¹राजा योशीयाने यरुशलेमात परमेश्वराप्रीत्यर्थ वल्हांडणाचा उत्सव केला. पहिल्या महिन्याच्या चौदाव्या दिवशी वल्हांडणाचा यज्ञपशू कापला गेला.

¹Josiah kept a Passover to Yahweh in Jerusalem: and they killed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

²रमेश्वराच्या मंदिराची कामे पार पाडण्यासाठी योशीयाने याजक नेमले आणि त्यांच्या कार्यात त्यांना प्रोत्साहन दिले.

²He set the priests in their offices, and encouraged them to the service of the house of Yahweh.

³राएल लोकांना शिक्षण देणाऱ्या आणि परमेश्वराच्या सेवेसाठी शुचिर्भूत होणाऱ्या लेव्यांना योशीया म्हणाला, “दावीद पुत्र शलमोनाने बांधलेल्या या मंदिरात पवित्र करारकोश ठेवा. दावीद इस्राएलचा राजा होता. यापुढे पवित्र करारकोश वारंवार खांद्यावरुन वाहू नका. परमेश्वर देवाची सेवा करा. देवाची प्रजा म्हणजे इस्राएलचे लोक त्यांची सेवा करा.

³He said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to Yahweh, “Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David king of Israel built. There shall no more be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve Yahweh your God, and his people Israel.

⁴पापल्या घराण्यांप्रमाणे तुमचा जो क्रम ठरला आहे त्यानुसार मंदिरातील सेवेसाठी सिध्द व्हा. राजा दावीद आणि त्याचा मुलगा राजा शलमोन यांनी आखून दिल्याप्रमाणे आपापली कर्तव्ये पार पाडा.

⁴Prepare yourselves after your fathers’ houses by your divisions, according to the writing of David king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon his son.

⁵पापल्या घराण्यांच्या वर्गवारीप्रमाणे, भाऊबंदांबरोबर पवित्र स्थानी उभे राहा. म्हणजे तुम्हाला आपापसात सहकार्य करता येईल.

⁵Stand in the holy place according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of your brothers the children of the people, and let there be for each a portion of a fathers’ house of the Levites.

⁶ल्हांडणाचे यज्ञपशू कापा, परमेश्वरासाठी स्वत:चे पवित्रीकरण करा. इस्राएल बांधवांसाठी यज्ञपशू तयार ठेवा. परमेश्वराच्या आज्ञेप्रमाणे सर्व काही यथासांग पार पाडा. या आज्ञा परमेश्वराने आपल्याला मोशेमार्फत दिल्या आहेत.”

⁶Kill the Passover, and sanctify yourselves, and prepare for your brothers, to do according to the word of Yahweh by Moses.”

⁷वल्हांडणासाठी योशीयाने 30,000 शेरडे मेंढरे यज्ञपशू म्हणून इस्राएल लोकांना दिली. या खेरीज 3000 बैल दिले. हे पशुधन त्याच्या खाजगी मालमत्तेतील होते.

⁷Josiah gave to the children of the people, of the flock, lambs and young goats, all of them for the Passover offerings, to all who were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bulls: these were of the king’s substance.

⁸His princes gave for a freewill offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the rulers of God’s house, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings two thousand and six hundred small livestock, and three hundred head of cattle.

⁹कोनन्या आणि त्याचे भाऊ शमाया व नथनेल यांनी तसेच हशब्या, ईयेल व योजाबाद यांनी लेवींना 500 कोकरे मेंढरे व 500 बैल वल्हांडणाचे यज्ञपशू म्हणून दिले. कोनन्या इत्यादी मंडळी लेव्यांची प्रमुख होती.

⁹Conaniah also, and Shemaiah and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, the chiefs of the Levites, gave to the Levites for the Passover offerings five thousand small livestock, and five hundred head of cattle.

¹⁰वल्हांडणाच्या उपासनेची सर्व सिध्दता झाल्यावर याजक आणि लेवी आपापल्या जागी स्थानापन्न झाले. तशी राजाज्ञाच होती.

¹⁰So the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites by their divisions, according to the king’s commandment.

¹¹वल्हांडणाचे कोकरे मारली गेली. लेवींनी त्या पशूंची कातडी काढून रक्त याजकांना दिले. याजकांनी हे रक्त वेदीवर शिंपडले.

¹¹They killed the Passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood which they received of their hand, and the Levites flayed them.

¹²त्यांन मग हे पशू परमेश्वराला होमार्पण करण्यासाठी वेगवेगळ्या घराण्याच्या लोकांकडे स्वाधीन केले. हा अर्पणाचा विधी मोशेच्या नियमशास्त्राच सांगितल्याप्रमाणे करायचा होता.

¹²They removed the burnt offerings, that they might give them according to the divisions of the fathers’ houses of the children of the people, to offer to Yahweh, as it is written in the book of Moses. So they did with the cattle.

¹³लेवींनी वल्हांडणाच्या यज्ञपशूंचे मांस विधिवत भाजले. पातेल्यांत, हंड्यांत आणि कढ्यांमध्ये त्यांनी ही पवित्रार्पणे शिजवली आणि तत्परतेने लोकांना ती नेऊन दिली.

¹³They roasted the Passover with fire according to the ordinance: and the holy offerings boiled they in pots, and in caldrons, and in pans, and carried them quickly to all the children of the people.

¹⁴हे काम उरकल्यावर लेवींना स्वत:साठी आणि अहरोनचे वंशज असलेल्या याजकांसाठी मांस मिळाले. कारण हे याजक होमबली आणि चरबी अर्पण करण्यात रात्र पडेपर्यंत गुंतले होते.

