¹På den tid sendte Merodak Baladan, Baladans sønn, kongen i Babel, brev og gaver til Esekias, da han hørte at han hadde vært syk og var blitt frisk igjen.

¹At that time Merodach-Baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent a letter and a present to Hezekiah; for he had heard that he had been sick and had recovered.

²Esekias gledet sig over dem* og lot dem få se sitt skattkammer, sølvet og gullet og krydderiene og den kostbare olje og hele sitt våbenhus og alt det som fantes i hans skattkammere; det var ikke den ting Esekias ikke lot dem få se i sitt hus og i hele sitt rike. / {* Babels konges sendebud.}

²And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver and the gold, and the spices and the fine oil, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found amongst his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah did not shew them.

³Da kom profeten Esaias til kong Esekias og sa til ham: Hvad sa disse menn, og hvorfra kommer de til dig? Esekias svarte: De er kommet til mig fra et land langt borte, fra Babel.

³Then came the prophet Isaiah to king Hezekiah, and said to him, What said these men? and from whence came they to thee? And Hezekiah said, They came from a far country to me, from Babylon.

⁴Og han sa: Hvad fikk de se i ditt hus? Esekias svarte: Alt det som er i mitt hus, har de fått se; det var ikke den ting jeg ikke lot dem få se i mine skattkammer.

⁴And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah said, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewn them.

⁵Da sa Esaias til Esekias: Hør Herrens, hærskarenes Guds ord:

⁵And Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah of hosts:

⁶Se, de dager kommer da alt det som er i ditt hus, og alle de skatter dine fedre har samlet like til denne dag, skal føres bort til Babel; det skal ikke bli nogen ting tilbake, sier Herren.

⁶Behold, days come when all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Jehovah.

⁷Og blandt dine sønner som skal utgå av dig, som du skal avle, skal det være nogen som blir tatt til hoffmenn i kongen av Babels palass.

⁷And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

⁸Da sa Esekias til Esaias: Det Herrens ord som du har talt, er godt. Så sa han: Det skal jo være fred og trygghet i mine dager.

⁸And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. And he said, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.
