1एक्ले बस्ने मानिसले उसका आफ्नै स्वार्थी इच्छाहरू पूरा गर्न खोज्छ। उसले विवेकपूर्ण सल्लाहलाई गिल्ला गर्छ।
1He that separateth himself seeketh [his] pleasure, he is vehement against all sound wisdom.
2मूर्ख मानिसले अर्काको अर्ति सुन्न रूचाउँदैन। त्यस्तो मानिसले उसको आफ्नै मात्र विचार व्यक्त गर्न चहान्छ।
2A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
3जब दुष्टता आउँछ, तब घृणा पनि आउँछ, अनि अपमानसित बदनाम आउँछ।
3When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4मानिसका बचनहरू गहिरो पानी झैं हुन्, ज्ञानको स्रोत एउटा बेग्ले बग्ने झरना झैं हो।
4The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.
5एकजना दोषी मानिसको पक्ष लिएर निर्दोष मानिसलाई अन्याय गर्नु अत्यन्तै अनुचित हो।
5It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.
6मूर्खहरूको ओंठहरूले बहस ल्याउँछ उसको मुखले थप्पड खोज्छ।
6A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
7मूर्खको मुखले उस माथि विपत्ति ल्याउँछ, उसको ओठहरू एउटा पासो जस्तै हो उसको आफ्नै जीवनलाई समात्छ।
7A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8मानिसहरू सधैं बदनाम गराउने झूटा कुराहरूले बहकाउने मानसिको मुखबाट सुन्न मन पराउँछन, अनि त्यस्ता कुराहरू मीठो भोजन झैं पेट भित्र जान्छन्।
8The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9यो निश्चय हो कि जसले आफ्नो काम अल्छी गरि गर्छ, त्यो सर्वनाश गर्नेको भाइ जत्ति कै हो।
9He also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.
10परमप्रभुको नाम एउटा दृढ किल्ला झैं हो, धर्मीहरू यसभित्र कुद्छन् र सुरक्षित रहन्छन्।
10The name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11एकजना धनी मानिसको सम्पत्ति उसको निम्ति बलियो किल्ला झैं हो, उसले यसलाई अग्लो पर्खाल जस्तो सम्झिन्छ।
11The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.
12मानिसको पतन हुनु अघि उसको मनमा अहंकार आउँछ तर नम्रता आदरको अघि आउँछ।
12Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour [goeth] humility.
13जसले कुरा सुन्न अघि उत्तर दिन्छ ऊ झमेला गराउँने मूर्ख हो।
13He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
14जब मानिस बिमारी हुन्छ उसको आत्माले उसलाई बीमार सहने शक्ति दिन्छ, तर चोट लगेको आत्मालाई कसले सहन सक्छ?
14The spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
15एकजना विवेकशीलले मानिसले सधैं केही चीज सिक्न चाहँन्छ। एउटा ज्ञानी मानिसले ज्ञान लिन ध्यान दिएर सुन्छ।
15The heart of an intelligent [man] getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16उपहारले एकजना मानिसको निम्ति ढोका उर्घाछ, अनि त्यो मानिस महापुरूषहरूको सामुन्ने पुग्न सक्छ।
16A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17आफ्नो मुद्दाको बारेमा बोल्ने पहिलो मानिस, अर्को मानिसबाट केरकार नहुञ्जेलसम्म सही जस्तो लाग्छ।
17He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18गोला हालेर झगडा मोटिन्छ अनि शक्तिशाली प्रति-द्वन्द्विहरूलाई छुट्टाइन्छ।
18The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19यदि साथीलाई अपमान गरेर उसलाई मनाउनु एउटा बलियो पर्खालले घेरिएको शहरलाई कब्जा गर्नु भन्दा गाह्रो पर्छ।
19A brother offended is [harder to be won] than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.
20आफ्नो मुखको फलले मानिसले पेट भर्छ, जे उसको ओठले उत्पन्न गर्छ त्यसमा ऊ सन्तुष्ट हुन्छ।
20A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.
21आफैंले बोलेको शब्दहरूले आफैंलाई जीवन अथवा मृत्यु बोलाइ दिन्छ। यसर्थ बोल्नु मन पराउने मानिसले आफूले बोलेको शब्दहरूले के ल्याँउछ स्वीकार्नु तत्पर रहनु पर्छ।
21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22जसले पत्नी भेटूछ उसले उत्तम कुरो भेटूयो। परमप्रभुबाट उसले अनुग्रह प्राप्त गरेको छ।
22Whoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.
23गरीब मानिसहरूलाई दयाको भिक्षा चाहिन्छ तर धनी मानिसहरूले खस्रो जवाफ दिन्छन्।
23He that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.
24धेरै मित्रहरू भएको मानिसले आफैंलाई हानी गर्छ, तर कुनै भित्र यस्तो पनि हुन्छ जो आफ्नै दाज्युभाई भन्दा पनि विश्वासीहुन्छ।
24A man of [many] friends will come to ruin but there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