¹⁴Afterward they prepared for themselves, and for the priests, because the priests the sons of Aaron were busy with offering the burnt offerings and the fat until night: therefore the Levites prepared for themselves, and for the priests the sons of Aaron.

¹⁵आसाफच्या घराण्यातील लेवी गायक राजा दावीदाने नेमून दिलेल्या आपापल्या जागांवर उभे होते. आसाफ, हेमान आणि राजाचा संदेष्टा यदुथून हे ते होत. प्रत्येक प्रवेशद्वारावरील द्वारपालांना आपल्या जागा सोडायची गरज नव्हती कारण त्यांच्या लेवी बांधवांनी वल्हांडणाच्या सणाची त्यांच्यासाठी करायची सगळी तयारी केली होती.

¹⁵The singers the sons of Asaph were in their place, according to the commandment of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun the king’s seer; and the porters were at every gate: they didn’t need to depart from their service; for their brothers the Levites prepared for them.

¹⁶तेव्हा राजा योशीयाच्या आज्ञेनुसार परमेश्वराच्या उपासनेची सर्व तयारी त्या दिवशी पूर्ण झाली. वल्हांडणाचा उत्सव झाला आणि परमेश्वराच्या वेदीवर होमबली अर्पण करण्यात आले.

¹⁶So all the service of Yahweh was prepared the same day, to keep the Passover, and to offer burnt offerings on the altar of Yahweh, according to the commandment of king Josiah.

¹⁷सर्व उपस्थित इस्राएल लोकांनी वल्हांडणाचा आणि बेखमीर भाकरीचा सण सात दिवस साजरा केला.

¹⁷The children of Israel who were present kept the Passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened bread seven days.

¹⁸शमुवेल संदेष्ट्यांच्या काळापासून हा सण एवढ्या मोठ्या प्रमाणात साजरा झाला नव्हता. इस्राएलच्या कुठल्याच राजाच्या कारकीर्दींत हे झाले नव्हते. राजा योशीया, याजक, लेवी, यहूदा आणि इस्राएलमधून आलेले लोक आणि यरुशलेमची प्रजा यांनी वल्हांडणाचा उत्सव थाटामाटाने केला.

¹⁸There was no Passover like that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet; neither did any of the kings of Israel keep such a Passover as Josiah kept, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

¹⁹नयोशीयाच्या कारकिर्दीच्या अठराव्या वर्षी हा वल्हांडणाचा उत्सव झाला.

¹⁹In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah was this Passover kept.

²⁰योशीयाने मंदिरासाठी सर्व चांगल्या गोष्टी केल्या. पुढे मिसरचा राजा नखो, फरात नदीजवळच्या कर्कमीश नगराविरुध्द लढण्यासाठी सैन्यासह चालून आला. योशीया त्याला लढाईसाठी सामोरा गेला.

²⁰After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Neco king of Egypt went up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him.

²¹पण नखोने आपल्या वकीलांमार्फत त्याला कळवले की, “राजा योशीया, मला तुझ्याशी कर्तव्य नाही. मी तुझ्याशी लढायला आलेलो नाही. माझ्या शत्रूंवर चालून आलो आहे. देवानेच मला त्वरा करायला सांगितले. परमेश्वराची मला साथ आहे तेव्हा तू त्रास घेऊ नकोस. तू मला विरोध केलास तर देव तुझा नाश करील.”

²¹But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, “What have I to do with you, you king of Judah? I come not against you this day, but against the house with which I have war. God has commanded me to make haste. Beware that it is God who is with me, that he not destroy you.”

²²पण योशीया मागे हटला नाही. त्याने नखोला तोंड द्यायचे ठरवले. आणि वेष पालटून तो लढाईत उतरला. आज्ञेविषयी नखोने जे सांगितले ते योशीयाने ऐकले नाही. तो मागिद्दोच्या खोऱ्यात युध्दासाठी सज्ज झाला.

²²Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and didn’t listen to the words of Neco from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo.

²³या लढाईत योशीयावर बाणांचा वर्षाव झाला. तो आपल्या सेवकांना म्हणाला, “मी घायाळ झालो आहे, मला इथून घेऊन जा.”

²³The archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, “Take me away, because I am seriously wounded!”

²⁴तेव्हा सेवकांनी योशीयाला त्याच्या रथातून उतरवून त्याने तिथे आणलेल्या दुसऱ्या रथात बसवले आणि योशीयाला त्यांनी यरुशलेमला नेले. यरुशलेममध्ये योशीयाला मरण आले. त्याच्या पूर्वजांना पुरले तेथेच योशीयाला पुरण्यात आले. योशीयाच्या मृत्यूने यहूदा आणि यरुशलेमच्या लोकांना फार दु:ख झाले. 25यिर्मयाने योशीयाप्रीत्यर्थ शोकगीते लिहिली आणि गायिली. ती विलापगीते आजही इस्राएलचे स्त्रीपुरुष गातात. योशीयाची ही गीते गाण्याचा पायंडाच पडला आहे. विलापगीताच्या पुस्तकात ही लिहिलेली आहेत. 26-27आपल्या कारकिर्दीत योशीयाने ज्या इतर गोष्टी केल्या त्या ‘इस्राएल आणि यहूदा राजांचा इतिहास’ या पुस्तकात अथपासून इतीपर्यंत नोंदवलेल्या आहेत. त्याची परमेश्वरावरची निष्ठा आणि त्याचे आज्ञापालन याविषयी त्यात लिहिले आहे.

²⁴So his servants took him out of the chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he died, and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.
