¹“त्या सर्वशक्तिमान देवाला माणसाच्या आयुष्यातल्या सर्व गोष्टी कशा माहीत असतात? परंतु त्याच्या भक्तांना मात्र त्याच्याबद्दल काहीच माहीत नसते.”

¹“Why aren’t times laid up by the Almighty? Why don’t those who know him see his days?

²“लोक शेतातली हद्द दर्शविणाऱ्या खुणा जास्त जमीन मिळवण्यासाठी सरकवतात. लोक पशूंचे कळप चोरुन दुसऱ्या रानात चरायला नेतात.

²There are people who remove the landmarks. They violently take away flocks, and feed them.

³ते अनाथ मुलांची गाढवे चोरतात. ते विधवेची गाय पळवून नेतात आणि त्यांच्या ऋणाची ती जोपर्यंत परतफेड करत नाही तोपर्यंत ती गाय आपल्याकडे ठेवून घेतात.

³They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, and they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

⁴ते गरीब लोकांना घरादाराशिवाय इकडे तिकडे हिंडायला लावतात. सगळ्या गरीबांना या दुष्टांपासून लपून राहावे लागते.

⁴They turn the needy out of the way. The poor of the earth all hide themselves.

⁵“गरीब लोक वाळवंटात हिंडून अन्न शोधणाऱ्या मोकाट गाढवाप्रमाणे आहेत ते अन्नाच्या शोधात लवकर उठतात. ते मुलाबाळांना अन्न देण्यासाठी रात्रीपर्यंत काम करतात.

⁵Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert, they go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food. The wilderness yields them bread for their children.

⁶गरीब लोकांना शेतात गवत आणि चारा कापत रात्रीपर्यंत काम करावे लागते. त्यांना श्रीमंतांच्या शेतातली द्राक्षे वेचावी लागतात.

⁶They cut their provender in the field. They glean the vineyard of the wicked.

⁷त्यांना रात्री कपड्यांशिवाय झोपावे लागते. थंडीपासून रक्षण करण्यासाठी त्यांच्याजवळ पांघरुण नसते.

⁷They lie all night naked without clothing, and have no covering in the cold.

⁸ते डोंगरावर पावसात भिजतात. थंडीवाऱ्यापासून रक्षण करण्यासाठी त्यांच्याजवळ काही नसते म्हणून ते मोठ्या खडकांना चिकटून बसतात.

⁸They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.

⁹दुष्ट लोक स्तनपान करणारे बाळ आईजवळून घेतात. ते गरीबाच्या त्याने काढलेल्या कर्जाबद्दल तारण म्हणून ठेवून घेतात.

⁹There are those who pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor,

¹⁰गरीबांजवळ कपडे नसतात. म्हणून काम करताना ते उघडेच असतात. ते दुष्टांसाठी धान्याच्या पेढं्या वाहतात पण स्वत: मात्र उपाशीच राहतात.

¹⁰So that they go around naked without clothing. Being hungry, they carry the sheaves.

¹¹ते आँलिव्हचे तेल काढतात. द्राक्षाचा रस काढतात. व त्यासाठी द्राक्षकुंडात द्राक्षं तुडवतात. परंतु त्यांच्याजवळ मात्र पिण्यासाठी काही नसते.

¹¹They make oil within the walls of these men. They tread wine presses, and suffer thirst.

¹²शहरात मरायला टेकलेल्या माणसांचे दु:खद रडणे ऐकू येते ते दु:खी कष्टी लोक मदतीसाठी हाका मारतात. परंतु देव ते ऐकत नाही.

¹²From out of the populous city, men groan. The soul of the wounded cries out, yet God doesn’t regard the folly.

¹³“काही लोक प्रकाशाविरुद्द बंड करतात. देवाला काय हवे आहे हे जाणून घ्यायची त्यांची इच्छा नसते. देवाच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे जगणे त्यांना आवडत नाही.

¹³“These are of those who rebel against the light. They don’t know its ways, nor stay in its paths.

