¹राजा हिज्कीयाने सर्व हकीकत ऐकली. दु:ख आणि उद्वेग यांच्या भरात त्याने अंगावरची वस्त्रे फाडली आणि जाडेभरडे कपडे घालून तो परमेश्वराच्या मंदिरात गेला.

¹It happened, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh.

²He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

³ते यशयाला म्हणाले, “हिज्कीया म्हणतो, ‘हा संकटाचा मानहानीचा दिवस आहे. मूल जन्माला येत आहे पण आईला प्रसूतीची शक्ती नसावी तसे झाले आहे.

³They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.

⁴त्या सेनापतीचा स्वामी अश्शूराचा राजा याने त्याला आपल्या जिवंत देवाची निंदा करायला पाठवले होते. कदाचित् हे सर्व आपल्या परमेश्वर देवाच्या कानावर जाईल. शत्रूचा अंदाज चुकीचा आहे हे तो दाखवूनही देईल. तेव्हा अजून जे लोक आहेत त्यांच्यासाठी प्रार्थना कर.”‘

⁴It may be Yahweh your God will hear all the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Yahweh your God has heard. Therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

⁵राजा हिज्कीयाचे अधिकारी यशयाकडे गेले.

⁵So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

⁶Isaiah said to them, “Thus you shall tell your master, ‘Thus says Yahweh, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

⁷Behold, I will put a spirit in him, and he will hear news, and will return to his own land. I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.”’”

⁸अश्शूराचा राजा लाखीश सोडून गेल्याचे सेनापतीने ऐकले. यहूदातील एक नगर लिब्ना याच्याविरुध्द तो लढत असल्याचे त्या सेनापतीला आढळले.

⁸So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he had departed from Lachish.

⁹कूशाचा राजा तिऱ्हाका आपल्याशी लढायला येत आहे अशी अफवा अश्शूरच्या राजाने ऐकली. तेव्हा अश्शूरच्या राजाने हिज्कीयाकडे पुन्हा निरोप घेऊन दूत पाठवले. निरोप असा होता.

⁹When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you, he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

¹⁰यहूदाचा राजा हिज्कीयाला सांगा “तुम्ही ज्या परमेश्वरावर विसंबून आहात त्याच्याकडून फसगत करुन घेऊ नका. तो म्हणतो, ‘अश्शूरचा राजा यरुशलेमचा पराभव करणार नाही.’

¹⁰‘Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, “Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

¹¹अश्शूरच्या राजाने इतर देशांचे काय केले ते तुम्ही ऐकलेच आहे. आम्ही ते पूर्ण धुळीला मिळवले. तेव्हा तुम्हीच तेवढे वाचणार का? नाही.

¹¹Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. Will you be delivered?

¹²त्या राष्ट्रांच्या देवतांनी त्यांचे रक्षण केले नाही. माझ्या पुर्वजांनी त्यांची धूळधाण केली. गोजान, हारान, रेसफ आणि तलस्सरातील एदेन हे त्यांनी नष्ट केले.

¹²Have the gods of the nations delivered them, which my fathers have destroyed, Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden that were in Telassar?

¹⁴Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of Yahweh, and spread it before Yahweh.

¹⁵परमेश्वराची प्रार्थना करुन हिज्कीया म्हणाला. “परमेश्वर देवा, करुबांच्यावर राजासनी बसणारा तूच इस्राएलचा देव आहेस. पृथ्वीच्या पाठीवरील सर्व राज्यांचा तू आणि एकमेव तूच नियंता आहेस. आकाश आणि पृथ्वीचा तू निर्माता आहेस,

¹⁵Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, who sit above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

¹⁶परमेश्वरा, माझे म्हणणे ऐक आपले डोळे उघड आणि हे पत्र पाहा. सन्हेरीबची जिवंत परमेश्वराचा अवमान करणारी वचने पाहा.

¹⁶Incline your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, with which he has sent to defy the living God.

¹⁷खरोखरच परमेश्वराचा अवमान करणारी वचने पाहा. 17खरोखरच परमेश्वरा असे घडले आहे. अश्शूरच्या राजाने ही सर्व राष्ट्रे नामशेष केली आहेत.

¹⁷Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,

¹⁸तिथले दैवत त्याने आगीच्या भक्ष्यस्थानी टाकले. पण ते काही खरे देव नव्हते. माणसाने केलेल्या त्या लाकडाच्या आणि दगडाच्या मूर्ती होत्या. म्हणून तर अश्शूरच्या राजाला त्या नष्ट करता आल्या.

¹⁸and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone. Therefore they have destroyed them.

¹⁹तेव्हा परमेश्वर देवा आता आम्हाला या राजापासून वाचव. म्हणजे तूच खरा परमेश्वर आहेस हे जगातील सर्व राज्यांना कळेल.”

¹⁹Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us, I beg you, out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Yahweh, are God alone.”

²⁰आमोजचा मुलगा यशया याने हिज्कीयाला निरोप पाठवला की, “इस्राएलचा परमेश्वर देव असे म्हणतो, ‘अश्शूरचा राजा सन्हेरीब याच्या विषयी तू केलेले गाऱ्हणे मी ऐकले आहे.’

²⁰Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Whereas you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard you.

²¹“सन्हेरीबबद्दल परमेश्वराचा असा निरोप आहे. सीयोनच्या (म्हणजेच यरुशलेमच्या) कुमारी कन्येने तुला तुच्छ लेखून तुझा अपमान केला आहे. यरुशलेम कन्या तुझी पाठ वळली की तुझा उपहास करते.

