¹परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “यरुशलेमच्या रस्त्यावरुन चाला. सभोवती पाहा आणि या गोष्टींचा विचार करा. नगरातील चव्हाटे शोधा. जो सत्याचा शोध घेतो, जो सच्चेपणाने वागतो असा एखादा सज्जन माणूस सापडू शकतो का ते पाहा. जर तुम्हाला एक तरी सज्जन व सत्यशील माणूस सापडला तरी मी यरुशलेमला क्षमा करीन.

¹“Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places of it, if you can find a man, if there are any who does justly, who seeks truth; and I will pardon her.

²लोक शपथ घेतात आणि म्हणतात, ‘परमेश्वर असेपर्यंत.’ पण ते काही त्यांच्या मनात नसते.”

²Though they say, ‘As Yahweh lives;’ surely they swear falsely.”

³हे परमेश्वरा, मला माहीत आहे की तुझ्या लोकांनी तुझ्याशी एकनिष्ठपणे वागायला हवे आहे. तू यहूदातील लोकांना चोपलेस पण त्यांना काही वेदना झाल्या नाहीत. तू त्यांचा नाश केलास, पण त्यांनी धडा शिकण्यास नकार दिला. ते फार दुराग्रही झालेत. त्यांनी केलेल्या वाईट कृत्यांबद्दल त्यांना खेद वाटला नाही.

³O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

⁴पण मी (यिर्मया) मनाशी म्हणालो, “गरीब लोकच एवढे मूर्ख असले पाहिजेत. परमेश्वराच्या चालीरिती ते शिकलेले नाहीत. त्यांना, त्यांच्या देवाची शिकवण माहीत नाही.

⁴Then I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; for they don’t know the way of Yahweh, nor the law of their God.

⁵म्हणून मी यहुदाच्या नेत्यांकडे जाऊन त्यांच्याशी बोलेन. नेत्यांना परमेश्वराच्या चालीरिती नक्कीच माहीत असतात. त्यांना त्यांच्या देवाचे नियम माहीत असतात. ह्याची मला खात्री आहे!” पण परमेश्वराच्या सेवेतून मुक्त होण्यासाठी सर्व नेते एकत्र जमले होते.

⁵I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they know the way of Yahweh, and the law of their God.” But these with one accord have broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

⁶ते देवाच्या विरुद्ध गेले म्हणून जंगलातील सिंह त्यांच्यावर हल्ला करील. जंगलातील लांडगा त्यांना ठार मारील. चित्ता त्यांच्या शहराजवळ लपला आहे. शहरातून बाहेर येणाऱ्या प्रत्येकाचे तो तुकडे तुकडे करील. यहूदातील लोकांनी पुन्हा पापे केल्याने हे घडून येईल. ते, अनेक वेळा, देवापासून दूर भटकत गेले आहेत.

⁶Therefore a lion out of the forest shall kill them, a wolf of the evenings shall destroy them, a leopard shall watch against their cities; everyone who goes out there shall be torn in pieces; because their transgressions are many, and their backsliding is increased.

⁷देव म्हणाला, “यहूदा, मी तुला क्षमा करावी म्हणून तू मला एक तरी सबळ कारण सांग. तुझ्या मुलांनी माझा त्याग केला. त्यांनी मूर्तींपुढे शपथा वाहिल्या. पण त्या मूर्ती म्हणजे खरे देव नव्हेत. तुझ्या मुलांना पाहिजे ते सर्व मी दिले. पण तरी त्यांनी माझा विश्वासघात केला. त्यांनी आपला बराच वेळ वारांगनेबरोबर घालविला.

⁷“How can I pardon you? Your children have forsaken me, and sworn by what are no gods. When I had fed them to the full, they committed adultery, and assembled themselves in troops at the prostitutes’ houses.

⁸ते लोक, भरपूर खाद्य खाणाऱ्या व समागमाला तयार असणाऱ्या घोड्यांप्रमाणे आहेत. शेजाऱ्याच्या बायकोला वासनेने हाका मारणाऱ्या घोड्यांप्रमाणे ते आहेत.

⁸They were as fed horses roaming at large: everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

⁹ह्या कर्मांबद्दल मी यहूदातील लोकांना शिक्षा करावी का?” हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे. “हो! अशा रीतीने जीवन जगणाऱ्या राष्ट्राला मी शिक्षा करीनच, हे तू जाणतेस. त्यांच्या लायकीप्रमाणे मी त्यांना शिक्षा करीन.

