¹Så var det i kong Darius' fjerde år, da kom Herrens ord til Sakarias på den fjerde dag i den niende måned, i måneden kislev.

¹And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah on the fourth [day] of the ninth month, [even] in Chislev,

²For Betel hadde sendt Sareser og Regem-Melek og hans menn for å bønnfalle Herren

²when Bethel had sent Sherezer and Regem-melech, and his men, to supplicate Jehovah,

³og spørre prestene i Herrens, hærskarenes Guds hus og profetene: Skal vi gråte og faste i den femte måned, som vi nu har gjort i så mange år?

³[and] to speak unto the priests that were in the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done now so many years?

⁴Da kom Herrens, hærskarenes Guds ord til mig, og det lød så:

⁴And the word of Jehovah of hosts came unto me, saying,

⁵Si til alt folket i landet og til prestene: Når I har fastet og klaget i den femte* og i den syvende** måned, og det nu i sytti år***, er det da for min skyld I har fastet? / {* da blev templet ødelagt; 2KG 25, 8 fg.} / {** da blev Gedalja myrdet; 2KG 25, 25. JER 41, 2.} / {*** SKR 1, 12. JER 25, 11.}

⁵Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh [month], even those seventy years, did ye really fast unto me, [even] unto me?

⁶Og når I eter og drikker, er det da ikke I selv som eter, og I selv som drikker?

⁶And when ye ate, and when ye drank, was it not you that were eating and drinking?

⁷Minnes I ikke de ord Herren lot utrope ved de forrige profeter, da Jerusalem lå der i ro og fred med sine byer rundt om, og likeså sydlandet og lavlandet?

⁷Are not these the words that Jehovah cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and at peace, and her cities round about her, when the south and the lowland were inhabited?

⁸Og Herrens ord kom til Sakarias, og det lød så:

⁸And the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah, saying,

⁹Så sa Herren, hærskarenes Gud: Døm rettferdige dommer og vis miskunnhet og barmhjertighet mot hverandre,

⁹Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew loving-kindness and mercies one to another,

¹⁰og undertrykk ikke enker og farløse, fremmede og arminger, og tenk ikke ut ondt mot hverandre i eders hjerte!

¹⁰and oppress not the widow and the fatherless, the stranger and the afflicted; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

¹¹Men de vilde ikke akte på det, men satte i sin gjenstridighet skulderen imot, og sine ører gjorde de døve, så de ikke hørte,

¹¹But they refused to hearken, and turned a rebellious shoulder, and made their ears heavy, that they should not hear.

¹²og sitt hjerte gjorde de hårdt som en diamant, så de ikke hørte på loven og de ord Herren, hærskarenes Gud, sendte ved sin Ånd gjennem de forrige profeter; derfor kom det en stor vrede fra Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

¹²And they made their heart [as] an adamant, that they should not hear the law, and the words that Jehovah of hosts sent by his Spirit by the hand of the former prophets: therefore was there great wrath from Jehovah of hosts.

¹³Og likesom han ropte, og de ikke hørte, således, sa Herren, hærskarenes Gud, skal de rope, og jeg vil ikke høre,

¹³And it came to pass, like as he called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, saith Jehovah of hosts;

¹⁴men jeg vil sprede dem som i en stormvind blandt alle hedningefolkene, som de ikke kjenner, og landet skal ligge øde efter dem, så ingen drar frem eller tilbake der. Og således gjorde de det herlige land til en ørken.

¹⁴and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not, and the land was desolate after them, so that no one passed through nor returned; and they laid the pleasant land desolate.