²¹This is the word that Yahweh has spoken concerning him: “The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

²²पण तू कोणाचा अपमान केलास? कोणाला क:पदार्थ लेखलेस? तू हे कोणाविरुध्द बोललास? इस्राएलच्या पवित्र परमेश्वराविरुध्द तू गेलास. त्याच्यापेक्षा वरचढ असल्याच्या आवेशात तू असा वागलास.

²²Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

²³परमेश्वराचा अवमान करायला तू दूत पाठवलेस. तू म्हणालास, “माझे बहुसंख्य रथ घेऊन मी या उंच पर्वतावर, लबानोनच्या अंतर्भागात आलो आहे. त्यांचे उंच गंधसरु आणि उत्तम देवदारु मी तोडीन. लबानोन मध्ये सर्वात उंचावर असलेल्या घनदाट अरण्यात मी पोचलो आहे.

²³By your messengers you have defied the Lord, and have said, ‘With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

²⁴मी विहिरी खणल्या आणि नव्या नव्या ठिकाणांचे पाणी प्यालो. मिसरमधील नढ्या सुकवून तो प्रदेश मी पादाक्रांत केला.”

²⁴I have dug and drunk strange waters, and with the sole of my feet will I dry up all the rivers of Egypt.’

²⁵तू असे म्हणालास खरा, पण परमेश्वर काय म्हणाला ते तू ऐकले नाहीस काय?’ “पूर्वी, फार फार पूर्वीच मी हे सर्व योजले होते आणि आता त्याप्रमाणेच घडत आहे. मजबूत नगर उद्ध्वस्त होऊन तिथे नुसती दगडांची रास उरली आहे, हे तुझ्याहातून घडले ते माझ्यामुळेच.

²⁵Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now have I brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

²⁶तेथील लोक समर्थ नव्हते. ते घाबरलेले आणि गोंधळलेले होते. शेतातले गवत आणि पीक सरसकट कापले जावे तसे ते होते. घराच्या धाब्यावरच गवत पूर्ण वाढण्याआधीच करपून जावे तशी त्यांची स्थिती होती.

²⁶Therefore their inhabitants were of small power. They were dismayed and confounded. They were like the grass of the field, and like the green herb, like the grass on the housetops, and like grain blasted before it has grown up.

²⁷तू कधी स्वस्थ बसतोस, कधी लढाईवर जातोस आणि कधी घरी परततोस, तसेच माझ्याविरुध्द कधी उठतोस ते मला माहीत आहे.

²⁷But I know your sitting down, and your going out, and your coming in, and your raging against me.

²⁸Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.”

²⁹“मी तुझ्या साहाय्यासाठी येणार आहे याची खात्री पटावी म्हणून हे चिन्ह देतो. या वर्षी आपोआप धान्य उगवेल ते तुम्ही खाल. दुसऱ्या वर्षी त्याच्या बियाणातून उगवेल ते खाल. पण तिसऱ्या वर्षी मात्र तुम्ही स्वत: पेरणी कराल त्यातून धान्य काढा. द्राक्षाची लागवड करा आणि द्राक्षे खा.

²⁹“‘This shall be the sign to you: You shall eat this year that which grows of itself, and in the second year that which springs of the same; and in the third year sow, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat its fruit.

³⁰यहूदाच्या घराण्यातील उरल्यासुरल्या लोकांचा वंश वाढेल.

³⁰The remnant that has escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

³¹कारण काही जण बचावतील. ते यरुशलेममधून बाहेर पडतील. सीयोन डोंगरातून काहीजण येतील. परमेश्वराच्या तीव्र आवेशामुळे असे घडेल.

³¹For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go out, and out of Mount Zion those who shall escape. The zeal of Yahweh will perform this.’

³²“अश्शूरच्या राजाबद्दल परमेश्वर असे म्हणतो, तो या शहरात पाऊल टाकणार नाही या नगरावर तो बाण सोडणार नाही आपल्या ढाली तो येथे आणणार नाही. या शहरच्या तटबंदीवर हल्ला करण्यासाठी तो कचऱ्याचे ढीग रचणार नाही.

³²“Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He shall not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither shall he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

³³तो आल्या वाटेने परत जाईल. या शहरात तो येणार नाही असे परमेश्वर म्हणतो.

³³By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and he shall not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.

³⁴या नगराचे रक्षण करुन त्याला मी वाचवीन. माझ्यासाठी आणि माझा सेवक दावीद याच्यासाठी मी हे करीन.”

³⁴‘For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.’”

³⁵त्या रात्री परमेश्वराचा दूत बाहेर पडला आणि त्यांने अश्शूरांच्या छावणीतली एक लक्ष पंच्याऐशी हजार माणसे मारली. सकाळी लोक उठून पाहतात तर सर्वत्र प्रेतांचा खच पडलेला.

³⁵It happened that night, that the angel of Yahweh went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

³⁶तेव्हा अश्शूरचा राजा सन्हेरीब निनवे येथे, जिथे तो अगोदर होता तिथे निघून गेला.

³⁶So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and lived at Nineveh.

³⁷एक दिवस सन्हेरीब आपले दैवत निस्रोख याच्या देवळात पूजा करत होता. तेव्हा त्याचीच मुले अद्रम्मेलेक आणि शरेसर यांनी त्याला तलवारीने मारले. मग ते अराराट या देशात निघून गेले. सन्हेरीबच्या जागी त्याचा मुलगा एसर-हद्दोन राज्य करु लागला.

³⁷It happened, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Esar Haddon his son reigned in his place.