⁹Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says Yahweh; “and shouldn’t my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹⁰“यहूदाच्या द्राक्षवेलींच्या रांगातून जा. वेली तोडून टाका (पण त्यांचा संपूर्ण नाश करु नका) त्यांच्या फांद्या तोडा. का? ह्या फांद्या परमेश्वराच्या मालकीच्या नाहीत.

¹⁰“Go up on her walls, and destroy; but don’t make a full end. Take away her branches; for they are not Yahweh’s.

¹¹यहूदा व इस्राएल येथील घराणी, प्रत्येक बाबतीत, माझा विश्वासघात करीत आली आहेत.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे.

¹¹For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me,” says Yahweh.

¹²“हे लोक परमेश्वराबद्दल खोटे बोलले. ते म्हणाले आहेत, ‘परमेश्वर आम्हाला काही करणार नाही. आमचे काही वाईट होणार नाही. आमच्यावर हल्ला झालेला आम्ही कधी पाहणार नाही. आम्ही कधी उपाशी राहणार नाही.’

¹²They have denied Yahweh, and said, “It is not he; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine.

¹³“खोटे संदेष्टे पोकळ वाऱ्या प्रमाणे आहेत. देवाचे शब्द त्यांच्याजवळ नाहीत त्यांचे वाईट होईल.”

¹³The prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them. Thus shall it be done to them.”

¹⁴सर्वशक्तिमान परमेश्वराने पुढील गोष्टी सांगितल्या. “मी त्यांना शिक्षा करणार नाही असे ते लोक म्हणाले म्हणून, यिर्मया, मी जे शब्द तुला देतो, ते आगीप्रमाणे असतील, ते लोक लाकडाप्रमाणे असतील, ती आग त्यांना पूर्णपणे जाळून टाकील.”

¹⁴Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, “Because you speak this word, behold, I will make my words in your mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

¹⁵इस्राएलच्या वारसांनो हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे. “दूरवरच्या राष्ट्राला मी, तुमच्यावर हल्ला करण्यासाठी लवकरच आणीन. ते शक्तिशाली राष्ट्र आहे. ते प्राचीन राष्ट्र आहे. त्या राष्ट्रांतील लोक तुम्हाला माहीत नसणारी भाषा बोलतात. ते काय बोलतात ते तुम्ही समजू शकणार नाही.

¹⁵Behold, I will bring a nation on you from far, house of Israel,” says Yahweh. “It is a mighty nation. It is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you don’t know, neither understand what they say.

¹⁶त्यांचे भाते उघड्या थडग्यांप्रमाणे आहेत. त्यांची सर्व माणसे शक्तिशाली सैनिक आहेत.

¹⁶Their quiver is an open tomb, they are all mighty men.

¹⁷तुम्ही गोळा केलेले सर्व धान्य ते खातील. ते तुमचे सर्व अन्न खाऊन टाकतील. ते तुमच्या मुलामुलींना खाऊन टाकतील. ते तुमच्या मुलामुलींना खाऊन टाकतील (त्यांचा नाश करतील) ते तुमची गुरे, शोळ्या, मेंढ्या खातील. ते तुमची द्राक्षे आणि अंजिरे फस्त करतील. त्यांच्या तलवारीच्या जोरावर ते तुमच्या मजबूत शहरांचा नाश करतील. तुम्ही ज्या शहरांवर विसंबता ती भक्क म शहरे ते नष्ट करतील.”

¹⁷They shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat. They shall eat up your flocks and your herds. They shall eat up your vines and your fig trees. They shall beat down your fortified cities, in which you trust, with the sword.

¹⁸“पण जेव्हा ते भयानक दिवस येतील.” हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे, तेव्हा, यहूदा, मी तुझा संपूर्ण नाश करणार नाही.

¹⁸“But even in those days,” says Yahweh, “I will not make a full end with you.

¹⁹यहूदाचे लोक तुला विचारतील, ‘यिर्मया, आमच्या परमेश्वर देवाने आमचे असे वाईट का केले?’ त्यांना पुढील उत्तर दे, ‘यहूदाच्या लोकांनो, तुम्ही परमेश्वराला सोडले आणि तुमच्या देशात तुम्ही परक्या मूर्तींची सेवा केली. तुम्ही असे वागलात म्हणून आता तुम्ही परक्या देशात परक्यांचीच सेवा कराल.”

