1आफ्नी पत्नी हव्वासंग आदमको सहवास भयो अनि तिनी गर्भवती भएर एउटा छोरो कयिनलाई जन्माइन। तिनले भनिन, “परमप्रभुको सहायताद्वारा मैले एउटा मानिसलाई जन्म दिएँ।”
1And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain, and saith, `I have gotten a man by Jehovah;`
2तिनले फेरि अर्को छोरो हाबिललाई जन्माइन। हाबिल भेडा गोठालो भयो अनि कयिन खेतीवाला भयो।
2and she addeth to bear his brother, even Abel. And Abel is feeding a flock, and Cain hath been servant of the ground.
3केही समय पश्चात कयिनले भूमिको उब्जनीबाट केही खाने कुरो परमप्रभु कहाँ भेटीस्वरुप चढाउन ल्यायो।
3And it cometh to pass at the end of days that Cain bringeth from the fruit of the ground a present to Jehovah;
4हाबिलले पनि आफ्नो भेडाको बथानबाट पहिले जन्मेको भेडाको उत्तम भाग चढाउन ल्यायो। अनि हाबिलले ल्याएको भेटी परमप्रभुले स्वीकार गर्नुभयो।
4and Abel, he hath brought, he also, from the female firstlings of his flock, even from their fat ones; and Jehovah looketh unto Abel and unto his present,
5तर परमप्रभुले कयिन र उनले चढाएको भेटी स्वीकार गर्नु भएन। यसर्थ कयिन साहै रिसायो र दुःखी भयो।
5and unto Cain and unto his present He hath not looked; and it is very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance is fallen.

6And Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Why hast thou displeasure? and why hath thy countenance fallen?

7Is there not, if thou dost well, acceptance? and if thou dost not well, at the opening a sin-offering is crouching, and unto thee its desire, and thou rulest over it.`
8कयिनले उसको भाइलाई भने, “हामी खेतमा जाऔं!” अनि तिनीहरु खेतमा गएका थिए, कयिनले उसको भाइलाई आक्रमण गरी तिनलाई मार्यो।
8And Cain saith unto Abel his brother, [`Let us go into the field;`] and it cometh to pass in their being in the field, that Cain riseth up against Abel his brother, and slayeth him.
9तब परमप्रभुले कयिनलाई भन्नुभयो, “तेरो भाइ हाबिल कहाँ छ?” तब कयिनले उत्तर दियो, “म जान्दिन, मेरो भाइको हेरचाह गर्ने काम मेरो हो र?”
9And Jehovah saith unto Cain, `Where [is] Abel thy brother?` and he saith, `I have not known; my brother`s keeper — I?`
10त्यसपछि, परमप्रभुले कयिनलाई सोध्नु भयो, “तैंले उसलाई के गरिस्? कारण भूमिबाट उसको रगत मसंग कराउँदैछ।
10And He saith, `What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother`s blood is crying unto Me from the ground;
11तैंले तेरो भाइको हत्या गरिस् र तेरो हातबाट रगत पिउनलाई भूमिले मुख बाही रहेकोछ। यसकारण अब म त्यस भूमिमा नराम्रो कुराहरु हुने बनाइदिनेछु।
11and now, cursed [art] thou from the ground, which hath opened her mouth to receive the blood of thy brother from thy hand;
12जब तैंले त्यो भूमिमा केही रोप्छस तेरो निम्ति त्यस भूमिले केही फसल दिने छैन। पृथ्वीमा तेरो एउटा घर पनि हुने छैन, तँ एक ठाउँदेखि अर्को ठाउँ घुमिहिंडने छस्।”
12when thou tillest the ground, it doth not add to give its strength to thee — a wanderer, even a trembling one, thou art in the earth.`
13तब कयिनले परमप्रभुलाई भने, “यो दण्ड चाँहि मैले सहन सक्नेभन्दा धेरै भयो।
13And Cain saith unto Jehovah, `Greater is my punishment than to be borne;
14हेर्नुहोस्, आज तपाईंले मलाई जमीनबाट निकालिदिनु भयो अनि म तपाईंको नजरबाट बाहिर रहनु पर्यो, यस पृथ्वीमा घरबेगरको घुमिहिंड्ने हुने भएँ र जसले पनि मलाई भेट्छ मलाई मार्नेछन्।”
14lo, Thou hast driven me to-day from off the face of the ground, and from Thy face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it hath been — every one finding me doth slay me.`
15तब परमप्रभुले उसलाई भन्नुभयो, “यस्तो हुन पाउने छैन! यदि कसैले तलाईं मार्छ भने त्यसलाई म कठोर दण्ड दिनेछु।” तब परमप्रभुले कयिनमाथि यस्तो एउटा चिन्ह लगाउनु भयो जसले गर्दा त्यो देखेपछि कसैले कयिनलाई मार्ने छैन।”
15And Jehovah saith to him, `Therefore — of any slayer of Cain sevenfold it is required;` and Jehovah setteth to Cain a token that none finding him doth slay him.
