¹Og han sa til mig: Menneskesønn! Et det du her finner for dig! Et denne bokrull, og gå avsted og tal til Israels hus!

¹And he said unto me, Son of man, eat what thou findest; eat this roll, and go, speak unto the house of Israel.

²Da lot jeg op min munn, og han gav mig denne rull å ete

²So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.

³og sa til mig: Menneskesønn! Mett din buk og fyll dine innvoller med denne rull som jeg gir dig! Og jeg åt, og den var i min munn søt som honning.

³And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll which I give thee. And I ate, and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.

⁴Og han sa til mig: Menneskesønn! Gå til Israels hus og tal til dem med mine ord!

⁴And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them.

⁵For ikke til et folk med vanskelig sprog og tungt mæle sendes du, men til Israels hus;

⁵For thou art not sent to a people of strange language, and of difficult speech, [but] to the house of Israel;

⁶ikke til mange folk med vanskelig sprog og tungt mæle, hvis ord du ikke forstår; sannelig, om jeg sendte dig til dem, skulde de høre på dig.

⁶not to many peoples of strange language and of difficult speech, whose words thou canst not understand: had I sent thee to them, would they not hearken unto thee?

⁷Men Israels hus skal ikke ville høre på dig, for det vil ikke høre på mig; for hele Israels hus har hårde panner og forherdede hjerter.

⁷But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee, for none of them will hearken unto me. For all the house of Israel are hard of forehead and stiff of heart.

⁸Se, jeg gjør ditt åsyn hårdt mot deres åsyn og din panne hård mot deres panne.

⁸Behold, I have made thy face hard against their faces, and thy forehead hard against their foreheads.

⁹Lik en diamant, hårdere enn sten, gjør jeg din panne; du skal ikke frykte for dem og ikke forferdes for deres åsyn; for en gjenstridig ætt er de.

⁹As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead. Fear them not, neither be dismayed at them, for they are a rebellious house.

¹⁰Og han sa til mig: Menneskesønn! Alle de ord som jeg taler til dig, skal du ta inn i ditt hjerte og høre med dine ører.

¹⁰And he said unto me, Son of man, all my words which I shall speak unto thee, receive in thy heart, and hear with thine ears;

¹¹Og gå til de bortførte, til ditt folks barn, og tal til dem og si: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud - enten de hører eller lar det være!

¹¹and go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, -- whether they will hear or whether they will forbear.

¹²Da løftet et vær mig op, og jeg hørte bak mig lyden av et stort bulder: Lovet være Herrens herlighet fra det sted hvor han er,

¹²And the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the sound of a great rushing, [saying,] Blessed be the glory of Jehovah from his place!

¹³og lyden av livsvesenenes vinger, som rørte ved hverandre, og lyden av hjulene ved siden av dem og lyden av et stort bulder.

¹³-- and the sound of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the sound of the wheels beside them, and the sound of a great rushing.

¹⁴Og et vær løftet mig op og tok mig, og jeg fór avsted, gram og harmfull i min ånd, og Herrens hånd var sterk over mig.

¹⁴And the Spirit lifted me up, and took me away; and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of Jehovah was strong upon me.

¹⁵Og jeg kom til de bortførte i Tel-Abib, de som bodde ved elven Kebar, og hvor de ellers bodde, og jeg satt der i syv dager iblandt dem og stirret frem for mig.

¹⁵And I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river Chebar, and I sat where they sat; and I sat there astonied among them seven days.

¹⁶Men da syv dager var gått, da kom Herrens ord til mig, og det lød således:

¹⁶And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹⁷Menneskesønn! Jeg har satt dig til vekter for Israels hus, og når du hører et ord av min munn, skal du advare dem fra mig.

¹⁷Son of man, I have appointed thee a watchman unto the house of Israel, and thou shalt hear the word from my mouth, and give them warning from me.

¹⁸Når jeg sier til den ugudelige: Du skal visselig dø, og du ikke advarer ham og ikke taler og advarer den ugudelige for hans ugudelige ferd for å holde ham i live, da skal han, den ugudelige, dø for sin misgjernings skyld, men hans blod vil jeg kreve av din hånd.

¹⁸When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt certainly die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, that he may live: the same wicked [man] shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thy hand.

¹⁹Men når du har advart den ugudelige, og han ikke vender om fra sin ugudelighet og fra sin ugudelige ferd, da skal han dø for sin misgjernings skyld, men du har reddet din sjel.

¹⁹But if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

²⁰Og når en rettferdig vender sig bort fra sin rettferdighet og gjør urett, så legger jeg en anstøtssten i hans vei - han skal dø. Når du ikke har advart ham, skal han dø i sin synd, og de rettferdige gjerninger som han har gjort, skal ikke kommes i hu, men hans blod vil jeg kreve av din hånd.

²⁰And when a righteous [man] doth turn from his righteousness, and do what is wrong, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die; because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous acts which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thy hand.

²¹Men når du har advart den rettferdige om at han, den rettferdige, ikke skal synde, og han da ikke synder, da skal han visselig leve, fordi han lot sig advare, og du har reddet din sjel.

²¹And if thou warn the righteous [man], that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall certainly live, for he hath taken warning; and thou hast delivered thy soul.

²²Og Herrens hånd kom over mig der, og han sa til mig: Stå op og gå ut i dalen! Der vil jeg tale med dig.

²²And the hand of Jehovah was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the valley, and there I will talk with thee.

²³Da stod jeg op og gikk ut i dalen, og se, der stod Herrens herlighet, lik den herlighet jeg hadde sett ved elven Kebar; og jeg falt på mitt ansikt.

²³And I arose, and went forth into the valley, and behold, the glory of Jehovah stood there, like the glory which I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell on my face.

²⁴Men ånden kom i mig og fikk mig til å stå på mine føtter; og han talte med mig og sa til mig: Gå og steng dig inne i ditt hus!

²⁴And the Spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet; and he spoke with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thy house.

²⁵Og du menneskesønn! Se, de skal legge rep om dig og binde dig med dem, så du ikke kommer ut iblandt dem.

²⁵And thou, son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee therewith, and thou shalt not go out among them.

²⁶Og din tunge vil jeg la henge fast ved din gane, så du blir målløs og ikke blir i stand til å refse dem; for en gjenstridig ætt er de.

²⁶And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover; for they are a rebellious house.

²⁷Men når jeg taler med dig, vil jeg åpne din munn, og du skal si til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud. Den som vil høre, han høre, og den som vil la det være, han la det være! For en gjenstridig ætt er de.

²⁷And when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.
