¹Og seks dager derefter tok Jesus med sig Peter, Jakob og hans bror Johannes og førte dem avsides op på et høit fjell.

¹After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.

²Og han blev forklaret for deres øine, og hans åsyn skinte som solen, og hans klær blev hvite som lyset.

²He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.

³Og se, Moses og Elias viste sig for dem og talte med ham.

³Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.

⁴Da tok Peter til orde og sa til Jesus: Herre! det er godt at vi er her; vil du, så skal jeg gjøre tre boliger her, en til dig og en til Moses og en til Elias.

⁴Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

⁵Mens han ennu talte, se, da kom det en lysende sky og overskygget dem, og se, det kom en røst ut av skyen, som sa: Dette er min Sønn, den elskede, i hvem jeg har velbehag; hør ham!

⁵While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

⁶Og da disiplene hørte det, falt de ned på sitt ansikt og blev meget forferdet.

⁶When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

⁷Og Jesus gikk bort og rørte ved dem og sa: Stå op, og frykt ikke!

⁷Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid.”

⁸Men da de så op, så de ingen uten Jesus alene.

⁸Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.

⁹Og da de gikk ned av fjellet, bød Jesus dem: I skal ikke fortelle nogen om dette syn før Menneskesønnen er opstanden fra de døde.

⁹As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

¹⁰Og disiplene spurte ham og sa: Hvorfor sier da de skriftlærde at Elias først må komme?

¹⁰His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”

¹¹Han svarte og sa: Elias kommer visstnok og skal sette alt i rette skikk;

¹¹Jesus answered them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,

¹²men jeg sier eder at Elias er alt kommet, og de kjente ham ikke, men gjorde med ham hvad de vilde. Det samme skal også Menneskesønnen lide av dem.

¹² but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”

¹³Da forstod disiplene at det var om døperen Johannes han talte til dem.

¹³Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.

¹⁴Og da de kom til folket, kom en mann til ham og falt på kne for ham og sa:

¹⁴When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, saying,

¹⁵Herre! miskunn dig over min sønn! Han er månesyk og Iider storlig; ofte faller han i ilden og ofte i vannet.

¹⁵“Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.

¹⁶Og jeg førte ham til dine disipler; men de kunde ikke helbrede ham.

¹⁶So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

¹⁷Da svarte Jesus og sa: Du vantro og vrange slekt! hvor lenge skal jeg være hos eder? hvor lenge skal jeg tåle eder? Før ham hit til mig!

¹⁷Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”

¹⁸Og Jesus truet ham, og den onde ånd fór ut av ham, og gutten blev helbredet fra samme stund.

¹⁸Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.

¹⁹Da gikk disiplene til Jesus i enrum og sa: Hvorfor kunde ikke vi drive den ut?

¹⁹Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”

²⁰Jesus sa til dem: For eders vantros skyld; for sannelig sier jeg eder: Har I tro som et sennepskorn, da kan I si til dette fjell: Flytt dig derfra og dit! og det skal flytte sig, og intet skal være umulig for eder.

²⁰He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

²¹Men dette slag farer ikke ut uten ved bønn og faste.

²¹ But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting.”

²²Men mens de ferdedes i Galilea, sa Jesus til dem: Menneskesønnen skal overgis i menneskers hender,

²²While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,

²³og de skal slå ham ihjel, og på den tredje dag skal han opstå. Og de blev meget bedrøvet.

²³ and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” They were exceedingly sorry.

²⁴Men da de kom til Kapernaum, gikk de som krevde inn tempelskatten, til Peter og sa: Betaler ikke eders mester tempelskatt?

²⁴When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins A didrachma is a Greek silver coin worth 2 drachmas, about as much as 2 Roman denarii, or about 2 days’ wages. It was commonly used to pay the half-shekel temple tax, because 2 drachmas were worth one half shekel of silver. came to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”

²⁵Han sa: Jo. Og da han kom inn i huset, kom Jesus ham i forkjøpet og sa til ham: Hvad tykkes dig, Simon? av hvem tar kongene på jorden toll eller skatt? av sine barn eller av de fremmede?

²⁵He said, “Yes.” When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”

²⁶Han sa: Av de fremmede. Da sa Jesus til ham: Så er jo barna fri.

²⁶Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.

²⁷Men forat vi ikke skal gi dem anstøt, så gå ned til sjøen, kast ut en krok, og ta den første fisk som kommer op; og når du åpner munnen på den, skal du finne en stater; ta den og gi dem for mig og dig!

²⁷ But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. A stater is a silver coin equivalent to four Attic or two Alexandrian drachmas, or a Jewish shekel: just exactly enough to cover the half-shekel temple tax for two people. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”
