¹हामी अब तिमीहरुलाई संसारको सृष्टि अघिबाट जे अस्तित्वमा थियो त्यस विषयमा भन्छौं हामीले यो सुन्यौं हामीले आफ्नै आँखाले देख्यौं, हामीले हेर्यौं यो, हामीले हाम्रा हातले स्पर्श ग्यौं। हामी तिमीहरुलाई त्यो वचनको बारेमा भन्दैछौ जसले जीवन प्रदान गर्छ।

¹That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

²त्यो जीवन हामीमा देखापरेको छ। हामीले त्यसलाई देख्यौं। हामी यस बारे तिमीहरुलाई प्रमाण दिन सक्छौं। अब हामी तिमीहरुलाई त्यो जीवनको विषयमा भनी रहेका छौं। यो त्यो जीवन हो जो चिरस्थायी छ। यो त्यो जीवन हो जो परमेश्वर पितासित थियो अनि हाम्रो अघि देखा पर्यो।

²(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

³अब हामी तिमीहरुलाई हामीले देखेका अनि सुनेको कुराहरु भन्छौं। किनभने हामी चाहन्छौ कि हामीसित तिमीहरुको सङ्गति रहोस्। सङ्गति जो हामी एक साथ सहभोग गर्छौ त्यो पिता परमेश्वर अनि उनको पुत्र येशू ख्रीष्टसित हुन्छ।

³That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

⁴हामी तिमीहरुलाई यी कुराहरु लेखिरहेकाछौं जसद्वारा तिमीहरु आनन्दले परिपूर्ण हुन सक्नेछौ।

⁴And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

⁵हामीले परमेश्वरबाट साँचो सन्देश सुन्यौं। अब हामी यो तिमीहरुलाई भनिरहेकाछौं कि परमेश्वर ज्योति हुनुहुन्छ। परमेश्वरमा अन्धकार हुँदैन।

⁵This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

⁶यसर्थ, यदि हामी परमेश्वरसित हाम्रो सङ्गति भएको दावी गर्छौं, तर हामी अन्धकारमा बस्छौं भने हामी झूटो हौ, हामी सत्यको अनुसरण गरिरहेका छैनौ।

⁶If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

⁷परमेश्वर ज्योतिमा रहनु हुन्छ। हामी पनि ज्योतिमा बस्नुपर्छ। यदि हामी ज्योतिमा बस्यौं भने हामी एक अर्कोमा सङ्गतिको सहभागी हुन्छौ। अनि जब हामी ज्योतिमा बस्छौं, येशूको रगतले हामीलाई सम्पूर्ण पापबाट धुन्छ।

⁷But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

⁸यदि हामी, हामीमा पाप छैन भन्छौ भने हामीले स्वयंलाई धोका दिइरहेछौ, अनि हामीमा सत्य छैन।

⁸If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

⁹तर यदि हामी हाम्रा पापहरु स्वीकार गर्छौ तब परमेश्वर जो विश्वासयोग्य अनि धर्मी हुनुहुन्छ हाम्रा पापहरु अनि हामीले गरेको जम्मै गल्तीहरु क्षमा गर्नुहुनेछ। परमेश्वरमा जे उचित छ त्यही गर्नुहुन्छ।

⁹If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

¹⁰यदि हामी भन्छौ, हामीले पाप गरेका छैनौं तब हामीले परमेश्वरलाई झूटो बनाउँछौ। यसैले देखाँउछ कि हाम्रो हृदयमा परमेश्वरको साँचो सन्देश राखेका छैनौं।

¹⁰If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
