरीमध्ये यहोशाफाटच्या बाकीच्या कृत्यांची साद्यंंत नोंद आहे. ‘इस्राएलच्या राजांचा इतिहास’ या ग्रंथातही या गोष्टींचा समावेश करुन त्यांची नोंद केली आहे.

³⁴Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Jehu the son of Hanani, which is inserted in the book of the kings of Israel.

³⁵इस्राएलचा राजा अहज्या याच्याशी पुढे यहूदाचा राजा यहोशाफाट याने करार केला. यहोशाफाट ने हे वाईट केले.

³⁵After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. The same did very wickedly:

³⁶and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in Ezion Geber.

³⁷Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, Yahweh has destroyed your works.” The ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