¹⁹It will happen, when you say, ‘Why has Yahweh our God done all these things to us?’ Then you shall say to them, ‘Just like you have forsaken me, and served foreign gods in your land, so you shall serve strangers in a land that is not yours.’

²⁰परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “याकोबच्या वंशजांना आणि यहूदातील राष्ट्रांना हा संदेश द्या.

²⁰“Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

²¹ऐका! ‘तुम्हा मूर्खाना अक्कल नाही. तुम्हाला डोळे असून दिसत नाही कान असून ऐकू येत नाही.

²¹‘Hear now this, foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and don’t see; who have ears, and don’t hear:

²²खरोखर तुम्हाला माझी भिती वाटते.” हा परमेश्वराचा संदेश आहे. “माझ्यापुढे तुम्ही भीतीने थरथर कापावे. समुद्राला सीमा असावी म्हणून समुद्रकिनारे निर्माण करणारा मी एकमेव आहे. पाणी अखंड जागच्या जागी राहावे म्हणून मी असे केले. लाटा कधी किनाऱ्यावर आक्रमण करतात. पण त्या किनाऱ्याचा नाश करीत नाहीत. लाटा गर्जना करीत कधी कधी आत येतात, पण त्या किनाऱ्याच्या बाहेर जाऊ शकत नाहीत.

²²Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? and though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail; though they roar, yet they can’t pass over it.’

²³पण यहूदाचे लोक दुराग्रही आहेत. ते नेहमीच माझ्याविरुद्ध जाण्यासाठी मार्ग आखत असतात. ते माझ्यापासून दूर गेले आणि त्यांनी माझा त्याग केला.

²³“But this people has a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.

²⁴यहूदातील लोक आपल्या मनाशी असे कधीही म्हणत नाहीत ‘आपण आपल्या परमेश्वर देवाला घाबरु या आणि त्याचा मान राखू या. योग्य वेळेला तो आपल्याला आगोटीचा व वळवाचा पाऊस देतो. योग्य वेळी आपल्याला कापणी करता येईल, ह्याची तो खात्री करुन घेतो.’

²⁴Neither do they say in their heart, ‘Let us now fear Yahweh our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season; who preserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest.’

²⁵यहूदातील लोकांनो, तुम्ही पाप केलेत म्हणूनच पावसाळा व सुगीचा हंगाम आला नाही. तुमच्या पापांनी परमेश्वराकडून मिळणाऱ्या ह्या चांगल्या गोष्टींचा आनंद तुमच्यापासून हिरावून घेतला आहे.

²⁵“Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withheld good from you.

²⁶माझ्या माणसांत काही दुष्ट आहेत. ते फासेपारध्यांप्रमाणे आहेत. हे लोक जाळे पसरवितात, पण पक्ष्यांना पकडण्या ऐवजी ते माणसांना पकडतात.

²⁶For among my people are found wicked men. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

²⁷पक्ष्यांनी पिंजरे भरावेत तशी ह्या दुष्टांची घरे कपटांनी भरलेली असतात. त्यांच्या कपटांनी त्यांना श्रीमंत व शक्तिशाली बनविले.

²⁷As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich.

²⁸त्यांनी केलेल्या दुष्कृत्यांमुळे ते पुष्ट व लठ्ठ झाले आहेत. त्यांच्या दुष्कृत्यांना अंत नाही. ते अनाथांच्या वतीने बोलणार नाहीत. ते त्यांना मदत करणार नाहीत. ते गरीब लोकांना योग्य न्याय मिळवून देणार नाहीत.

²⁸They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excell in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t judge the right of the needy.

²⁹त्यांनी केलेल्या ह्या कर्मांबद्दल मी त्यांना शिक्षा करावी का?” हा परमेश्वराकडून आलेला संदेश आहे. “अशा राष्ट्राला मी शिक्षा करणार हे तुम्हाला माहीत आहे. त्यांना योग्य ती शिक्षा मी करीन.”

²⁹“Shall I not punish for these things?” says Yahweh. “Shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

³⁰परमेश्वर म्हणतो, “यहूदात भयानक व धक्कादायक गोष्ट घडली आहे.

³⁰“An astonishing and horrible thing has happened in the land.

³¹संदेष्टे खोटे सांगतात, जे काम करण्यासाठी याजकांची निवड केली आहे, ते काम ते करणार नाहीत. आणि माझ्या लोकांना हे आवडते! पण तुमची शिक्षा जवळ आल्यावर तुम्ही काय कराल?”

³¹The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their own authority; and my people love to have it so. What will you do in the end of it?
