¹Dette er det ord som kom til Jeremias fra Herren i Judas konge Sedekias' tiende år, det er Nebukadnesars attende år.

¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah: that year was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

²Dengang holdt Babels konges hær Jerusalem kringsatt, og profeten Jeremias var innestengt i vaktgården i Judas konges hus;

²And the king of Babylon's army was then besieging Jerusalem; and the prophet Jeremiah was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah's house.

³der hadde Judas konge Sedekias stengt ham inne med de ord: Hvorfor profeterer du og sier: Så sier Herren: Se, jeg gir denne by i Babels konges hånd, og han skal innta den,

³For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Why dost thou prophesy and say, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

⁴og Judas konge Sedekias skal ikke undkomme av kaldeernes hånd, men han skal overgis i Babels konges hånd, og han skal tale med ham munn til munn og se ham øie til øie,

⁴and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans; for he shall certainly be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

⁵og han skal føre Sedekias til Babel, og der skal han være til jeg tar mig av ham, sier Herren; når I strider mot kaldeerne, skal I ikke ha lykken med eder.

⁵and he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith Jehovah: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?

⁶Og Jeremias sa: Herrens ord er kommet til mig, og det lød så:

⁶And Jeremiah said, The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

⁷Se, Hanamel, sønn av din farbror Sallum, kommer til dig og sier: Kjøp min mark i Anatot! For du har innløsningsrett, så du kan kjøpe den.

⁷Behold, Hanameel, the son of Shallum thine uncle, shall come unto thee, saying, Buy for thyself my field which is in Anathoth; for thine is the right of redemption, to buy [it].

⁸Og Hanamel, min farbrors sønn, kom til mig i vaktgården efter Herrens ord og sa: Kjøp min mark i Anatot, i Benjamins land! For du har odelsretten, og du har plikten til å løse den inn. Kjøp den! Da forstod jeg at det var Herrens ord.

⁸And Hanameel, mine uncle's son, came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Jehovah, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine: buy [it] for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of Jehovah.

⁹Og jeg kjøpte marken av Hanamel, min farbrors sønn, i Anatot, og jeg veide ut sølvet til ham, sytten sekel sølv.

⁹And I bought of Hanameel, mine uncle's son, the field which is in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, seventeen shekels of silver.

¹⁰Og jeg skrev det i et brev og forseglet det og tok vidner, og jeg veide sølvet i vektskåler.

¹⁰And I subscribed the writing, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed the money in the balances.

¹¹Så tok jeg kjøpebrevet, både det forseglede med avtalen og vilkårene, og det åpne,

¹¹And I took the writing of the purchase, that which was sealed [according to] the law and the statutes, and that which was open;

¹²og jeg overgav kjøpebrevet til Baruk, sønn av Nerija, sønn av Mahseja, i nærvær av min frende Hanamel og de vidner som hadde skrevet sine navn i kjøpebrevet, og alle de jøder som satt i vaktgården.

¹²and I gave the writing of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Nerijah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's [son], and in the presence of the witnesses that had subscribed the writing of purchase, before all the Jews that were sitting in the court of the guard.

¹³Og i deres nærvær gav jeg Baruk dette pålegg:

¹³And I charged Baruch in their presence, saying,

¹⁴Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Ta disse brev, dette forseglede kjøpebrev og dette åpne brev, og legg dem i et lerkar, så de kan holde sig lang tid!

¹⁴Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these writings, this writing of the purchase, both that which is sealed and this writing which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may remain many days.

¹⁵For så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Ennu en gang skal det kjøpes hus og marker og vingårder i dette land.

¹⁵For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be purchased in this land.

¹⁶Og da jeg hadde overgitt kjøpebrevet til Baruk, Nerijas sønn, bad jeg til Herren og sa:

¹⁶And after I had given the writing of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Nerijah, I prayed unto Jehovah saying,

¹⁷Akk, Herre, Herre! Se, du er den som har gjort himmelen og jorden ved din store kraft og ved din utrakte arm; ingen ting er for vanskelig for dig,

¹⁷Alas, Lord Jehovah! Behold, thou hast made the heavens and the earth by thy great power and stretched-out arm; there is nothing too hard for thee:

¹⁸du som gjør miskunnhet imot tusen ledd og gjengjelder fedrenes misgjerning på deres barn efter dem, du store, du veldige Gud, hvis navn er Herren, hærskarenes Gud,

¹⁸who shewest mercy unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them, thou, the great, the mighty ùGod, -- Jehovah of hosts is his name;

¹⁹du som er stor i råd og mektig i gjerning, du hvis øine er oplatt over alle menneskebarns veier for å gi enhver efter hans ferd og efter hans gjerningers frukt,

¹⁹great in counsel and mighty in work, whose eyes are open upon all the ways of the children of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

²⁰du som gjorde tegn og under i Egyptens land og helt til denne dag, både med Israel og med andre mennesker, og gjorde dig et navn, således som det sees på denne dag,

²⁰who hast displayed signs and wonders unto this day, in the land of Egypt and in Israel and among [other] men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day.

²¹og førte ditt folk Israel ut av Egyptens land ved tegn og under og med sterk hånd og utrakt arm og med stor forferdelse

²¹And thou broughtest forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt by signs, and by wonders, and by a powerful hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terror;

²²og gav dem dette land som du hadde svoret deres fedre at du vilde gi dem, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

²²and didst give them this land, which thou hadst sworn unto their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

²³Og de kom og tok det i eie, men de hørte ikke på din røst og levde ikke efter dine lover; alt det du hadde pålagt dem å gjøre, gjorde de ikke. Så har du da latt all denne ulykke komme over dem.

