¹परमेश्वर मला असे म्हणाला: “यिर्मया, जा आणि तागाचा घागरा विकत घे. नंतर तो नेस. तो ओला होऊ देऊ नकोस.”

¹Thus says Yahweh to me, Go, and buy yourself a linen belt, and put it on your waist, and don’t put it in water.

²परमेश्वराने सांगितल्याप्रमाणे मी एक तागाचा घागरा विकत आणला व नेसला.

²So I bought a belt according to the word of Yahweh, and put it on my waist.

³नंतर मला परमेश्वराकडून दुसऱ्यांदा संदेश आला.

³The word of Yahweh came to me the second time, saying,

⁴तो असा होता: “यिर्मया, तू विकत आणून नेसलेला घागरा घेऊन फरातला जा. तिथे तो खडकाला पडलेल्या चिरेत लपवून ठेव.”

⁴Take the belt that you have bought, which is on your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.

⁵त्याप्रमाणे मी फरातला गेलो आणि अगदी परमेश्वराने सांगितल्याप्रमाणे घागरा लपवून ठेवला.

⁵So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Yahweh commanded me.

⁶पुष्कळ दिवसांनी देव मला म्हणाला, “यिर्मया, फरातला जा व लपवून ठेवायला सांगितलेला घागरा परत घे.”

⁶It happened after many days, that Yahweh said to me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the belt from there, which I commanded you to hide there.

⁷त्याप्रमाणे मी फरातला गेलो आणि घागरा उकरुन काढला. मी दगडाच्या चिरेत लपविलेला घागरा बाहेर काढला. पण आता तो इतका खराब झाला होता की मी तो नेसू शकत नव्हतो. तो अगदी निरुपयोगी झाला होता.

⁷Then I went to the Euphrates, and dug, and took the belt from the place where I had hidden it; and behold, the belt was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁸मग मला परमेश्वराचा संदेश आला.

⁸Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁹परमेश्वर मला म्हणाला, “ज्याप्रमाणे घागरा अगदी खराब आणि निरुपयोगी झाला, त्याचप्रमाणे यहूदातील आणि यरुशलेमधील अहंकारी लोकांचा नाश होईल.

⁹Thus says Yahweh, In this way I will mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

¹⁰मी यहुदाच्या उद्दाम आणि पापी लोकांचा नाश करीन. ते लोक माझा संदेश ऐकण्याचे नाकारतात. ते दुराग्रही असून आपल्याला पाहिजे त्याच गोष्टी करतात. ते दुसऱ्या देवांना अनुसरतात व त्यांची पूजा करतात. यहूदाच्या अशा लोकांची गत ह्या तागाच्या घागऱ्याप्रमाणे होईल. त्यांचा नाश होऊन ते निरुपयोगी ठरतील.

¹⁰This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this belt, which is profitable for nothing.

¹¹घागरा जसा माणसाच्या कमरेभोवती घट्ठ लपेटला जातो, त्याप्रमाणे मी यहूदाची आणि इस्राएलची कुटुंबे माझ्या कमरेला लपेटली.” हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे. “त्या लोकांनी माझे व्हावे, मला कीर्ती, प्रशंसा आणि मान मिळवून द्यावा म्हणून मी असे केले. पण माझ्या लोकांना माझे ऐकावयाचे नाही.”

¹¹For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so have I caused to cling to me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, says Yahweh; that they may be to me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹²“यिर्मया, यहूदाच्या लोकांना सांग की परमेश्वर, इस्राएलचा देव म्हणतो, ‘प्रत्येक चामड्याचा बुधला दारुने भरावा.’ ते लोक तुला हसतील आणि म्हणतील ‘प्रत्येक चामड्याचा बुधला दारुने भरावा हे आम्हाला माहीत आहे.’

¹²Therefore you shall speak to them this word: Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall tell you, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹³मग तू त्यांना सांग, ‘परमेश्वराचे म्हणणे असे आहे की या देशात राहणाऱ्या प्रत्येक माणसाला मी दारुड्याप्रमाणे असहाय करीन. मी हे दावीदच्या सिंहासनावर बसलेल्या राजांबद्दल, याजकांबद्दल, संदेष्ट्यांबद्दल आणि यरुशलेममध्ये राहणाऱ्या यच्चयावत लोकांबद्दल बोलत आहे.

¹³Then you shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings who sit on David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹⁴यहूदाच्या लोकांना मी धडपडायला भाग पाडीन. ते धडपडून एकमेकांच्या अंगावर पडतील. पिता पुत्र एकमेकांवर पडतील. हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे. “‘मला त्याबद्दल वाईटही वाटणार नाही. आणि त्यांची दयाही येणार नाही. अनुकंपा येऊन मी यहूदाच्या लोकांचे पारिपत्य थांबविणार नाही.”‘

¹⁴I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says Yahweh: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

¹⁵ऐका आणि लक्ष द्या. परमेश्वर तुमच्याशी बोलला आहे. उन्मत्त बनू नका.

¹⁵Hear, and give ear; don’t be proud; for Yahweh has spoken.

