¹Dette er det ord som kom til Jeremias fra Herren:

¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

²Still dig i porten til Herrens hus og rop ut der dette ord og si: Hør Herrens ord, hele Juda, I som går inn igjennem disse porter for å tilbede Herren!

²Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah.

³Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Bedre eders veier og eders gjerninger! Så vil jeg la eder bo på dette sted.

³Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

⁴Sett ikke eders lit til løgnaktige ord, når folk sier: Her er Herrens tempel, Herrens tempel, Herrens tempel!

⁴Confide ye not in words of falsehood, saying, Jehovah's temple, Jehovah's temple, Jehovah's temple is this.

⁵Men dersom I bedrer eders veier og eders gjerninger, dersom I skifter rett mellem mann og mann,

⁵But if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if ye really do justice between a man and his neighbour,

⁶ikke undertrykker den fremmede, den farløse og enken og ikke utøser uskyldig blod på dette sted og ikke følger andre guder til ulykke for eder selv,

⁶[if] ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed no innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt;

⁷da vil jeg la eder bo på dette sted, i det land jeg gav eders fedre, fra evighet og til evighet.

⁷then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers from of old even for ever.

⁸Se, I setter eders lit til løgnaktige ord - til ingen nytte.

⁸Behold, ye confide in words of falsehood that cannot profit.

⁹Hvorledes? I stjeler, slår ihjel, driver hor, sverger falsk og brenner røkelse for Ba'al og følger andre guder, som I ikke kjenner,

⁹What? steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not ...

¹⁰og så kommer I og står frem for mitt åsyn i dette hus som er kalt med mitt navn, og sier: Vi er frelst - og så tenker I at I fremdeles kan gjøre alle disse vederstyggelige ting?

¹⁰then ye come and stand before me, in this house which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered, -- in order to do all these abominations!

¹¹Er da dette hus som er kalt med mitt navn, blitt en røverhule i eders øine? Se, også jeg har sett det, sier Herren.

¹¹Is this house, which is called by my name, a den of robbers in your eyes? Even I, behold, I have seen it, saith Jehovah.

¹²Gå til min bolig som var i Silo, der jeg i førstningen lot mitt navn bo, og se hvad jeg har gjort med det for mitt folk Israels ondskaps skyld!

¹²For go now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it, for the wickedness of my people Israel.

¹³Og nu, fordi I gjør alle disse gjerninger, sier Herren, og jeg talte til eder tidlig og sent, men I hørte ikke, og jeg kalte på eder, men I svarte ikke,

¹³And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spoke unto you, rising up early and speaking, and ye heard not, and I called you, and ye answered not;

¹⁴så vil jeg gjøre med det hus som er kalt med mitt navn, og som I setter eders lit til, og med det sted jeg gav eder og eders fedre, således som jeg har gjort med Silo,

¹⁴I will even do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh;

¹⁵og jeg vil kaste eder bort fra mitt åsyn, likesom jeg har bortkastet alle eders brødre, all Efra'ims ætt.

¹⁵and I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, all the seed of Ephraim.

¹⁶Og du, du skal ikke bede for dette folk og ikke frembære klage og bønn for det og ikke trenge inn på mig; for jeg hører dig ikke.

¹⁶And thou, pray not for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, and make not intercession to me; for I will not hear thee.

¹⁷Ser du ikke hvad de gjør Judas byer og på Jerusalems gater?

¹⁷Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹⁸Barna sanker ved, og fedrene tender op ild, og kvinnene elter deig for å lage kaker for himmelens dronning, og de utøser drikkoffer for andre guder, for å volde mig sorg.

¹⁸The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

¹⁹Mon det er mig de volder sorg, sier Herren, mon ikke sig selv, så deres ansikter skal rødme av skam?

¹⁹Is it I whom they provoke to anger? saith Jehovah; is it not themselves, to the shame of their own face?

²⁰Derfor sier Herren, Israels Gud, så: Se, min vrede og min harme blir utøst over dette sted, over menneskene og dyrene, over markens trær og jordens frukt, og den skal brenne og ikke slukkes.

²⁰Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place; upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

²¹Så sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud, Israels Gud: Legg bare eders brennoffere til eders slaktoffere og et kjøtt!

²¹Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh.

²²For jeg har ikke talt med eders fedre og ikke gitt dem befaling på den dag jeg førte dem ut av Egyptens land, om brennoffer og slaktoffer;

²²For I spoke not unto your fathers, nor commanded them concerning burnt-offerings and sacrifices, in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt;

²³men dette var det bud jeg gav dem: Hør på min røst! Så vil jeg være eders Gud, og I skal være mitt folk, og I skal vandre på alle de veier jeg byder eder, så det må gå eder vel.

²³but I commanded them this thing, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.

²⁴Men de hørte ikke og bøide ikke sitt øre til mig, de fulgte sine egne tanker, sitt onde, hårde hjerte, og de vendte ryggen, ikke ansiktet til mig.

²⁴But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.

²⁵Like fra den dag eders fedre drog ut av Egyptens land, helt til denne dag sendte jeg til eder alle mine tjenere, profetene, daglig, tidlig og sent.

²⁵Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt, unto this day, have I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them;

²⁶Men de hørte ikke på mig og bøide ikke sitt øre til mig; de gjorde sin nakke hård, de bar sig verre at enn sine fedre.

²⁶but they have not hearkened unto me, nor inclined their ear; and they have hardened their neck: they have done worse than their fathers.

²⁷Og du skal tale til dem alle disse ord, men de skal ikke høre på dig, og du skal rope til dem, men de skal ikke svare dig.

²⁷And thou shalt speak all these words unto them, but they will not hearken unto thee; and thou shalt call unto them, but they will not answer thee.

²⁸Og du skal si til dem: Dette er det folk som ikke har hørt på Herrens, sin Guds røst og ikke tatt imot tukt; redeligheten er gått til grunne og er utryddet av deres munn.

²⁸And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation which hath not hearkened unto the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received correction; fidelity is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

²⁹Klipp ditt hår av* og kast det bort og stem i en klagesang på de bare hauger! For Herren har forkastet og støtt fra sig den ætt som han er vred på. / {* Jerusalem.}

²⁹Cut off thy hair, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

³⁰For Judas barn har gjort det som er ondt i mine øine, sier Herren; de har satt sine vederstyggeligheter i det hus som er kalt med mitt navn, og gjort det urent.

³⁰For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith Jehovah; they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

³¹Og de har bygget Tofet-haugene i Hinnoms sønns dal for å opbrenne sine sønner og sine døtre med ild, noget som jeg ikke har pålagt dem, og som ikke er opkommet i mitt hjerte.

³¹And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither did it come up into my mind.

³²Se, derfor skal dager komme, sier Herren, da en ikke mere skal si Tofet eller Hinnoms sønns dal, men Drapsdalen; og de skal begrave folk i Tofet, fordi det ellers ikke er plass.

³²Therefore, behold, days are coming, saith Jehovah, when it shall no more be said, Topheth, and Valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter; for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place.

³³Og dette folks døde kropper skal bli til føde for himmelens fugler og for jordens dyr, uten at nogen skremmer dem bort.

³³And the carcases of this people shall be food for the fowl of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall scare [them] away.

³⁴Og jeg lar fryds røst og gledes røst, brudgoms røst og bruds røst bli borte i Judas byer og Jerusalems gater, for til en ørken skal landet bli.

³⁴And I will cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of joy, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.
