1मग ईयोब उत्तरा दाखल म्हणाला:
1Then Job answered,
2“तू जे काही म्हणत आहेस ते खरे असल्याची जाणीव मला आहे, परंतु देवापुढे माणूस कसा बरोबर ठरेल?
2“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
3मनुष्य देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. देव हजार प्रश्र्न विचारु शकतो आणि माणसाला त्याच्या एकाही प्रश्र्नाचे उत्तर देता येत नाही.
3If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
4देव खूप विद्वान आहे आणि त्याची शक्ती अमर्याद आहे. देवाशी युध्द करु शकणारा माणूस जखमी झाल्याशिवाय कसा राहील?
4God who is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?
5देव क्रोधित झाला की पर्वत हलवतो आणि लोकांना ते कळत देखील नाही.
5He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
6पृथ्वीचा थरकाप करण्यासाठी देव भूकंप पाठवतो. देव पृथ्वीचा पायाच हलवून टाकतो.
6He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
7देव सूर्याशी बोलू शकतो आणि त्याला उगवू देत नाही. ताऱ्यांनी चमकू नये म्हणून देव त्यांना लपवू शकतो.
7He commands the sun, and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
8देवाने एकट्याने आकाश निर्माण केले. तो सागराच्या लाटांवर चालतो.
8He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.

9He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
10लोकांना न कळणाऱ्या आश्र्चर्यकारक गोष्टीही देवानेच निर्मिल्या. देवाच्या अद्भुत कृत्यांची सीमा नाही.
10He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
11देव जेव्हा माझ्या जवळून जातो तेव्हा मी त्याला बघू शकत नाही. तो जातो तरी त्याची महानता माझ्या लक्षात येत नाही.
11Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
12देवाने जरी काही घेतले तरी त्याला कोणीही अडवू शकत नाही. ‘तू काय करीत आहेस?’ असे त्याला कुणी विचारु शकत नाही.
12Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
13देव त्याचा क्रोध काबूत ठेवणार नाही. राहाबाचे मदतनीससुध्दा देवाला घाबरतात.”
13“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
14म्हणून मी देवाशी वाद घालू शकत नाही. त्याच्याशी काय बोलावे ते मला सुचणार नाही.
14How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him?
15मी निष्याप आहे, पण मी त्याला उत्तर देऊ शकणार नाही. मी केवळ माझ्या देवाची कृपादृष्टी मिळावी म्हणून याचना करु शकतो.
15Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
16मी हाक मारल्यानंतर त्याने ओ दिली तरी तो माझे ऐकतो यावर मी विश्वास ठेवणार नाही.
16If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
17देव मला चिरडण्यासाठी वादळे पाठवील. काहीही कारण नसताना तो मला जखमा देईल.
17For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
18देव मला माझा श्वास परत घेऊ देणार नाही. तो मला अधिक कष्ट देईल.
18He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
19मी देवाचा पराभव करु शकत नाही. तो सर्वशक्तिमान आहे. मी त्याला न्यायालयात खेचू शकत नाही आणि त्याला माझ्या बाबतीत न्यायी बनवू शकत नाही. देवाला न्यायालयात नेण्यासाठी बळांचा वापर कोण करेल?
19If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
20मी निष्पाप असलो तरी, माझे बोलणेच मला अपराधी बनवते. मी निष्पाप आहे, पण मी बोलल्यावर माझे तोंडच मला अपराधी शाबीत करते.
20Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse.
21मी निष्पाप आहे, पण काय विचार करावा ते मला कळत नाही. मी माझ्याच आयुष्याचा धिक्कार करतो.
21I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
22मी स्वत:शीच म्हणतो: ‘सगळ्याच्याच बाबतीत हे घडते. पापी लोकांसारखेच निष्पाप लोकही मरतात. देवच सगळ्यांचे जीवन संपवतो.’
22“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
23काही तरी भयानक घडते आणि निष्पाप माणूस मरतो तेव्हा देव त्याला फक्त हसतो का?
23If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
24एखादा वाईट माणूस सत्ता बळकावतो तेव्हा देव पुढाऱ्यांना जे घडते आहे ते बघण्यापासून दूर ठेवतो का? हे जर खरे असेल तर देव म्हणजे आहे तरी कोण?
24The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
25“माझे दिवस एखाद्या धावपटू पेक्षाही वेगाने धावतात. माझे दिवस उडून जातात आणि त्यात सुखाचा लवलेशही नसतो.
25“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good,
26भूर्जपत्रापासून बनवलेली जहाज जशी वेगात जाते तसे माझे दिवस वेगात सरतात. गरुडाने आपल्या भक्ष्यावर झडप घालावी त्या प्रमाणे माझे दिवस अतिशय वेगात जातात.
26They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
27“मी जरी म्हणालो, ‘की मी तक्रार करणार नाही, माझे दु:ख विसरेन, मी चेहऱ्यावर हास्य आणेन.
27If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up;’
28तरी त्यामुळे काहीही बदल होणार नाही. दु:खाचे मला अजूनही भय वाटते.
28I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
29मी आधीच अपराधी ठरवला गेलो आहे. मग प्रयत्न तरी कशाला करायचे? मी म्हणतो, ‘विसरुन जा सारे!’
29I shall be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
30मी माझे अंग बफर्ाने धुतले आणि हात साबणाने स्वच्छ केले.
30If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
31तरीही देव मला घाणीच्या खड्ड्यात ढकलेल. नंतर माझे स्वत:चे कपडे देखील माझा तिरस्कार करतील.
31yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes shall abhor me.
32देव माझ्यासारखा माणूस नाही. म्हणूनच मी त्याला उत्तर देऊ शकत नाही. आम्ही न्यायालयात एकमेकांना भेटू शकणार नाही.
32For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
33दोन्ही बाजू ऐकून घेणारा कुणी मध्यस्थ असावा असे मला वाटते. मध्यस्थ आम्हा दोघांना सारख्याच न्यायाने तोलणारा असावा.
33There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
34देवाच्या शिक्षेची छडी दूर करणारा कुणी असावा असे मला वाटते. त्यामुळे देव मला भीती घालू शकणार नाही.
34Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
35नंतर देवाला न घाबरता मला जे काही म्हणायचे आहे ते मी म्हणू शकेन. परंतु आता मात्र मी तसे करु शकत नाही.
35then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.