¹⁶परमेश्वराचा, तुमच्या देवाचा मान राखा. त्याचे स्तवन करा, नाहीतर तो अंधकार पसरवील. अंधकारमय टेकड्यांवर पडण्याआधीच त्याचे स्तुतिस्तोत्र गा. तुम्ही यहूदाचे लोक प्रकाशाची वाट पाहता, पण परमेश्वर प्रकाशाचे गाढ अंधकारात रुपांतर करेल. तो प्रकाशाला दाट अंधारात बदलेल.

¹⁶Give glory to Yahweh your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

¹⁷यहूदाच्या लोकांनो, तुम्ही जर परमेश्वराचे ऐकणार नसाल, तर मी एकांतात आक्रोश करीन. तुमचा उन्मत्तपणा मला आक्रोश करायला भाग पाडेल. मी दारुण आकांत करीन. माझे डोळे अश्रूंनी डबडबतील. का? कारण परमेश्वराच्या मेंढरांचा कळप (यहूदाचे लोक) पकडला जाईल.

¹⁷But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and my eye shall weep bitterly, and run down with tears, because Yahweh’s flock is taken captive.

¹⁸राजा आणि राणीला या गोष्टी सांगा, “तुमचे सुंदर मुकुट तुमच्या डोक्यांवरुन खाली पडलेत. तुम्ही आता तुमच्या सिंहासनावरुन खाली उतरा.”

¹⁸Say to the king and to the queen mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headdresses have come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁹नेगेवच्या वाळवंटातील शहरे बंद केली गेली आहेत. कोणीही ती उघडू शकत नाही. यहूदाच्या सर्व लोकांना कैद करुन परागंदा करण्यात आले आहे.

¹⁹The cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

²⁰यरुशलेम, तो पाहा! उत्तरेकडून शत्रू चाल करुन येत आहे. तुझा कळप कोठे आहे? देवाने तुला या सुंदर कळपाचे दान दिले. त्याची तू काळजी घ्यावीस अशी अपेक्षा होती.

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and see those who come from the north: where is the flock that was given you, your beautiful flock?

²¹आता त्या कळपाबद्दल परमेश्वराने जाब विचारल्यास तू काय उत्तर देणार? तू लोकांना देवाबद्दल ज्ञान देशील अशी अपेक्षा होती. तुझे नेते लोकांना मार्गदर्शन करतील असे वाटत होते. पण त्यांनी त्यांचे कर्तव्य केले नाही. तेव्हा आता तुला प्रसुतिवेदनांप्रमाणे वेदना व त्रास भोगावा लागेल.

²¹What will you say, when he shall set over you as head those whom you have yourself taught to be friends to you? shall not sorrows take hold of you, as of a woman in travail?

²²तू कदाचित् स्वत:ला विचारशील, “माझ्यावरच असा वाईट प्रसंग का आला?” तुझ्या अनेक पापांमुळे असे झाले. तुझ्या पापाबद्दल तुझा घागरा फाडला गेला आणि तुझी पादत्राणे काढून घेण्यात आली. तुझी मानहानी करण्यासाठी हे करण्यात आले.

²²If you say in your heart, Why are these things come on me? for the greatness of your iniquity are your skirts uncovered, and your heels suffer violence.

²³काळा माणूस आपल्या कातडीचा रंग बदलू शकत नाही. किंवा चित्ता आपल्या अंगावरील ठिपके बदलू शकत नाही. त्याचप्रमाणे यरुशलेम, तू सुद्धा बदलणार नाहीस आणि चांगल्या गोष्टी करणार नाहीस तू नेहमीच वाईट गोष्टी करशील.

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may you also do good, who are accustomed to do evil.

²⁴“मी तुम्हाला तुमची घरे सोडून जाण्यास भाग पाडीन. तुम्ही दाही दिशांना सैरावैरा पळत सुटाल, वाळवंटातील वाऱ्याने दूर उडून जाणाऱ्या फोलकटाप्रमाणे तुमची गत होईल.

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passes away, by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁵तुमच्याबाबत माझी योजना ही अशी आहे आणि त्याचप्रमाणे गोष्टी घडतील.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे. “हे असे का घडेल? कारण तुम्हाला माझा विसर पडला. तुम्ही खोट्या देवावर विश्वास ठेवला.

²⁵This is your lot, the portion measured to you from me, says Yahweh; because you have forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁶यरुशलेम, मी तुझा घागरा डोक्याकडून खेचीन. प्रत्येकजण तुला पाहील आणि तुझी बेअब्रू होईल.

²⁶Therefore will I also uncover your skirts on your face, and your shame shall appear.

²⁷मी तू केलेली भयानक कृत्ये पाहिली आहेत. जारांशी हसताना आणि संभोग करताना मी तुला पाहिले आहे. वेश्या बनायचेच तुझ्या मनात दिसते आहे. मी तुला डोंगरकपारीत आणि मैदानात पाहिले आहे. यरुशलेम, हे तुझ्या दृष्टीने वाईट आहे. या घृणास्पद पापें तू किती काळ करणार याचे मला नवल वाटते.”

²⁷I have seen your abominations, even your adulteries, and your neighing, the lewdness of your prostitution, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, Jerusalem! You will not be made clean; how long shall it yet be?