16तब कयिन परमप्रभुको सामुन्नेबाट टाढा गएर अदनको पूर्वपट्टि नोद देशमा बस्न थाल्यो।
16And Cain goeth out from before Jehovah, and dwelleth in the land, moving about east of Eden;
17कयिनको उसकी पत्नीसित सहवास भयो र तिनी गर्भवती भईन र हनोक नाउँ भएको एउटा छोरा जन्माइन्। अनि कयिनले एउटा शहर बनायो र त्यो शाहरको नाउँ हनोक राख्यो।
17and Cain knoweth his wife, and she conceiveth, and beareth Enoch; and he is building a city, and he calleth the name of the city, according to the name of his son — Enoch.
18हनोकको ईराद नाउँको छोरा जन्म्यो। ईरादको एउटा छोरो भयो र उसको नाउँ महूयाएल राखियो। महूयाएलको पनि मतूशाएल नाउँको छोरो भयो अनि मतूशाएलको पनि लेमेक नाउँको छोरो भयो।
18And born to Enoch is Irad; and Irad hath begotten Mehujael; and Mehujael hath begotten Methusael; and Methusael hath begotten Lamech.
19लेमेकले दुइवटी स्त्रीहरुसित विवाह गर्यो, तिनीहरुको नाउँ आदा र सिल्ला थियो।
19And Lamech taketh to himself two wives, the name of the one Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.
20आदाले याबाल नाउँको छोरोलाई जन्म दिइन्। याबाल पालमा बस्ने र गाई-वस्तुहरु पाल्नेहरुको पुर्खा थिए।
20And Adah beareth Jabal, he hath been father of those inhabiting tents and purchased possessions;
21याबालको भाइको नाउँ यूबाल थियो अनि तिनी नै वीणा र बाँसुरी बजाउनेहरु सबैका पुर्खा थिए।
21and the name of his brother [is] Jubal, he hath been father of every one handling harp and organ.
22सिल्लाले तूबल कयिनलाई जन्माइन् जो सबै प्रकारका पीतल र फलामको हतियारहरु बनाउँथ्यो। तूबल कयिनका बहिनीको नाउँ नामा थियो।
22And Zillah she also bare Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron; and a sister of Tubal-Cain [is] Naamah.
23लेमेकले आफ्ना पत्नीहरुलाई भने, “हे आदा र सिल्ला! लेमेकका पत्नीहरु हो, म के भन्छु, सुन। मलाई चोट पुर्याउने मानिसलाई मैले मारें, त्यस जवान केटोले मलाई हिर्कायो मैले उसलाई मारें।
23And Lamech saith to his wives: — `Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, give ear [to] my saying: For a man I have slain for my wound, Even a young man for my hurt;
24यदि कयिनलाई मारेकोमा सात गुणा बढी दण्ड भयो भने, लेमेकलाई मारेकोमा सतहत्तर गुणा बढी दण्ड हुनेछ।”
24For sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy and sevenfold.`
25आदमको फेरि आफ्नी पत्नीसित सहवास भयो र तिनले फेरि एउटा छोरो जन्माइन् जसको नाउँ सेत राखियो। तिनले भनिन्, “कयिनले हाबिललाई मारेकोले उसको सट्टामा परमेश्वरले मलाई अर्को बालक दिनु भयो।”
25And Adam again knoweth his wife, and she beareth a son, and calleth his name Seth, `for God hath appointed for me another seed instead of Abel:` for Cain had slain him.
26सेतको पनि एउटा छोरो भयो जसको नाउँ एनोश थियो। यही समयदेखि मानिसहरुले परमप्रभुलाई विश्वास गर्न थाले।
26And to Seth, to him also a son hath been born, and he calleth his name Enos; then a beginning was made of preaching in the name of Jehovah.
