¹बंधूनो, तुम्हांस माहीत नाही काय? कारण नियमशास्त्र माहीत असलेल्या लोकांबरोबर मी बोलत आहे की, जोपर्यंत मनुष्य जिवंत आहे, तोपर्यंत नियमशास्त्र त्याच्यावर सता चालविते.

¹Or don’t you know, brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?

²कारण लग्न झालेली स्त्री जोपर्यंत तिचा पती जिवंत आहे तोपर्यंत ती नियमशास्त्राने त्याला बांधलेली असते, पण जर तिचा नवरा मेला तर ती पतीविषयीच्या नियमातून मोकळी होते.

²For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

³म्हणून पती जिवंत असताना ती दुसन्याची झाली, तर तिला व्यभिचारिणी असे म्हणतील. पण जर तिचा पती मरण पावला तर ती लग्नाच्या नियमातून मुक्त होते आणि जरी ती दुसऱ्या पुरुषाची पत्नी झाली तरी ती व्यभिचारिणी होत नाही.

³So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.

⁴माझ्या बंधूनो, अशाच प्रकारे नियमशास्त्राप्रमाणे तुम्हांलाही ख्रिस्ताच्या शरीराद्वारे ठार मारण्यात आले यासाठी की तुम्ही दुसऱ्या पुरुषाचे, जो मेलेल्यातून उठविला गेला होता त्याचे व्हावे, यासाठी की देवाच्या सेवेसाठी आमचा वापर व्हावा.

⁴Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit to God.

⁵कारण जेव्हा आम्ही आमच्या पापी मानवी स्वभावाप्रमाणे जगत होतो तेव्हा पापी वासना नियमशास्त्राच्या द्वारे मरणाला फळ देण्यासाठी आपल्या अवयवामध्ये कार्य करीत होत्या.

⁵For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.

⁶ज्या नियमशास्त्रामध्ये आम्ही कैदी झालो होतो त्यात आम्ही मेलेलो असल्याने आता आम्ही नियमशास्त्रापासून मुक्त आहोत तेव्हा आता आम्ही देव, आमचा प्रभु याची पवित्र शास्त्राच्या जुनेपणाप्रमाणे नव्हे तर आत्म्याच्या नवेपणाप्रमाणे सेवा करतो.

⁶But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

⁷तर मग आता आपण काय म्हणतो? नियमशास्त्र पाप आहे असे आम्ही म्हणावे काय? खात्रीने नाही! कारण नियमशास्त्रावाचून पाप काय आहे हे मला समजले नसते. खरोखर “लोभ धरु नको” असे नियमशास्त्राने सांगितले नसते तर लोभ म्हणजे काय हे मला माहीत झाले नसते.

⁷What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin, except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting, unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21

⁸परंतु पापाने संधी साधली आणि मजमध्ये सर्व प्रकारचा लोभ भरला. कारण नियमशास्त्राशिवाय पाप मृतवत आहे.

⁸But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.

⁹एके काळी मी नियाशास्त्राशिवाय जगत होतो, परंतु जेव्हा नियमशास्त्र आले तेव्हा पाप संजीवित झाले.

⁹I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

¹⁰आणि मी मरण पावलो, जी आज्ञा जीवन आणण्यासाठी योजण्यात आली होती तिचा परिणाम माझ्यासाठी मरण असा झाला.

¹⁰The commandment, which was for life, this I found to be for death;

¹¹कारण पापाने संधी साधली आणि त्या आज्ञेयोगे मला फसविले व तिच्याद्वारे ठार केले.

¹¹for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.

¹²म्हणून आम्ही असा निष्कर्ष काढतो की, नियमशास्त्र पवित्र आहे आणि आज्ञा पवित्र, नीतिमान आणि उत्तम आहेत.

¹²Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.

¹³याचा अर्थ असा आहे का, की जे उत्तम होते ते माझ्यासाठी मरण होते काय? खात्रीने नाही! परंतु पाप हे पाप म्हणून ओळखले जावे म्हणून त्याने जे उत्तम त्याद्वारे मजमध्ये मरण निर्माण केले. यासाठी की, पाप त्या आज्ञेमुळे कमालीचे पापिष्ठ व्हावे.

¹³Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.

¹⁴कारण आम्हांला माहीत आहे की, नियमशास्त्र आत्मिक आणि मी दैहिक मनुष्य आहे. मी गुलाम म्हणून पापांत शरणागत राहावे म्हणून विकलेला असा आहे.

¹⁴For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.

¹⁵मी काय करतो हे मला माहीत नाही कारण काय करायचे हे मला माहीत नाही. कारण ज्या गोष्टींचा मी द्वेष करतो, त्याच गोष्टी मी करतो.

¹⁵For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.

¹⁶आणि ज्या गोष्टी मला कराव्याशा वाटत नाही त्याच करतो तर नियमशास्त्र उत्तम आहे हे मान्य करतो.

¹⁶But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.

¹⁷परंतु खरे तर मी त्या करतो असे नव्हे तर माझ्या ठायी वसत असलेले पाप त्या गोष्टी करते.

¹⁷So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

¹⁸होय, मला माहीत आहे की, जे चांगले आहे ते माझ्यामध्ये वसत नाही.

¹⁸For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.

¹⁹चांगले करण्याची माझ्या ठायी इच्छा आहे, परंतु तसे मी करीत नाही, त्याऐवजी जे फार वाईट व जे मला करावेसे वाटत नाही तेच करतो.

¹⁹For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.

²⁰आणि ज्याअर्थी, ज्या गोष्टी मला कराव्याशा वाटत नाहीत त्या मी करतो, तेव्हा खरे तर त्या गोष्टी मी करतो असे नाही तर माइयाठयी असणारे पाप त्या गोष्टी करते.

²⁰But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

²¹तर माइयामध्ये मला हा नियम आढळतो की, माइयातील मनुष्याला चांगले करावेसे वाटते पण वाईट ही एकच गोष्ट माझ्याबरोबर आहे.

²¹I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

²²माझ्या आत असलेला मनुष्य देवाच्या नियमशास्त्रामुळे आनंद करतो.

²²For I delight in God’s law after the inward man,

²³परंतु माझ्या अवयवात मला निराळाच नियम कार्य करताना दिसतो. तो माझ्या मनावर अमल करणाऱ्या नियमाबरोबर लढतो, आणि पापाने मजवर लादलेल्या नियमाचा, जो माझ्या शरीरात कार्य करतो, त्याचा कैदी करतो.

²³but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁴मी अत्यंत दु:खी मनुष्य आहे! मरणाधीन असलेल्या शरीरापासून मला कोण सोडवील?

²⁴What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?

²⁵परंतु आमचा प्रभु येशू ख्रिस्त याच्याद्वारे देवाचे आभार मानतो. तर मग माझ्या मनाने मी देवाच्या नियमाचा गुलाम आहे. पण माझ्या पापी स्वभावाने मी पापाने माझ्यावर लादलेल्या नियमाचा गुलाम आहे.

²⁵I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, the sin’s law.