²³And they came in and possessed it: but they hearkened not unto thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do; so that thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them.

²⁴Se, fiendenes voller er nådd helt frem til byen, så de kan innta den, og ved sverd, hunger og pest er byen gitt i hendene på kaldeerne, som strider mot den, og det som du har talt, er skjedd; du ser det selv.

²⁴Behold the mounds, they are come unto the city for taking it; and the city is given over into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, by the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and behold, thou seest [it].

²⁵Og allikevel, enda byen er gitt i kaldeernes hånd, har du, Herre, Herre, sagt til mig: Kjøp marken for penger og ta vidner på det!

²⁵And thou, Lord Jehovah, thou hast said unto me, Buy for thyself the field for money, and take witnesses; -- and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

²⁶Da kom Herrens ord til Jeremias, og det lød så:

²⁶And the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, saying,

²⁷Se, jeg er Herren, alt kjøds Gud; skulde nogen ting være for vanskelig for mig?

²⁷Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for me?

²⁸Derfor sier Herren så: Se, jeg gir denne by i kaldeernes hånd og i Babels konge Nebukadnesars hånd, og han skal innta den.

²⁸Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.

²⁹Og kaldeerne, som strider mot denne by, skal komme og tende ild på den og opbrenne den og de hus på hvis tak det har vært brent røkelse for Ba'al og utøst drikkoffer for andre guder for å vekke min harme.

²⁹And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come in and set fire to this city, and shall burn it, and the houses upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink-offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

³⁰For helt fra sin ungdom av har Israels barn og Judas barn bare gjort det som er ondt i mine øine; Israels barn har ikke gjort annet enn å vekke min harme ved sine henders verk, sier Herren.

³⁰For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have been doing only evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith Jehovah.

³¹For til vrede og harme har denne by vært mig like fra den dag da de bygget den, og til denne dag, så jeg må ta den bort fra mitt åsyn

³¹For this city hath been to me [a provocation] of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

³²for all den ondskap som Israels barn og Judas barn har gjort for å vekke min harme, de, deres konger, deres høvdinger, deres prester og deres profeter, Judas menn og Jerusalems innbyggere.

³²because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

³³De vendte ryggen og ikke ansiktet til mig; og jeg lærte dem tidlig og sent, men de hørte ikke på mig og tok ikke imot tukt.

³³And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face; and though I taught them, rising early and teaching, they hearkened not to receive instruction.

³⁴Men de satte sine vederstyggelige ting i det hus som er kalt med mitt navn, og gjorde det urent.

³⁴And they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it;

³⁵Og de bygget offerhaugene for Ba'al i Hinnoms sønns dal for å la sine sønner og døtre gå gjennem ilden for Molok, enda jeg ikke hadde pålagt dem det, og det ikke var opkommet i mitt hjerte at de skulde gjøre denne vederstyggelighet; og således fikk de Juda til å synde.

³⁵and they have built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause to pass through [the fire] their sons and their daughters unto Molech: which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

³⁶Men derfor* sier Herren, Israels Gud, nu så om denne by om hvilken I sier: Den er gitt i Babels konges hånd ved sverd og hunger og pest: / {* JER 32, 27.}

³⁶And now therefore Jehovah, the God of Israel, saith thus concerning this city, whereof ye say, It hath been given over into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence:

³⁷Se, jeg samler dem fra alle de land som jeg drev dem bort til i min vrede og harme og min store fortørnelse, og jeg vil føre dem tilbake til dette sted og la dem bo trygt.

³⁷Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries whither I have driven them, in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely.

³⁸Og de skal være mitt folk, og jeg vil være deres Gud.

³⁸And they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

³⁹Og jeg vil gi dem ett hjerte og lære dem en vei til å frykte mig alle dager, så det må gå dem vel, dem og deres barn efter dem.

³⁹And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me all [their] days, for the good of them, and of their children after them.

⁴⁰Og jeg vil oprette en evig pakt med dem at jeg ikke vil dra mig tilbake fra dem, men gjøre vel imot dem, og frykt for mig vil jeg legge i deres hjerte, så de ikke skal gå bort fra mig.

⁴⁰And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not draw back from them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their heart, that they may not turn aside from me.

⁴¹Og jeg vil glede mig over dem og gjøre vel imot dem, og jeg vil plante dem i dette land i trofasthet, av hele mitt hjerte og av hele min sjel.

⁴¹And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will assuredly plant them in this land with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

⁴²For så sier Herren: Likesom jeg har latt all denne store ulykke komme over dette folk, således vil jeg også la alt det gode komme over dem som jeg har lovt dem.

⁴²For thus saith Jehovah: Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have spoken concerning them.

⁴³Og det skal kjøpes marker i dette land om hvilket I sier: Det er en ørken, uten mennesker og dyr, det er gitt i kaldeernes hånd.

⁴³And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

⁴⁴De skal kjøpe marker for penger og skrive kjøpebrev og forsegle dem og ta vidner, i Benjamins land og i landet omkring Jerusalem og i Judas byer, både byene i fjellbygdene og byene i lavlandet og byene i sydlandet; for jeg vil gjøre ende på deres fangenskap, sier Herren.

⁴⁴[Men] shall buy fields for money, and subscribe the writings, and seal them, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, and in the environs of Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the hill-country, and in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the south: for I will turn their captivity, saith Jehovah.
