¹ग्रीष्म ऋतुमा हिउँ र्बषनु राम्रो होइन, बाली काटूने समयमा पानी र्बषनु ठीक होइन अनि त्यसरी नै मूर्खलाई सम्मान गर्नु अनुचित हो।

¹Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.

²तिमीले कसैको हानी नगरी उसले तिमीलाई सराप्छ भने उसको त्यो श्राप तिमी माथिबाट कुनै चंचल चरा उडेर गए जस्तै हो।

²Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.

³जसरी घोडा चाबुकले काबुमा आउँछ, खच्चर लगामले आउँछ, त्यसरीनै एकजना मूर्ख डण्डाले काबूमा आउँछ।

³A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools!

⁴मूर्खलाई त्यसको मूर्खता अनुसारको उत्तर नदेऊ, नत्रभने तिमी पनि मूर्ख हुनेछौ।

⁴Don’t answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.

⁵एउटा मूर्खलाई उसको मूर्खतापूर्ण उत्तर देऊ तर पनि उसले आफैंलाई ज्ञानी सम्झिन्छ।

⁵Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

⁶मूर्खलाई दूत बनाई पठाउनु, आफ्नो घुँडामा बन्चरोले हान्नु अथवा जानी-जानी विपद ल्याउनु जस्तो हुन्छ।

⁶One who sends a message by the hand of a fool is cutting off feet and drinking violence.

⁷मूर्खको मुखमा एउटा हितोपदेश हुनु लङ्गडो मानिसका झुण्डिएका लुला गोडा जस्तै हो।

⁷Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

⁸मूर्खलाई सम्मान गर्नु त्यति नै खराब हो जति एउटा घुयेंत्रोमा ढुङ्गा बाँध्नु हो।

⁸As one who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.

⁹मूर्खले केही हितोपदेश कुरा गर्न चाहानु, मातेर चुर भएको मानिसले हातमा बिजेको काँडा निकाल्नु खोज्नु जस्तै हो।

⁹Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

¹⁰कुनै मूर्खलाई अथवा नचिनेको मानिसलाई काम अह्राउनु विपद मोल्नु हो। तिमीलाई थाहा हुँदैन कता नोक्सान हुन्छ।

¹⁰As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a fool or he who hires those who pass by.

¹¹कुकुरले केही खाएर बिमार भयो भने त्यसले उल्टी गर्छ औ केही समय पछि त्यही उल्टी खान्छ। मूर्ख मानिस पनि त्यस्तै हो औ त्यसले पनि एउटै काम घरी-घरी गरिरहन्छ।

¹¹As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.

¹²यदि कोही मानिस ज्ञानी होइन तर आफैंलाई ज्ञानी मान्छ भने त्यो जत्तिको मूर्ख अर्को हुँदैन। ज्

¹²Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

¹³अल्छेले भन्छ, “सडकमा सिंह बसेकोछ, यसकारण म घरबाट निस्कन सक्तिनँ।”

¹³The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!”

¹⁴अल्छे मानिस कही जाँदैन, ढोका आफ्नो कब्जामा अल्झेर यता उति भइरहेको झैं, अल्छे आफ्नो ओछ्यानमा यता उति पल्टि रहन्छ।

¹⁴As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.

¹⁵अल्छे मानिसलाई यति अल्छी लाग्छ कि उसलाई आफ्नो थालबाट गाँस उठाउनु पनि गाह्रो पर्छ।

¹⁵The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.

¹⁶एउटा अल्छेले आफैंलाई बुद्धिमान सम्झन्छ। उसले आफैंलाई विवेकपूर्ण जवाफ दिने ती सात जाना बुद्धिमान मानिसहरू भन्दा पनि ज्ञानी सम्झन्छ।

¹⁶The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.

¹⁷दुईजना मानिसहरूको विवादमा पक्ष लिनु त्यति नै विपद जनक हो जति गल्लीमा कुकुरको कान तानेर हिडनु।

¹⁷Like one who grabs a dog’s ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.

²⁰जसरी दाउराविना आगो बल्दैन त्यसरी नै बदनाम गराउनेलाई हटाइन्छ भने झगडा आफैं अन्त हुनेछ।

²⁰For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.

²¹जस्तो कोइलाले अंगारलाई अनि दाउराले ज्वालालाई चम्काउँछ त्यस्तै झगडालु मानिसले झगडा चम्काउँछ।

²¹As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.

²²बद्नाम गराउने शब्दहरू त्यतिकै स्वादिष्ट हुन्छन् जतिको मानिसहरूको पेटमा जाने भोजन हुन्छ।

²²The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, they go down into the innermost parts.

²³माटोको भाँडोमा चाँदीको जलप लगाएझैं दुष्ट जाली मानिसको ओंठमा चिप्लो कुरा हुन्छ।

²³Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.

²⁴द्वेषपूर्ण मानिसले उसका मिठा कुराहरूले आफ्नो दोषलाई ढाक्छ तर उसले दोषलाई आफ्नो हृदयमा पालेको हुन्छ।

²⁴A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart.

²⁵उसको मिठो कुरामा विश्वास नगर, किनभने उस भित्र सातओटा घिनलाग्दो विचारहरू जागिरहेको हुन्छन्।

²⁵When his speech is charming, don’t believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart.

²⁶उसले उसको द्वेष छलहरूद्वारा लुकाउन सकेतापर्नी उसको दुष्टता सबैको सामुन्ने प्रकट हुन्छ।

²⁶His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

²⁷अर्कालाई जाक्नु खाडल खन्ने मानिस आफैं त्यही खाडलमा पर्छ। अरूलाई ढुङ्ग पल्टाउने मानिस आफैं ढुङ्गले चेपिएर मर्छ।

²⁷Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.

²⁸जुन मानिसले झूटो बोल्छ, त्यसले आफूले हानि पुर्याएको मनिसहरूलाई नै घिनाउँछ, अनि एउटा मानिस जसले चाप्लुसी गर्छ उसले आफैंलाई हानी गर्छ।

²⁸A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin.