¹⁴खुनी सकाळी लवकर उठतो आणि गरीब व असहाय्य लोकांना ठार मारतो. तो रात्रीच्या वेळी चोर बनतो.

¹⁴The murderer rises with the light. He kills the poor and needy. In the night he is like a thief.

¹⁵ज्या माणसाला व्यभिचार करायचा आहे तो रात्रीची वाट बघतो. ‘मला कुणीही बघणार नाही’ असे त्याला वाटते.’ पण तरीही तो त्याचा चेहरा झाकतो.

¹⁵The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, ‘No eye shall see me.’ He disguises his face.

¹⁶रात्रीच्या वेळी अंधार असतो तेव्हा दुष्ट लोक दुसऱ्यांची घरे फोडतात. पण दिवसा ते स्वत:ला त्यांच्या घरांत कोंडून घेतात. ते प्रकाशाला टाळतात.

¹⁶In the dark they dig through houses. They shut themselves up in the daytime. They don’t know the light.

¹⁷त्या दुष्टांना काळीकुटृ रात्र सकाळसारखी वाटते. त्या भयंकर काळोखाची भयानकता त्यांना चांगलीच माहीत असते.

¹⁷For the morning is to all of them like thick darkness, for they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

¹⁸“पुरात जशा वस्तू वाहून जातात तशी दुष्ट माणसे वाहून नेली जातात. त्यांनी त्यांच्या शेतात द्राक्ष गोळा करु नयेत म्हणून त्यांच्या जमिनीला शाप दिला जातो.

¹⁸“They are foam on the surface of the waters. Their portion is cursed in the earth. They don’t turn into the way of the vineyards.

¹⁹हिवाळ्यातल्या बफर्पासून मिळालेले त्यांचे पाणी उष्ण आणि कोरडी हवा शोषून घेते. त्याप्रमाणे त्या पापी लोकांना थडग्यात नेले जाते.

¹⁹Drought and heat consume the snow waters, so does Sheol Sheol is the place of the dead. those who have sinned.

²⁰हा दुष्ट माणूस मरेल आणि त्याची आईदेखील त्याला विसरुन जाईल. त्याची प्रेयसी म्हणजे त्याचे शरीर खाणारे किडे असतील. लोक त्याची आठवण ठेवणार नाहीत. त्यामुळे दुष्टपणा लाकडासारखा मोडून पडेल.

²⁰The womb shall forget him. The worm shall feed sweetly on him. He shall be no more remembered. Unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.

²¹दुष्ट माणसे वांझ बायकांना त्रास देतात आणि ते विधवांना मदत करायचे नाकारतात.

²¹He devours the barren who don’t bear. He shows no kindness to the widow.

²²सामर्थ्यवान लोकांना नष्ट करण्यासाठी दुष्ट आपली शक्ती खर्ची घालतात. दुष्ट माणसे सामर्थ्यवान बनू शकतात परंतु त्यांना त्यांच्या आयुष्याची खात्री नसते.

²²Yet God preserves the mighty by his power. He rises up who has no assurance of life.

²³दुष्टांना थोड्या वेळासाठी सुरक्षित आणि निर्धास्त वाटते. आपण सामर्थ्यवान व्हावे असे त्यांना वाटते.

²³God gives them security, and they rest in it. His eyes are on their ways.

²⁴दुष्ट लोक थोड्या काळापुरते यशस्वी होतात. परंतु नंतर ते जातात. धान्याप्रमाणे त्यांची कापणी होते, इतर लोकांप्रमाणे दुष्टांनादेखील कापले जाते.

²⁴They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone. Yes, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

²⁵“या गोष्टी खऱ्या आहेत हे मी शपर्थपूर्वक सांगतो. मी खोटे बोललो हे कोण सिध्द करेल? मी चुकलो हे कोण दाखवेल?”

²⁵If it isn’t so now, who will prove me a liar, and make my speech worth nothing?”
